The former head of Rare and now head of Xbox Game Studios, Craig Duncan, has said that he is very excited about the company’s multiplatform approach and believes it will benefit all players. He points towards when he was heading up Rare and the company had successfully launched Sea of Thieves. He said being able to remove the barriers against others playing the accomplished game felt truly great. He concluded by saying “I just think it’s good for gamers, it’s good to have our games reach more places.”
“I think it’s good for gamers, it’s good for our studios, our studios make amazing games and we want to give those games the chance to reach the broadest audience possible, so even I think back to when I had my studio head Sea of Thieves hat on, having Sea of Thieves reach multiple platforms, being able to remove barriers, so those players could play together… I just think it’s good for gamers, it’s good to have our games reach more places.”

It all depends on which players we are talking about… I’m not sure that those who have invested in a console for its exclusives are happy that it will then be found everywhere else…
In fact, Sony and Microsoft are very likely to disappear from the console market and be content to become a simple PC and/or Nintendo publisher…
As for Nintendo, I can’t see them going their own way at the moment; their sales are very profitable but it amuses me to read on some forums that Xbox and PlayStation players hope that Nintendo will end up porting Mario or Zelda to their consoles… (especially Xbox gamers)
Sony aren’t going anywhere. With an ecosystem of +120mil active users, you wouldn’t abandon that revenue.
XBox, they have the bigger war-chest but they are dwindling.
