In a new interview with Famitsu the various developers behind Monster Hunter Wilds have revealed that the Nintendo Switch 2 version development kicked off in June 2025. The team began by trying to get the game up and running on the Nintendo Switch 2 and they say that it was “truly a process of optimising each and every element for the Switch 2.” Here’s what they had to say via machine translation:
There were signs of a potential Switch 2 port of ‘Wilds’ even before its official announcement. When did you decide to develop a Switch 2 version?
Tsujimoto: We started working on it quite a while ago. It wasn’t a matter of doing one thing and solving everything; it was truly a process of optimizing each and every element for the Switch 2. The development period took more than a year.
Sunano: Development began around June 2025.
Fujioka: There were several opportunities when we could have started development, but we had the problem of not having enough manpower to dedicate to it… It wasn’t simply a matter of porting data from other platforms to the Switch 2, so there was a long period when we couldn’t get started. However, when the development of “Wilds” settled down to some extent and some members had free time, we gathered the main members and decided to “seriously start working on the Switch 2 version,” and development began.
Tsujimoto: Serious development began around the end of last year.
Sunano: That was about the time we really started to focus on development, and it was quite a rapid pace.

I really want to try out wilds on switch 2, it’s only 40$.
