Satoshi Kano is teasing a SEGA vs Capcom collaboration

Former SEGA developer Satoshi Okano who worked on a number of Sonic titles has recently been teasing that a SEGA vs Capcom collaboration is in the works. The developer has taken to X to tease it a couple of times now. Franchises, which could well be a part of it, include Sonic the Hedgehog, Samba de Amigo, Street Fighter, and the new Kunitsu-Gami series. If it is indeed legitimate, then it could be huge.

  1. Not what I meant by “I’m tired of all these crossovers between Mario and Sonic and not Mega Man”, but a step in the right direction. I would be okay with it as long as the playable characters include Mega Man (preferably classic, but I guess either will do), Ryu, Sonic, and Akira Yuki. They might as well throw in Dante, Shantae, Joker, and Bayonetta while they’re at it. And maybe more Mega Man reps (whether they’re from a single series, or one per series) and the most important Sonic characters (and that annoying pink stalker).

Though if we’re being realistic, they’re probably going to just give Street fighter 6 a Sonic costume and call it a day.

  2. Kinda funny that something like this comes some months after the release of that “Sega vs. Capcom” fan project.

This is most likely a Street Fighter 6 collab (that may or may not be shown in the “Capcom Highlights” day two presentation) or something like that, would love to be wrong though.

    1. Maybe it was inspired by the fan game? Capcom is in need of a crossover since they pretty much gave up on Marvel VS. Capcom.

  3. I’ve been waiting for a SEGA vs Capcom game since middle school when I found out about the “vs Capcom” series. Hopefully this is real because I wanna see Sonic vs Mega Man with controls like in MvC

      1. I was mainly talking about a crossover game, not necessarily with the same controls as MvC games. Sorry if I was not clear.

        1. Oop, just saw this comment (I blame the mobile app sometimes not showing me stuff).

Yeah I’ve played PXZ, and it was a fun crossover game. To me it felt more like a beat ‘em up game than a standard fighting game, but there’s nothing wrong with the game itself. I mean hell, technically Smash Bros. 4 and Ultimate have “SEGA vs Capcom” to some degree, lol.

Also, you’re good, man. Within the vein of clarity, I should mention that I recently played Street Fighter 4 on the 3DS, and that got me itching for some fighting games. When I saw the “SEGA vs Capcom” in the headline it reminded me of those teenage memories and desires for a fighting game crossover with SEGA and Capcom akin to Marvel vs Capcom 3 or even Tatsunoko vs Capcom on the Wii

    1. I’m glad someone else called you out for not just doing your own research. You’re a dumbass and deserve that menial job you clearly wanted since middle school

        1. Never understood why the ‘men’ today bother. They seem to forget they can just look away or log out. These are the same ‘men’ who pay more attention to politics in video games instead of just playing them.

      1. Thanks for making me feel important by responding to my comments on a Nintendo news site. Your support truly lifts my spirits 🥰

  4. I have no idea what that last game is. Sonic, Samba de Amigo, Street Fighter are more well known, but that isn’t enough for a VS. game. You need the best of both companies, I’d pick like 10-12 representatives from Sega and 10-12 from Capcom. I’d also try to make sure each character is from a different game. You need Sonic and Street Fighter, those are the hot titles from each company right now. Samba de Amigo? Ok maybe if you can fight using maracas. lol But what the heck is that other title from Capcom? I’d pick Mega Man if I was in charge since Mega Man is pretty much Capcom’s mascot. I know it’s supposed to be Captain Commando, but Mega Man is more well known. Plus Mega Man has had recent games with Mega Man 11 and all of those collections. Street Fighter? Ryu. That’s a no brainer. So that’s 4 IPs so far, 2 from each company. That leaves about 10 each. I’d like to suggest a list for both:
    SEGA
    1. Segata Sanshiro
    2. NiGHTS from NiGHTS into Dreams
    3. Beat from Jet Set Radio
    4. B.D. Joe from Crazy Taxi
    5. The HORNET from Daytona USA
    6. any of the zombies from The House of The Dead series
    7. any protagonist from the Panzer Dragoon series
    8. Ulala from Space Channel 5
    9. Sakura from Sakura Wars
    10. Vyse from Skies of Arcadia

    Now for the CAPCOM reps:
    1. Falcon from Power Stone
    2. Morrigan from Darkstalkers
    3. Amingo from MVC2
    4. Strider Hiryu from Strider 1 and 2
    5. Captain Commando
    6. Bionic Commando
    7. Dante from Devil May Cry
    8. Arthur from Ghosts n Goblins
    9. Jin from Cyberbots
    10. Hayato from Star Gladiator

Those are the other ones I would pick plus Sonic, Amigo, Ryu from Street Fighter, and Mega Man. I think that gives us a nice variety for both sides. I chose a lot of Dreamcast era reps because that was the most creative era of video games in my honest opinion. There’s some Saturn era stuff too. Segata Sanshiro is one character that never made it into a fighting game. It was gonna be him or Ryo from Shenmue so I picked Segata simply because he was never playable before. It was tough to pick Sakura also because I was also considering Alis from Phantasy Star. As cool as Alis is, Sakura is a freaking samurai piloting a mech and to me that fits better in a fighting game. The HORNET is basically the same car from Daytona USA and Fighters Megamix and would control better than that game with better combos. Capcom’s list was easier because everyone on it has been in some sort of fighting game.

    1. That playstation all stars list is more recognizable than this. Forgettable characters and consoles are the reasons this has not and should ever exist. Using ‘us’ as some weird video game collective is somehow more lame than sports fans doing it.
