Final Fantasy 7 Remake lead says they considered Switch 1 Cloud Version but decided against it

Final Fantasy VII Remake co-director and Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi has said in a recent interview that they considered bringing Final Fantasy 7 Remake to the original Nintendo Switch console as a cloud version. Square Enix previously brought the Kingdom Hearts games to the Nintendo Switch via the cloud and we can assume that these full price titles didn’t get the sales that Square Enix was hoping for. Here’s what Mr. Hamaguchi had to say about a cloud version of Final Fantasy VII Remake

Can you talk about the origins of the Switch 2 version? Why did Square Enix believe it would be a good fit, and was it ever considered for the original Switch?

“We’ve always maintained a very good relationship with Nintendo. With the original Switch, we experimented with cloud versions for titles like Kingdom Hearts, but that approach didn’t feel right for Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Once we learned what the Switch 2 could do, it felt like a natural and positive opportunity.”

  1. *Key Card means the game doesn’t exist for me. I bought the Switch 2 full price but if I want physical 3rd party games I have to get the Switch 1 versions. If there aren’t Switch 1 versions, I’m out of luck. I wish that I could sue nintendo. I was scammed out of five hundred dollars for a console that has the ability for physical games but then Nintendo made Game Key Cards. I bought the Switch 1 version of Pac-Man yesterday. Why do I have a Switch 2?!?

        1. It’s because Cyberpunk 2077’s memory size is less than 64GB… a perfect fit for a physical 64GB game card. Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on Switch 2’s memory size 81GB… and it will NOT fit inside a 64GB game card. Furthermore, FFVII Remake Intergrade has better and faster loading times in digital and game key card… and it’s more reliable than the standard 64GB game card.

    1. Nice try, Rocket J. Troll. Greed has nothing to do with it. Only speed and reduced loading times digitally.

    1. This is My Nintendo News… not My FOX NEWS! If you want to talk about domestic terrorism, political murder or any of that conspiracy theory bullsh*t, I strongly suggest you to go the fook someplace else. You don’t belong here!

  2. Game Companies used to put a single game on multiple cartridges and discs. There’s an official version of GTA5 on PC that uses multiple discs

    1. We’re no longer in the CD-ROM / DVD-ROM era anymore. Digital is the way of life. You just have to accept the reality and move the hell on.

      1. Umm. I have Steam. I have a Nintendo collection. A few switches. Premium account. Why do you feel the need to champion “less?” Owning..less. Paying…more. What’s up with that? Key cards are for chumps.

    2. You realize cards are expensive, and you want them to put the game on multiple ones? For what? So you can bitch about the price of the game next? 🤦‍♂️ These aren’t $0.05 CDs.

      1. Maybe instead of defending Nintendo and other Billionaire companies you should be asking why aren’t they doing better for the consumers.

        1. Defending? Carts have been historically expensive, it’s the reason why the N64 was left with little to no support. And now you want them to add 2 carts just so you don’t have to download the game. That’s fine and all, but are you completely fine paying extra to accommodate your preferences? Or are you going to bitch and moan about the price next?
