There won’t be any Hollow Knight: Silksong reviews available at launch

The incredibly long-awaited Hollow Knight: Silksong will finally be with us all on 4th September, but it should be noted that those of you awaiting reviews at launch will come away disappointed. Journalist Jason Schreier met up with developer’s Team Cherry and was told that there won’t be any reviews on launch day as the team felt giving the game away to journalists before Kickstarter backers wouldn’t be the right thing to do. So don’t expect to see reviews until after the game comes out

In case you're wondering: Team Cherry told me they don't plan on sending out early codes for Silksong (they felt like it'd be unfair for critics to be playing before Kickstarter backers and other players), so don't expect to see reviews until after the game comes out

    1. It’s definitely suspicious. However, the game is/was already playable at Gamescom this week, so if it had some glaring flaws, people would’ve quickly caught on and there’d probably be tons of videos of it. This is one of those rare cases where I genuinely believe their reasoning and think the suspicion is unwarranted.

  1. I don’t see this move as suspicious, they have been insanely misterious with the info for far too long, I think they want to let players enjoy the game with no spoilers at all. If this game comes out and it’s bad I’m gonna laugh a lot but I doubt it’s gonna happen.

  2. I think it’s a safe bet that this game is going to be good and up to scratch anyway. Team Cherry are in a decent position, and their reasoning is commendable.

  3. Review copies shouldn’t even be a thing anymore. Someone who gets a game for free, isn’t obligated to finish it, and is part of access journalism culture is NOT representative of the average gamer experience and perspective.

  4. I think the problem is that these activists would cry like little girls because the game is not only too hard but doesn’t have a journalist mode and that would impact their scoring plus people don’t wanna be spoiled. Regardless of actual reasons I think this is fair.
