Things have been relatively quiet regarding the lawsuit filed by Nintendo and The Pokemon Company against Pocketpair, the developer of Palworld. The lawsuit, which is seeking compensation for damages due to infringement of multiple patent rights, has resulted in several changes being made to Palworld in response, and a further change will be coming with Patch v0.5.5.
With this patch, all gliding will be done with a glider rather than on the backs of Pals. In Pokemon Legends: Arceus, players would eventually unlock the ability to glide using a Hisuian Braviary, and in Scarlet and Violet the ability to glide using Koraidon and Miraidon would eventually be unlocked, so it is likely the changes have been made in reference to this feature.
The full statement from the developer is below:

Congratulations to Nintendo, the great bully of the gaming industry.
Oh yes, there are still cases like that…
Congratulations to palword…for heing AI crap.
Huh? Palworld didn’t use AI lmao
Traced art is not AI, you’re right !
This is a damn problem for future games, not only Pokémon clones and yes, there should be clone games. Let me explain:
There was always a rival in the market when something got done; Hickey Mouse and Felix, every developed car, every TV show, food recipes and so on. But now that Nintendo patents game mechanics, this makes a dangerous change, that could taken over in many fields of ingenuity and limit the market. The result would be devastating for consumers, who want new versions like Palworld and Pokémon. Both should be a allowed like there are multiple cars, washing machines or internet browsers.
“Appreciation for the continued support” That’s why i stopped playing Palworld, because they keep changing and/or removing features. It was a decent game, now it’s rubbish.
Nintendo has better lawyers than Apple confirmed. Especially after the latest development on Epic v. Apple
This sets a dangerous precedent, actually.
If I make an adventure game where the player flies across the skies on a giant bird, is Nintendo gonna come after me about it because Link rides a giant bird in Skyward Sword? Or a game where the hero has to contend with a dangerous substance that the bad guys are exploiting, am I putting a target on my back because Metroid Prime features a similar thing with Phazon?
That’s where I see this leading.
I have nothing against the game honestly, but Nintendo is always protective with their IPs.
The spheres were one thing, but now Nintendo is slowly trying to kill this game.
Now I just have to wait for the mod/fan patch that adds everything BACK into the game (and I still don’t have a Steam Deck yet, much less Palworld).
But now I’m just curious as to what future content Pocket Pair has locked behind this forced update.
But there is a problem. Back in the PS1 era, there was a game called Jade Cocoon, where you captured monsters with cocoon balls just like Pokémon and no one complained about it. This is nothing new and jumping on Palworld now is just wrong. This patent copyright thing is destroying video games.
Gamefreak and Nintendo have slowly pushed me away with these kind of actions. I think their new leadership(s) is a sad, empty shell compared to what it used to be. Especially how they borrowed loads of concepts from other games and then to turn around and say “MINE!” right after makes them look pathetic.
Uh oh! Red Dead Redemption & Assassin’s Creed are next! They allow horse riding & Ocarina of Time did that first! Cease & desist, you filthy thieves! (Yea, I kno! 2 months too late… so sue me! shifty eyes)
