Japan: 1.2 million Nintendo Switch 2 units seemingly allocated for launch

Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 system have been a resounding success for Nintendo, more so than the company had actually expected. Rough pre-order estimates show that the Kyoto-based company is allocating around 1.2 million Nintendo Switch 2 units at launch in the Land of the Rising Sun. This base figure takes into account consolidated survey results from the first two My Nintendo Store Switch 2 pre-order lotteries and Japanese retailers pre-order lotteries. To put this in perspective the original Nintendo Switch sold 330,000 units at launch and the PlayStation 2 sold 600,000 units at launch.

  1. Nintendo will lead the console market from here. I don’t know what to feel honestly, on one hand this is the company that bringed me the best videogame experiences ever and I totally understand why it totally became the main company for gaming, on the other I know Nintendo is insanely greedy and has horrible anti consumer practices and the fact that now they don’t have any major competition against, those practices will become even worse just by looking at the prices of their new games. I still haven’t bought the console, I know for a fact Mario kart world is going to be amazing but I don’t feel like supporting Nintendo at the moment. I’ll just wait and see how things will unfold.

    1. Yeah don’t think I agree that they have anti consumer mentality. Also $80 for a complete game with tons of content. Sounds good to me. We are lucky and spoiled that game prices haven’t been going up more and more.

Toshiba island for SNES was like 70$ back when it came out. Convert to today’s money, then stop being a bandwagon complainer

      1. “Back then my games costed” yeah yeah, nevermind the fact that everyone was living like heaven back then and everything else was insanely cheap and now people don’t have money to feed themselves. Thanks bud.

        1. “…everyone was living like heaven back then…”

My $4.25 an hour job back then disagrees. People who didn’t live through that time have a distorted view of what it was really like. I struggled to feed myself and keep a roof over my head, you can keep burying yours in the sand and pretending everyone was a millionaire.

  2. We are not Lucky that Games are $80 and they have been going up more and more. I also wouldn’t call Mario Kart World a Completed game with tons of content. Especially when you sit it next to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. I also don’t care if a Super Nintendo Game was $70. Back then you could own a Car, an entire house for a familly of four if not more, and could afford food for everyone, entertainment, and recreational activities, and still have plenty of money left over. I’m sick of ignorant people using the excuse “But Super Nintendo had”

    1. Lots of annoying people in the comments.

I’m going to enjoy my switch 2 on launch day with $50 Mario kart. Tired of all the complaining.

    2. Your entire statement is just factually incorrect. People, on average, have more disposable income today than at any point in history.

      1. What a dumbass take. You don’t even account for inflation. You’re just WRONG

One google search will show you that the price of goods has increased faster than the standard received wage. So no, people have LESS buying power than ever. There is just MORE stuff to purchase than ever before

That being said, if they have 1.2 million consoles – then why TF haven’t I received my invitation to purchase yet!!?

This entire launch is pure cheeks. Kinda like your statement there 😅😂

  3. Regardless of what some people here might think, the cost of living keeps rising. We can debate about salaries and so on, but when I see that some people are not hesitant to buy a mere phone that’s barely better than the one they’ve had for a year for 1000€, I really think they are complaining for nothing!

    1. LMAO. The braindead takes keep getting worse and worse (yours is the worst so far)

I got a bridge I’m selling that I think you’ll be interested in though!!

  4. I lived through a lot of console releases. I remember Nintendo trying to charge way to much for n64 games then more competition happened sony Playstation locked in $39.95 games remember when they started to sell for 49.95 people complained. Now they are selling for 69.95 you know what if the games don’t sell they will just drop the price that’s a great thing about supply and demand. I’ll keep buying switch games I’ll buy when I get a good deal I use gamefly allot and the most I pay for a game is $30 sometimes 50 when I decide to keep a rented game. Puts gamestop to shame on used game prices.

    1. I doubt The Switch 2 will flop, and I think Mario Kart World is going to sell alot. I just expected better from Nintendo. World was originally made for the Original Switch and for me, it shows, I don’t think they did enough when bringing it to the new hardware. It’s still going to sell though just like Pokemon sells. Those high sells will keep Companies like Nintendo from feeling the need to not do their very best and for them to keep charging high prices for things.

    1. Lol Flop, It will be the largest console launch of all time. Between 15 & 20 million units sold in the 1st year. Digital game downloads have been a thing for a decade now.

  5. I paid $96 for Turok The Dinasour Hunter on N64 at EB Games on release day. So $80 is not an issue for me. Games have been sitting at $49 to $59 since I bought Games for the NES In 1991. It amazes me they haven’t raised in price over the years.
