US: Nintendo Switch 2 third party software sales were better than original Switch launch

Reports circulated earlier today from some publications that third party game sales on Nintendo Switch 2 were fairly dire at launch. However, US sales tracker Mat Piscatella who works for Circana, has said that third party sales of Nintendo Switch 2 games in the United States were actually “far better” than those of the original Nintendo Switch console which launched in March 2017. The biggest third party game turned out to be the excellent Cyberpunk 2077 from CD Projekt Red.

Hate to contribute to a Discourse, but 3rd party share of Switch 2 software in the US is far better than it was during the Switch 1 launch.

      1. Good to see an actual cartridge at the top of the pile. Apparently several publishers who put out Key Cards said sales were “below their lowest expectations”… What were they expecting?

  1. Only thing I picked up so far besides MK Bundle was Bravely Default Remaster. I missed this on the 3DS due to time and money limitations at the time. Having a blast with the game so far!

  2. I mean original Switch had a very weak third party showing at launch and Switch 2 had a strong one so I guess it’s not surprising. I assume they are counting sales of the MK World bundle as sales of MK World because otherwise that would hugely distort it of course as BotW wasn’t bundled.

  3. It’s literally the Wii U launch all over again. People are fawning over a pretty mid version of a 5 year old game because “BuT iTz PoRtAbLe”*

    *battery life may vary

    1. Isn’t that the point of the nintendo switch? To play games on the go, and to play nintendo exclusives?

  4. This guys on BlueSky raises questionability. They’re going full defense for the industry right now look at Jason over at Bloomberg going crazy.
