Walmart ad suggests Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and Pikmin 2 are coming to Switch Online

Walmart’s website has a webpage dedicated to the Nintendo brand, featuring advertisements for Nintendo related products, with the ability to easily add them directly to your cart to make an informed purchase. While there’s nothing new or surprising about that, in an attempt to continue to push sales for Nintendo Switch Online, with Walmart offering both physical cards and digital codes for memberships, eagle-eyed fans were quick to spot an updated banner ad, featuring two GameCube games that have not been added to the service, or even officially announced yet: Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and Pikmin 2.

Both are classic titles deserving of being on the service, of course, but they’re also interesting picks for a multitude of reasons. Pikmin 2 is already available to purchase on Switch for £24.99/$29.99, and the original Metroid Prime already got fully Remastered, so getting Prime 2: Echoes (without Prime 3: Corruption) as an NSO drop wouldn’t make for the ideal remastered trilogy that’s been hoped for and rumored for years now. But then again, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker was recently added to Switch Online without Wind Waker HD ever being ported over from Wii U, so anything is possible.

  1. as I kinda stopped Beyond midgame at least for a while, my 1st reaction to this was, that I would actually rather play a NSO version of Echoes than a brand new 4th entry.

While Echoes felt more like a cool DLC for Prime, I was quite surprised how well it held up on my 2nd playthrough a few years back.

And about Pikmin 2. This marks the dawn of Bulbmin. I believe 1st time encountering them was one of my most bizarre Nintendo moment in an endless list of bizarre NIntendo moments.

      1. As I wrote in my comment I played through it two times.
And Yes, I understand it doesn’t use MP1s map data or stuff, but it plays pretty much the same with that Echoes-layer on top of it, which for me felt more like MP 1.5 than something entirely new.

Which isn’t even a bad thing, as MP1 was so good, I didn’t really care.

But looking at other games like Outer Wilds, DLC can even really differ more from the main game than a sequel would.

  2. time to replay Pikmin 2 again yessss

and it’s the original version with the 2000s items branding!!! I guess it makes sense they’d hold off on it to straighten out the licenses, which is probably easier to do when you aren’t selling the game at retail. Like, totally possible, but maybe a bit too complicated to have it out the month before Pikmin 4 like they were planning. So this makes sense!

I would have never thought… but, this is amazing. my favorite one lol

    1. Pikmin 2 is the best in the series IMO, a good challenge and enemy variety. Don’t get me wrong Pikmin 4 is amazing but a little on the easy side. In Pikmin 2 you really have to plan and strategise each of the cave’s sub-levels.
