Nintendo has confirmed in a recent interview series that the design for Donkey Kong in the upcoming Donkey Kong Bananza inspired Donkey Kong’s design in both the Super Mario Bros. Movie and the excellent Mario Kart World. The news was shared today by Kenta Motokura in the Ask the Developer series of interviews.
“That’s correct. Donkey Kong Bananza sparked the creation of a design which I think better conveys the new Donkey Kong.”

Uh most people already know that it is inspired by it since the beginning so why they mention it now? XD
Actually no, we didn’t already know this.
Up until now everyone thought the new Donkey Kong look in MKWorld and DK:B was inspired from the movie. What we now know is that it’s actually MKWorld and the movie that took inspiration from DK:B.
For people misunderstanding this article. It says Bonanza (started development in late 2017-early 2018) inspired the movie and the theme park- not the other way around.

Sorry, brain-fart. I read it as Mario World, without kart in the middle. My point still stands. Pretty cool that nintendo liked the design that they made enough that they used it for the movie and the new kart.
