Hamaguchi says Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 developed for multiple platforms and says shift won’t impact the graphics

Final Fantasy VII Remake director Naoki Hamaguchi has reconfirmed to Automaton Media that Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 will be a multiplatform release and has moved to assure fans that both the graphical quality and the overall presentation of the long-awaited third part of the trilogy won’t be affected. There were concerns from some fans of the franchise online that the overall graphical quality would be affected by the move to Nintendo Switch 2, but Hamaguchi said the game will firstly be developed for high-end PC’s and then be optimised down for each platform. He also said that development of the game is in the the “final push” and will have more to share at a later date.

“Both the Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox versions have been incredibly well received and generated a lot of buzz online, and that attention has also made me realize how many people are worried about this issue. However, our decision to go multiplatform with the FFVII Remake series will not in any way lower the quality of the third installment.”

  1. At launch? If so like Nate said my question is what happened? I thought Sony funded this and part of the deal is exclusivity did they renegotiate or was it a weird deal for only 2 games out of 3?

    1. Simple: Square is in financial troubles and they can’t afford to keep their most successful franchise on a single console anymore, even as a timed exclusive.

      1. No not simple Sony paid for it that’s the question what did Square to get out the deal or did Sony only pay for 2 out of 3 which is weird. The remake was exclusive because Sony helped fund it the whole reason it happened and to an extent Epic since the first game was timed exclusive EGS on PC

        1. Sony didn’t fund anything. Square themselves wanted to make it Playstation exclusive because that’s how it was at the time. At most, they paid for Remake being a timed exclusive and for Intergrade to be PS5-exclusive. You’re confusing VII:R with Forspoken.

That Square themselves decided to go “screw it, we need to make money” only confirms things further. Rebirth selling less than half than Remake was the last straw.

          1. No Sony funded it bro but go ahead lie to yourself there is a reason it was exclusive times exclusive same with Epic exclusivity for Remake. Square got paid they didn’t randomly just make it PS exclusive just because.

          2. No they paid for FF7 as well only reason it was made was Sony funded the remake they originally said part 3 would be exclusive to PS5 years ago. So what happened?

  2. I don’t think they get a big boost in sales like they hope the people who bought it will still buy it but now less. Before they bought it twice on PS5 because it released first on that, then again on Steam for the best looking version now many of those people will buy it only on Steam. Xbox no one really there and I have to wonder how many buying the Switch 2 Remake port bought the game already and would they triple dip or quadruple dip? I think it will be around the same as remake or less when it launched.

  3. Before the rage baiter gets here and says I need to get a better taste in games and the games going to flop, I just want to say I think the games are great, but are some of the least faithful remakes I have ever played. I am not very mad at that, but kind of annoyed.

But this news is great! I am happy to see the development team care so much for their multiplatform effort.

    1. It’s because they aren’t remakes. They are a sequel to the OG FFVII. “Remake” is only the title of the first game, not what the games are intended as.

      1. That’s what confuses and intimidates newcomers. Some who tried Remake seemed to be confused and didn’t come back for Rebirth or assumed it was a PS5 rerelease

        1. Then why are you talking to defend the game? That’s the problem you want to cry ragebaiter and all that crap but not understand why people call something out or call the people praising this as a jumping on point shills. This was never a jumping on point and makes no sense for newcomers it’s crazy Square made this but Sony funded it and Nomura was allowed to do whatever.

    2. Yeah Rebirth did flop and most assume less will buy this at launch. It’s going to be interesting seeing how multiplatform helps this or hurts it given many bought it twice gevause timed exclusivity on PS5 but now many will buy it on 1 platform especially PC over console.

  4. Cool. If it does a simultaneous release I’ll probably get the Switch 2 version. I’ll take the portability over the 60fps. Replaying Remake now on Switch 2 (picked it up last week when I got Mario Tennis Fever) and greatly enjoying the port!

      1. I don’t understand your sentence. You may have had a typo 😭. Honestly I don’t even own a 4k tv, so aside from increased frame rate, it’ll likely look the same. I’d take 30fps if it means I can play in bed or on trips (which I go on often). But to each their own

      2. 1- Not everyone cares about PS5.
2- PC will look and run better than even PS5.
3- Portability is just too strong of a draw. Many Switch ports, despite looking and running worse than other consoles, sold a lot because you could take them anywhere.

    1. Rebirth flopped this will replicate that to an extent maybe slight boost from multiplat but knowing Square they expect bigger numbers because of that and 2 million won’t cut it.

                    1. You’re the one seething bro pretending a flop sold well when Square said it underperformed. If it sold so well why make the sequel multiplat? Why push to get the 2 previous games on more platforms before the third comes out? It flopped they want to avoid that with 3.

  5. I haven’t played the games and I won’t venture to play them until all the parts are out and I’m able to have them all and play them at my own pace. But I have seen how the second part ended and what I’m most curious about is if they’re going to change that pivotal part of the story. I really hope they don’t but the way they’re going who knows. I think they left what happens to Aerith purposely confusing so it could go either way. But I think if they change that it could be very diversive. Time will tell.

    1. It wasn’t confusing. They had to censor her death because of strict CERO ratings.

But they’ve painted themselves into a corner either way. Either they change it drastically and assume that VII:R is fanfic material where “everyone lives” or they don’t and all of the trilogy’s developments amount to nothing.

Something that could be avoided had they simply made a true remake like people asked for the better part of two decades.

  6. This is very simple, and all these exclusive on PS5 will slowly start to disappear.

Answer: The New Years Rom Key Leak.

80 million PS5 are compromised and keeping them exclusive is asking for failure. This is the PSP all over again. Just warning all of you PS only players to be prepared for either dying support from 3rd parties, or Sony leaving you all out in the cold. It’s happened 3 times already ( PS Vita, PS Move, & PS Vr) it’ll happen again. 🤷

      1. So on New years 2 hackers leaked the Boot ROM keys to the PS5. That’s the signature authenticator, that pretty much tells the PS5 that what it’s reading is authentic. This itself doesn’t mean that the PS5 is hacked, but what it does mean is that jail breaking is now much easier to do, and it’s going to speed up the process by folds. This is also a problem at a hardware level, meaning that that Sony can’t just get rid of it. At best, they’ll be playing wack-a-mole with updates to clear the current jailbreaks, but an update from modders will get you right back.

This is why I said that 80 million PS5’s are already compromised.

This article explains it more in detail.
