US: Toys “R” Us opening 120 new stores

Famed toy chain Toys “R” Us, which also sold video games and video game consoles, has announced that it plans to open up 120 new stores in the United States this holiday season. The company previously had more than 1,000 locations across the United States and then it filed for bankruptcy in 2017. Toys “R” Us named LEGO, Barbie, Hot Wheels, Pokémon, and K-Pop Demon Hunters as the top toy brands it will offer.

“We’re seeing toys increasingly function as hobbies, fandom ecosystems, and social experiences rather than traditional children’s products,” said Kristen McLean, vice president of client insights for Circana’s Entertainment Knowledge Group. “That’s expanding the consumer base and creating new opportunities for manufacturers and retailers that understand how to engage collectors, enthusiasts, gifters, and self-purchasers.”

  1. Nice!! I remember going there for my birthday as a kid. It makes me happy to think kids these days will be able to have that experience as well :) it’s very wholesome

Now we just need a blockbuster revival, and they’ll experience the fun of renting and buying movies/games from there lol

  2. I’m glad Toys’R Us is making a comeback. It’s difficult for retails to exist in this landscape where online shopping has been the dominant force for multiple years.
