Bill Trinen knows fans want Mario Kart World on Nintendo Music

Nintendo of America’s Bill Trinen has taken part in an interview with The Washington Post to chat about the newly announced The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild vinyl collection which will be available in 2026. Talk soon turned to the Nintendo Music app which houses a number of acclaimed soundtracks for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. Mr. Trinen was asked when we can expect the sublime soundtrack of Mario Kart World to appear on the streaming service. He said that he’s fully aware that it would be a much requested addition to the app, but he couldn’t say when it will be added. Here’s what he said:

“I can’t go into too much detail, but I can say that it does actually take time and work to prepare soundtracks for Nintendo Music. And that soundtrack is particularly robust. It’s a matter of looking at the calendar and saying whether something might fit in or not. We’ve certainly heard that people are eager to see that on Nintendo Music.”

  1. You know what’d be kinda cool? I was just thinking not too long ago— what if Nintendo Music was available via an app on the Switch/Switch 2? That’d be pretty cool.

Also, imagine if you could access the app right from the start screen, where all the little circle icons are. Maybe set a song to loop as a background theme for your home menu. Maybe even a playlist that goes in order/randomizes on startup. That’d be crazy neat, I’d love that.

    1. I don’t see how the game is any less complete than any other Mario Kart game previously released (ignoring MK8D which obviously was a rerelease of an old game which had had 3 years to add content)

      1. Exactly this. I feel like everyone is comparing this to the current state of 8Deluxe which as you said was a rerelease that already had additional DLC and then another massive paid DLC that took like 1 or 2 years to fully release.

        1. Yeah, I mean the current state of MK8D is literally the culmination of a decade of free updates, DLC and a rerelease onto the original game. And when it comes to price, for MK8 I paid:

          Mario Kart 8: £50
          Wii U DLC: £11
          Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: £50
Booster: I have the NSO expansion but rather than use that price we’ll just use I think £20 is the base for this
Total: £131 if you’ve been with MK8 from the beginning

So you’re comparing a release that is £131 and 10 years in the making if you’ve been with it since its launch vs World that was about £50 in the bundle and is just a few months old.

I have my issues with World and I don’t think it quite measures up to MK8 from a gameplay perspective but it feels like it has more content than any other Mario Kart game at launch given the inclusion of the open world, so the unfinished accusation just feels bizarre. I guess it’s been so long since since a Mario Kart game released that people have no idea what is realistic to expect anymore!

  2. The app is clearly modeled after Spotify, so the ability to listen to Nintendo Music while on the home menu and while in a game should be a thing. If you’re gonna copy Spotify, might as well go all the way.
