Rockstar San Diego Moving On To Next Open World Title

According to Game Informer, Rockstar San Diego, the development team behind Midnight Club and Red Dead Redemption, is currently hiring talented individuals to help create an open world game. Rockstar hasn’t mentioned any platforms, but with the Wii U scheduled to be released later this year let’s hope Rockstar decides to show it some love.

  1. I don’t see why not. The Rockstar guys love Nintendo. Not only they’ve already said they see GTA as essentially a Zelda game with different themes, they’ve even included new motion control features on the Wii versions for Bully and Manhunt and made a special GTA for the DS (Chinatown Wars).

They’re the prime example on how Nintendo dropped the ball with third-parties by not making the Wii a little more powerful. They WANT to do stuff for Nintendo hardware, but it’s hard to limit oneself when you can do something as vast and beautiful as, say, Red Dead Redemption. Hopefully the Wii U will solve that.

    • absolutely, and it being the most powerful console right now, im sure it will be primarily developed on the wii u then ported, but the pc version will be developed on the pc

    • Valve is the same way. They love Nintendo but they don’t want to take the business risk of spending all of the money for a ground-up game that probably won’t sell well.

Chinatown Wars was my favorite DS game and it’s a great example of Rockstar’s commitment to making great games. I don’t think it sold very well, unfortunately, but they ported it to just about every mobile device to make up for that.

    • A sequel to Chinatown Wars (or just another GTA game) would be awesome. The 3D effect in that top-down style would be glorious

  2. Herp derp not about Nintendo. In all seriousness, I’m looking forward to this. I never played RDR, but I’ve seen the amazing things said about it.

  3. y mis cincuenta mil pesos?! que le diga la poli cuanto dinero me quito de mis bolsillos!!! hahahahahahha es cura es curaaa

  4. So does this mean we’ll see a new “Red Dead” game, perhaps in 3D on the Nintendo 3DS?

Enough of this Grand Theft Auto crap, it’s been done to death… The cowboy thing however, is new and it would be great to see at least a few more Red Dead games.

      • Apparently that’s the reason we haven’t seen a Red Dead sequel (yet!) – because of the timeframe Red Dead Redemption was set in…

Red Dead was set in about the middle of the “Wild West”, whilst Red Dead Redempetion was set at the end… Whilst I disagree, the developers think Red Dead Redemption finishes too late in history to make a sequel.

      • And this is one such example of how a third Red Dead game could progress… Of course, there’s always the possibility of completely un-related characters, too.

    • Ha, I just looked that up and it looks pretty awesome… Not quite Red Dead awesome, but awesome nonetheless.

From what I can tell however, it is un-related to Rockstar, despite sharing a similar title to certain Rockstar games…

      • Lego City Stories is totally rockstar.

Lego just made an open world game that flopped. BIG TIME

They needed a company that really new what they were doing. and had a lot of success doing it.

What better time for rockstar to make a non M rated game than the launch of the Wiiu

  5. Just seeing the title in twitter I had no idea what you were talking about. Its good that talented developers are working on wii u.

  6. Despite what Nintendo like to think the Wii U is not a “next gen console”, but rather a stepping-stone the next generation consoles… I still think it will do well however, because what little I know about the Wii U tells me that this is what the Wii should have been!

And of course any good console needs third-party support (even one from a company like Nintendo with strong first-party franchises), so it’s great to see that developers are already commiting to the platform…
