You may not have realised it but Game Informer is thankfully back and has published an exclusive interview with SEGA‘s content production department, Kagasei Shimomura, to chat all about the resurrection of the classic Shinobi franchise. Shimomura says that obviously internally the hopes are that the soon-to-be-released Shinobi: Art of Vengeance proves to be a hit both critically and financially. If this turns out to be the case then SEGA plans to fully revive the dormant series. Here’s what Mr. Shimomura told Game Informer:
“Sega isn’t viewing this as a one-off revival. If successful, the Shinobi franchise could experience a sustained revival that sees it retake a place of prominence among Sega IPs. “Most important for us is to create games, of course,” Shimomura says. “That being said, we do feel strongly about growing IPs and nurturing our IPs. So, the game release comes first, but we have also put out a release before about certain video content, but there are so many things that could happen in the future. Nothing is set in stone, of course, but there could be maybe comics or goods […] We do think that IPs are supposed to evolve and expand, and we really do feel very strongly about our Shinobi IP and want to take care of it and nurture it. Maybe there might be a Vengeance 2 somewhere along the road. This is obviously nothing that’s planned right now, but it really depends on how we can nurture the IP in the future and how the IP is going to grow, but we definitely do want to grow it.”

That doesn’t mean much of anything because this series hasn’t had any type of consistency and even this new game looks nothing like the old ones
I don’t want it revived if its by Lizard Cube.
How come? 😮
More reheated spam? Meh…
If this is what it takes to get a Shinobi revival, then I fully support it🥷
Let RGG revive it. First have them remake Shenmue 1-3, make Shenmue 4 and 5 with Suzuki, and remake the PSP Yakuza games. Buy Platinum too.
They are basically trying to inflate the number of games sold by making people feel sorry,
Shadow Dancer
Oh wow, the old “let’s make an IP hostage and, if flops, it’s entirely on the people”.
Not to mention the game looks far from impressing, so they’re practically stating it won’t do well.
It looks incredible! Not sure what you’re seeing.
SEGA does what Nintendont = SEGA makes dorodango, Nintendo makes $$$
Do you think anyone in that office played the original shinobi even as a kid?
This remake is just generics producing generics.
Why is Sega not developing this game. The intro looked good that’s it.
Sega do you wonder why retro has made such a Huge comeback? I don’t like the slashes, huge flashes of yellow light wtf every slash.
Such a legacy deserves better than fancy graphics and bacdrops.
Gameplay and depth, not huge story lines,
