Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition coming to Nintendo Switch in March

Fight for survival on a mysterious alien world and explore the planet with your own giant mech in the Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition game for the Nintendo Switch family of systems. Originally available on the Wii U system in 2015, the action RPG comes to Nintendo Switch with enhanced visuals, added story elements and more when it launches March 20, 2025.

The year is 2054. Humans have fled Earth amid a destructive intergalactic war. As one of the survivors and a member of the New Los Angeles (NLA) colony, it’s your mission to help build a new home on the sprawling, hostile planet of Mira. Explore this seamless open world across five otherworldly continents teeming with unknown creatures – some of which are epic in scale – and fight for the future of humanity.

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition features your character at the center of the action in a standalone sci-fi story. Customize your avatar’s looks and class to your liking and choose from a wide variety of options in a comprehensive battle system that’s as deep as you want it to be. Once you have proven yourself to the BLADE organization, you can also unlock a powerful Skell: Your giant, customizable mech that’s proficient in exploration and combat to assist you in your adventures across Mira.

While you go about the reconstruction effort, you’ll get to know the people of NLA, help them with their problems, and build affinity with your party members to unlock quests that contain rare gear and other rewards to earn. Plus, join an online squad* and take on multiplayer-specific missions, including extra-challenging Global Nemesis Battles! You can even recruit the avatars of other players to your team in the main story.

There is even more to discover in this definitive version of the game. Just who is the mysterious hooded figure on the beach? You’ll have to stay tuned to learn more…

  1. I loved how ambitious the original is. It’s a massive beefy game I never completed. The faces still look odd… I wonder how much of the mission structure they improved on?

  2. I am sure someone at Nintendo is stalking me, i have bern thinking a lot about this game and now out of nowhere they announced it.

      1. The problem is that if this was a switch 2 exclusives then they would’ve really done it justice. Mira is an expansive world, arguably the best open world map out there.

Releasing it o on current isn’t going to miraculously improve a late-life Wii U game.

Having it on Switch 2 unlocks XCX’ potential by a landslide. But here we are, celebrating dismal “graphics” bumps.

        1. Rereleasing Wii U games isn’t about bumping up the graphics but getting missed gems out to a larger platform. If it sells well on Switch, it bodes well for a direct sequel.

      2. It’s the opposite: everything indicates that the successor will not be backwards compatible with the switch, because of the eshop

        1. lol what? There’s been no indication that it’s not backwards compatible from what I’ve seen and it’s been the exact opposite of what you’ve said. You might have to fill us in here on what indications there are that it’s not backwards compatible.

    1. Same. I might hold off on playing on release though- I don’t think it’ll for sure happen, but I hope that they’ll have Switch 2 upgrades on some Switch games akin to what Sony does for PS4 -> PS5 games

  3. Happy to see all the love for XBX but for those who played it on WiiU, it had a lot of problems. Hopefully, this version addresses those annoying gathering mission issues.

  4. My husband having finished it 100% on Wii U, he still screamed at the announcement^^
And it’s also a thumbing of the nose at some who think that the games coming to Switch are over…
Do you feel the release of the successor in a year’s time?

  5. Unfortunately not. It’s confirmed to be based on the North American version worldwide. I’ll just stick with emulating the Wii U version (with the uncensor patch) on my Deck.

  6. Remakes for Xenogears and the 3 Xenosaga games would be epic! It’s a shame those games are stuck on the PS1 and PS2. Nevertheless, this announcement is amazing! I might have to replay this beast of a game.

    1. Tetsuya Takahashi (Monolith Soft executive director) was interviewed by the site USGamer. The quote was the following: “When it comes to roadblocks that stand in the way of Xenoblade Chronicles X on the Switch, Takahashi’s answer is simple.

“Money,” he laughs. “It’s a massive game. Re-creating it would be really difficult.””

So, basically, they got the money. The Xenoblade series is selling well and they got it.

  7. Will it be the uncensored or the censored version? I wish they would give us the power to decide wich one to buy.

    1. The only bit of the censorship that makes sense and that I don’t disapprove of is removing the skimpy costume for the 15-year-old girl- that one I get. The NA version of XCX removing the bust slider for female avatars felt targeted, however.
