The Nintendo Switch Online app, now referred to simply as the Nintendo Switch App, has been updated to Version 3.0.1. on iOS and Android. Not only does the update introduce the name change, but a few new major features are also now available, enhancing the user experience and compatibility for both the current Switch and future Switch 2 owners. Some of the new features don’t require a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, which is likely the reason for the removal of “online” in the title.
Switch 2 exclusive features include the ability to receive GameChat invites, as well as send screenshots and videos from your system directly to the app (up to 100 files can be uploaded and stored for up to 30 days, NSO subscription not required).
As for new features that are compatible with the entire Nintendo Switch family of systems, you can now send and receive friend requests via the app using either a friend code or QR code, view your friends’ online status and play activity, enable push notifications for when a friend goes online, and view your own play activity with a more precise gameplay hour counter.

Aaa the play activity really got my hopes up. Apparently it’s just the same tracker from the Switch 1. I thought it showed all of your games and the exact hours, etc..
Ooh, wait, actually it seems they’ve updated the hour tracker. At least up to a certain point? Maybe up to 50 hours? Several games are showing 13, 18, 23, instead of the 5 hour chunks from before. Games under an hour still show up as ‘played for a little while’ and games above 50 are showing 65, 100, etc., instead of being hour-specific
I miss the 3DS play activity tracker….
Me too! 3DS measured your gaming activity precisely.
Totally forgot all about that on the 3DS. I use to check it on a regular basis.
Reminds me of the good old days with the 3DS.
Nice they’re adding a bit more QoL in it. Can’t help but feel the Nintendo Today app and Nintendo Switch app should have been just one app. And the Parental Controls app should all be in there too.
Sickr didn’t write this article, therefore it is not a good article. QED.
So nice to get screenshots right to all. PlayStation and Steam have spoiled me on this.
