Zelda Movie actor couldn’t play Breath of Wild at launch because he was too young

Gaming publication Games Radar managed to catch up with Benjamin Evan Ainsworth who plays Link in the upcoming The Legend of Zelda Movie. While he couldn’t disclose any details about the movie he said that unfortunately he was quite young when the iconic The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild came out, so he didn’t have a chance to play it, but he watched playthroughs on YouTube and Twitch. He said that he feels very fortunate to play Link and that he’s been loving his time in New Zealand where the movie is filmed.

“I can’t speak too much on the film itself, but I remember vividly when Breath of the Wild came out – and it might show my age – but I remember being quite young at the time when it came out, and so I didn’t have a Switch at the time,” he admits. “And so, I was watching gamers play it, and watching playthroughs, essentially.”

“And then, upon being fortunate enough to play this role, such an iconic character, going back and realizing the 40 years of legacy and history, and the varied tones, the varied stories, the varied renditions and vocal performances of this character as well,” he continues. “Yeah, I’m a big fan, and just really excited, because it was an awesome thing to shoot. New Zealand is a wonderful place. But yeah, can’t say too much more.”

    1. By the time the movie comes out, Breath of the Wild will have already celebrated its 10 year anniversary.

Time to wrap it up everybody, we’re gettin’ old… LOL

      1. You’re only as old as you think and feel. My mom is 62 and she’s still just as active as she was in her thirties, arguably even moreso. Don’t let the internet tell you that you’re old.

        1. Exactly! Because 53 to 55, that’s when old age starts. But people on the internet says that being in your 50s is not old and some say its still young. So, Its hard to choose sides between the two.

          1. (suggestion (or a response to a common abbreviation for profanity at the end of previous (Robin) message) always be polite and considerate (one more suggestion: this Biblical verse: “Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.” – Ephesians 4:29, New Living Translation version))

  1. “vocal performances of this character as well” That’s about the only highlight, hint we get from this excerpt. I swear if they make Link talk they’ll ruin the magic.

    1. It’s a movie dude he’s absolutely going to talk if they make him not talk they’re going to ruin the movie lol come on dude

    2. It makes literal zero sense for having Link as a mute in the movie. By the way, be it in cartoons, manga or movie, Link always spoke.

Also what “magic”? The magic of having a protagonist that doesn’t interact and, in AoC, whenever he was around, all dialogue and interactions came to a halt? Silent protagonists is an overused trope that doesn’t make sense anymore.

      1. Your stupidity is staggering.

You really are just a fount of dogshit takes, huh?
Like genuinely, every comment you make on here is completely and utterly retarded in one way or another.
I’m amazed you’re even able to breathe without help. Utterly brainless.

Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.” – Luke 6:37, New Living Translation version)))

  2. The “…vocal performances of this character…” – you mean “Hyah!” “Ha!” “Ugh,” and other great lines?

    1. Yeah, Hunter Schaefer would have been a great female for the role but this actress is probably going to do a great job :)

          1. (suggestion: remember to always be polite and considerate (in addition to remembering this Biblical verse: “Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.” – Ephesians 4:29, New Living Translation version))

  3. I can’t blame him for being too young for playing it because it wasn’t his fault. It still wouldn’t make more sense to keep the character muted for years or so.

  4. Who’s actually going to go watch this? Just another live-action fantasy film not unlike Lord of the Rings. Plus, LOZ isn’t known for its comedy, so no meta references the Mario and Sonic films.

    1. i have my money on the movie doing less than Shadow but more than detective pikachu, sonic movie 1, sonic movie 2 and probably sonic movie 4 cuz who tf cares about amy lol metal hasnt been relevant since sonic heroes. they’ve recycled his boss fight from sonic cd everytime after sonic heroes

if zelda goes over shadows movies, i think itll be because botw or the trailers attract non gamers with fantasy visuals.

          1. (suggestion (or a response to a hyperlink connected to an unpleasant video): have respect (including self-respect) and consideration for the feelings of any person or creature (including those of any relative of thy self or any future Internet historian))

    1. This movie will do well. Fantasy is pretty hot in this moment, plus it will be PG (maybe hopefully pg13) most likely so younger people can go. El Turco is big around the world. Romantic Fantasy novels are big now those fans be interested. Videogame fans will come out. Also, I think Zelda games have more comedic moments than Mario games. I expect some genuine laughs from this movie.

        1. Fair point. I think an arrow in the chest of a creature or human would mean PG 13, it is just hard to imagine Nintendo making a PG 13 movie. Hope I’m wrong.
