Nintendo has designed Switch 2 cartridges to be spit out

Years ago, during the peak of the Switch 1’s life, Nintendo was dealing with an odd phenomenon. There was, for some reason, an interest in licking and even tasting Nintendo Switch cartridges. This is, unsurprisingly, a topic that was bound to come up with the launch of the Switch 2 being less than 2 months away. Sure enough, GameSpot has asked Nintendo about the matter.

According to Nintendo’s Takuhiro Dohta, “we don’t want anybody to be at risk of any unwanted consumption. We have indeed made it so that if it enters your mouth, you’ll spit it out”. Dohta also recommends that people do not lick them. Meanwhile, Nintendo’s Kouichi Kawamoto said that “when the Nintendo Switch was being developed, I did lick it once, but never again. I can’t believe that other people are trying that”.

    1. I didn’t even have to lick the card to get a taste- that stuff just rubs off on your fingers. I inserted a card once then picked up some food and ate it while waiting for the game to load, and… Well, let’s say that was the worst-tasting Wendy’s nugget I’ve ever had.

Context for the contextless: since the cartrigdes were small, Nintendo was worried that children would swallowing them accidentally. In order to prevent that, they embedded each cartridge with a very bitter substance (forgot which exactly) so, if they put it in their mouths, they’d immediately spit it out. Some idiots around the internet, that don’t have grass to touch, decided it would be funny to record themselves licking them just to make a meme.

Everyone has licked their switch carts, if you’re suggesting that you haven’t, you’re lying.
