Pocketpair considering Palworld for Nintendo Switch 2

Palworld has been an incredible success for Pocketpair and many would say deservedly so with its frequent content updates which continue to introduce new features. The Nintendo Switch 2 is on the near horizon and many will be wondering whether they will be able to play the charming survival game on there. IGN caught up with the company’s communications director John ‘Bucky’ Buckley at GDC who said that while Pocketpair hasn’t seen the specs, if the console is beefy enough then he says it will certainly be well worth their time considering as “we would like to get it on more handhelds if possible.”

“We haven’t seen those specs yet,” he said. “Like everyone else, we’re waiting. I’m walking around GDC hoping someone will tell me them, but everyone I’ve spoken to says they haven’t even seen them.

“If it’s beefy enough, it’s 100% worth considering. We did a lot of optimization for Steam Deck, which we were really happy with. Still work to do, but we’re really happy with how it turned out. So we would like to get it on more handhelds if possible.”

  1. Eh, there’s other clones on the Nintendo platform, so whatever. Plus it’ll bring those freaks that think this is better to our console, and that’s always better.

  2. If Palworld releases on the Switch 2 hopefully it’s already up to date with the most recent content updates, like the Feybreak update and the crossplay update … New islands, pals, increased level cap, new items to craft etc.

  3. Fyi Pocketpair said the same thing before Palworld released on PSN … That they was “considering it”

  4. Releasing Palworld on Switch 2 might legitimately be an outcome of a settlement between Nintendo and Pocketpair. I think the lack of presence of the game on Nintendo hardware is one reason Nintendo took a particularly dim view of it.

  5. I think it would be really funny if Nintendo lost the lawsuit against PalWorld and then were petty by banning the game from their storefront. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think that would be the right thing to do, but I do think it would be incredibly humorous.

    1. Those are funniest things to happen in gaming. Remember the whole game sharing on Xbox fiasco and how Sony responded? 😂 I almost fell of my chair when I saw that video 🤣

  6. I don’t know, Nintendo has shown clear disdain for PalWorld and have an active lawsuit against them, so allowing them aboard Switch 2 afterwards- regardless of the suit’s outcome- would be like punching them in the face and then offering to drive them to the hospital to get the broken nose fixed.

Let me iterate one point- I don’t agree with the lawsuit, but I do think Pocketpair should make changes to PalWorld to make the Pokemon imitation less on-the-nose, particularly the Pal Sphere which I think is the biggest offender (literally a Poke Ball in all but name).
