One thing that the Nintendo Switch didn’t have that its predecessors did was background music that could be heard while you were digitally shopping on it. The Wii and Wii U both had it, but the Switch didn’t. Now that the upcoming Switch 2 is more powerful and is meant to improve on what Nintendo had done with the Switch 1, there has been some hope from fans that Nintendo may bring back some eShop background music.
Unfortunately, Nintendo has confirmed that this won’t happen. Nintendo Switch 2 producer Kouichi Kawamoto has told Polygon that “unlike back then, the eShop now has lots of videos that are showcasing the games. We didn’t want to intrude on that, so we don’t have music there”. Kawamoto also revealed that the focus was on performance, saying that “I wanted to make sure that it was a smooth experience. That the scrolling of the list doesn’t stall, that it’s very smooth, pages load fast”.
Excuse me, there won’t be music because there will be trailers on game pages? Couldn’t you just… mute the music? Maybe a quick fade-out while the video loads? The 3DS and Wii U eShops had music and never once did it intrude on anything.
So, another sterile shopping experience. How does Nintendo keep making the Switch 2 LESS appealing with every new bit of info?

Yes, because it’s totally unreasonable to feel like this is a two-steps-forward-one-step-backward situation. Especially since the 3DS eShop ALSO had fast times along with the music. A stronger machine like this shouldn’t have a problem having both features.

My guess is this is the general theme of the Switch family. Very minimalistic and not much to do in the menu. They’d rather put the creative stuff in a smartphone app and it will be paywalled by NSO, which is a bit disappointing. I wonder if the next generation that isn’t a Switch will follow this minimalistic pattern.
At LEAST give us themes and folders.

If people want the music so badly, just play it on a separate device close by as you’re shopping the eShop.
The more we go further with this console’s info the less I’m interested, maybe Sofiona was right we probably needed something new inside the system, cause this is literally just a more powerful switch with extremely overpriced games, I’m gonna wait at least a year, gonna start thinking about buying it once they release the new smash.
I’m thinking similarly. The only reason I have to be an early adopter is if I want to have a portable- and legit- version of F-Zero GX (which I really, really do). I give myself a 40% chance I try to Day 1 Switch 2

Very expensive, at least 569€, thanks to nordic exclusive supplier Bergsala which takes a big cut
-Very expensive games and accessories. Are you kidding me, 1st party controllers like 100€, at least 90. 80€ the base price for “big games” when physical?
-No gold points or vouchers?
-No hall effect sticks or something else to alleviate potential stick drift problems?
-No eShop music
-Can I share my account and it’s games with other people like with Switch?
-Still not possible to get refunded if the game sucks and you’re stuck with “digital junk”.
This might increase sales too because you could try out freely before making final decision.
All of these decisions, Nintendo’s greediness and price gouging is pushing me and many others away, leaves a bad taste in mouth. Good luck selling multiple Switch 2’s for normal families too.
Nintendo is a business, yes, but they are trying to squeeze out every penny possible their (sometimes too faithful) customers are willing to pay. Business can be fair, but still lucrative.
If they are successful with these prices, you can be sure they raise them even more and some of these lemmings come up with more excuses for Daddy Nintendo. If enough people say enough is enough, they will change some things.
I have bought every Nintendo home system since the GameCube but Switch 2 might be the first one I don’t buy, at least not close to launch since those things I mentioned, I’ll have to see how things really are, how they progress.
Steam Deck 2 is looking more and more enticing. I’m not the only loyal customer on the fence. By the time Steam Deck 2 releases, I think my questions have been answered and then make the decision.
