Sonic Frontiers director set to have 6-article column on game’s development

Sonic looking at the stars in Sonic Frontiers

It has been announced that Sonic Frontiers director Morio Kishimoto will be extensively detailing the development of Sonic Frontiers in a new 6-article column which will be featured on the official Sonic the Hedgehog website. That’s not all as the official website also opened a form for the fans asking what they want to see from the new column. Topics include various aspects of the mainline Sonic game’s gameplay, story, graphics, and sound. It’s not clear when the post will go live, but we shall endeavour to let you know.

  1. I’m a huge Sonic Fan, Frontiers isn’t even a Great Game. It’s extremely Mid. Just because it wasn’t labeled a bad Sonic Game, Sega wants to boast and push and act like it’s a masterpiece and up there with the greatest games. They literally have been hinting at a Sonic Forces 2. Again, not calling it a bad game but it wasn’t a good game either. I don’t think Sonic Frontiers should be the Direction they push Sonic. The Shadow part of Generations almost perfectly combines Adventure and Boost Gameplay together and it was pretty great. The Greatest? no but Better than Frontiers. Remove all the Super Sonic Moments and really tell me how well the game was.

    1. Sonic Team and SEGA want’s to boost the franchise sales by creating something more unique for the next game to address the latest game like Shadow Generations and Frontiers. Shadow Generations was a good game but its not even close into Sonic’s level in a combat core play. As much as I love Sonic Adventure, they should have brought the adventure formula back for the franchise.

          1. They developed the sonic advance trilogy and the sonic rush games, which are the best games during the franchise’s dark era, if someone has to go i’d say is Iizuka.

            1. Yes but the fact remains that they mess up the main gameplay for Sonic Unleashed on the Wii and Sonic Colors on the DS version and of course Xenoverse 2 online mode connections. So I don’t trust the company and development team works for them.

Every time I go online by playing Xenoverse 2, I keep getting disconnected each time when I battle other players and streamers in the game and sending me back to the lobby. They happen way to often. Not just me but other people online experience this as well. I do love the avatar creation system and the gameplay but dimps involvement of the game for each systems really pissed me off. Now I’m even more pissed off since they are going to be involved in Xenoverse 3 development since they are handling it. So no. I don’t want near the franchise and its core development on any games ever again.

              1. Yes, but who gave them the resources and instructions about the projects developers are hired?

I am gonna give you an example, blaming retro studios for metroid prime 4 shortcomings is dumb because Nintendo financed the project, so sonic unleashed wii issues are on Sega’s court not dimps because the former are responsible on the direction the projects go and about that xenoverse servers, the publisher should invest in updating them or whatever but let’s be fair and say that the blame is 50% – 50%.

Your hate is unjustified and if you think you have to hate them for those failures (in your eyes) you should hate sonic team instead for turning sonic into a walking joke (sonic tge hedgehog genesis, sonic 2006, forces, boom, superstars…), just saying.

                1. Just because the company deserved a second chance to help out a new main Sonic game that doesn’t excuse them for making Sonic games a freaking garbage disposal for making it worse on a Nintendo platform thanks to their weak development tools and coding’s they used on computers like graphic stylus pencils.

I hate to admit this but Dimps still needs some work on their development on any games they are involved in. I understand publishers like Nintendo, SEGA and other companies wanted other companies to handle development on their respective IPs, but don’t you think both companies should have another development team handle game development to another studio instead of Dimps?

Yes, I did hate Sonic Team once for their failures of Sonic 06 and Sonic Lost World development because they treated both games as weak, and low experience for a Sonic brand that didn’t compare to the adventure formula which they didn’t even get a chance to do. I called it a waste of money on development and resources that never evolve core gameplay for Sonic to appeal older and new fans of the franchise. Sonic Team and SEGA got some ways to go if they don’t want Sonic to be in second place. They wanted him to catch up with Nintendo’s mascot Mario so he won’t be outshine by Nintendo fans by making him look like a joke.

I understand SEGA is still trying but it never meet their expectations for Sonic Racing: Crossworlds sales since they realize that its getting really poor maybe because of DLC characters not getting voices due to license issues in the gaming market for the game.

                  1. Sonic team and sega are the ones to blame, they could have lend them the development tools, remember how platinumgames devs went to Nintendo’s headquarters during the development of Star fox zero?

Also the ones who gave instructions about the game (sonic unleashed) design was Sega, the roadmap was already set before the project fell into dimps hands, it was not a project originally pitched by them and who was supposed to oversee the project? That’s right: Sega. So let’s leave this way: blame sega for being blind and throw money and dimps for being incompetent like the one who runs sonic team.

    2. I’m not even sure Sonic Frontiers is objectively better than Sonic ‘06.
They’re both janky games with unpolished environments, self-serious storylines and absolutely banger soundtracks. Especially the Switch versions are basically ‘06 levels of unfinished jank. SEGA just got lucky with the timing. People like corny raw uniqueness these days, which is what Sonic has. Back in ‘06, there was little tolerance for a flawed niche platformer with Final Fantasy-like storytelling. Also, we’d been getting riskier Sonic games prior to ‘06, while the games prior to Frontiers were extremely safe in comparison. Point is, Frontiers being a surprise hit has more to do with the series’ enduring fanbase and legacy and less to do with the game itself. At least IMO. Bring on the next Sonic game already!

  2. Do they really need to extensively detail anything about any Sonic game since Sonic Boom? They haven’t exactly hit on something really revolutionary for the modern part of the series. Why do the games feel like they had to include every idea they had just to get a full game done? Even then those ideas seem like they had to be stretched out. I’m sure they’d say, oh we had lots of ideas lots of extra ideas too. So then I blame management and setting deadlines no matter the state of development. That’s why each game has to reinvent itself, they never fully develop or iterate much of what they can get made
