Nintendo believes GameChat will inspire players to play games in ways they never imagined

One of the new features that comes courtesy of the Nintendo Switch 2 is GameChat, which as the name suggest, allows you to video chat with fellow gamers. Speaking to investors, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said that he hopes that the inclusion of GameChat on Nintendo Switch 2 will “inspire consumers to play games in new ways that we never imagined.” We won’t know for sure if that will happen until the Nintendo Switch 2 launches globally on 5th June, alongside the sure-fire hit Mario Kart World.

“We developed GameChat with the goal of recreating that childhood experience of kids getting together with their gaming systems, but in the modern environment. You may have experienced getting together to play the same game, or just being together in the same place while playing different games. By using the features of Nintendo Switch 2, we can recreate that experience not only with offline local multiplayer gameplay, but online as well. You can experience GameChat not only with Nintendo Switch 2 titles, but also with Nintendo Switch titles. We hope that GameChat adds new value to software and inspires consumers to play games in new ways that we never imagined.”

    1. The other systems don’t let you see the opponent face as u blue turtle shell them it’s not the same

  1. They should bring back the messaging feature like the Wii had. That part of the Wii was under-rated. If they added something like that in the future, it would make the subscription more worth it.

  2. They need to stop talking about GameChat like it ain’t just Discord. Idk if other consoles do it exactly the same way but this has been the norm on PC for like a decade now.

    1. Can you create servers and message people with Game chat? Didn’t think so. That’s enough to tell you it isn’t an exact Discord copy dude.

  3. It took this long to implement a feature that already exist, congratulations they basically created Twitch or Discord.

    1. Haven’t you read the news? Discord is good as dead thanks to Humam Sakhnini, Blizzard Activision’s Former CFO, who took over Discord.

  4. It’s really disingenuous for Nintendo to pretend like their voice chat functionality is some big new thing.

  5. I’m really confused by what they think their voice chat system is going to change. Maybe they’re just talking about their own games? Since nobody’s been able to play Nintendo games with good voice chat before? I don’t know, honestly the jury is still out on whether or not it will even be “good voice chat“

  6. I think it’s funny that people were saying Nintendo was asking like they invented Game Chat. I didn’t QUITE feel that way from the Direct, but interviews and press releases since then have changed my mind. Nintendo is really pushing hard that these standard features are REVOLUTIONARY.

  7. So narrow minded.
This is a fully integrated Discord with tools for developers to tap into should they wish.
You dismiss it as something you’ve always had yet neither Sony nor Microsoft has managed to fully integrate video and audio with something as simple, and open ended, as Discord.
You just love to hate don’t you?

  8. First thing I do when my Switch 2 is here at my place, is to deactivate Game Chat. No need for this.

  9. SamusTheMagicDragon

The Sega Dreamcast had voice for some of it’s games back in 1999. The original XBOX had it for tons of it’s games.

  10. Its not doing anything new though…
Heck, you could even use the Switch to do this on that stupid phone app so it’s not even new by Nintendo standards. And after that “we’re spying on you” scare the other day, I imagine the few people that were excited for this ancient feature will try to avoid it because they don’t like big brother Nintendo creepily sneaking up behind you breathing on your neck.

  11. So Nintendo is finally doing something other platforms have had for decades??? And they think its revolutionary??? Nintendo simps are wild
