The first volume of Konami’s Metal Gear Solid Collection has been available to play on multiple platforms, including the Nintendo Switch, for almost a couple of years now. Following its launch, Konami had gradually released updates that polished the collection and its individual games, as well as fixing various bugs that had been discovered since the collection’s release.
In fact, so much has been done to the collection that, compared to how it was at launch, it is like comparing apples and oranges now. So, Digital Foundry decided to re-visit the collection and see how it is today. They were more positive about the current state of the collection, saying that it is “in a much better place with patch 2.0 installed, but the fundamental shortcomings are still frustrating”. They say that a modded PC version of the collection is the best way to play it, and the PlayStation 5 is the best console version of the collection.
Not that Bomberman R was unfinished, but that received a lot of updates over the years, and drastically changed over time. 720p30fps to 1080p60 on Switch or something. Not that I consider anything of what Konami is doing worth my time. They treated their employees horrible, and the fact they stopped Kojima from entering the Game Awards back in the day was mind blowing! Some of the things they did were way more concerning than being greedy.
How do you screw up games that are already finished?
That’s a good question, how did they mess up games that are already finished? Maybe they wanted to rush the release, maybe they thought it was good enough or maybe they wanted to know why kids love cinnamon toast crunch?
The ports of MGS2 & MGS3 weren’t handled by Konami themselves, Rocket Studio Inc Games handled them – which was absolutely stupid since they’ve only made like 8 games in the past 15 years lol. Konami’s been playing cleanup ever since that mistake
