We reported earlier that Nintendo is taking accessory manufacturer Genki to court due to the aforementioned company infringing its trademark, as well as unfair competition and false advertising. What’s interesting is that in the court papers it is revealed that Nintendo started working on the new platform shortly after they released the original Nintendo Switch system with “formal hardware development beginning around 2019.”
Nintendo reveals it began working on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2019

It’s normal…the R&D department doesn’t sit idle for years ^^
Nintendo must already be thinking about a future OLED or Lite version, or even the next generation
I mentioned the system development year bagin days ago on this site.
And what do you want, a medal?
It’s normal. PlayStation consoles were also starts to developed years ago before its release. First ideas, impressions, problems, correct them. Switch 2 also went through this path.
We basically knew this already. There’s a reason there was talk of a Switch Pro with 4K and DLSS. I’ve always believed that the Switch Pro was basically split into the Switch OLED with the bigger OLED screen, ethernet connection etc. and the Switch 2 with 4K and DLSS.
Right, they didn’t shut down the hardware division and instead they were starting to look into future revisions (OLED, lite, Switch 2). It’s interesting though because the microsd ex tech wasn’t even commercially available for consumers until last year. So they could design for it, but they couldn’t really release a system with it until last fall at the earliest and even then, supplies are too limited.
This isn’t news… Nintendo revealed this in their interview with the hardware team that they put out on April 2nd. Must be a slow news day…
Switch 2 could’ve been a switch pro if that was the case tbh …… It would have also caught Nintendo up with the PS4 and one.
That’s really interesting — it’s impressive that Nintendo had the foresight to start developing the next-generation console back in 2019. It shows how much long-term planning goes into keeping their gaming legacy alive. While reading about innovation like this, I was also exploring https://hamiltoncourtrecords.org resources that focus on maintaining transparency and efficiency in their own systems. Both examples highlight the value of preparation and progress in very different fields.
