Brand New Super Mario Game For Wii U To Be Shown At E3 Says Miyamoto

Legendary games designer Shigeru Miyamoto has confirmed to Spanish newspaper El Mundo that the company is planning to show off a brand new Super Mario game for the Wii U. Sadly there’s no real details, other than the game will combine the TV screen and the Wii U tablet screen, but thankfully we haven’t got too long to wait until E3 to find out.

    1. I agree. if Mario 4 is real, it should be a downloadable title like Sonic 4 (minus the whole episodic aspect), maybe for both the Wii U and 3DS?

  2. I hope it’s not a 2d side scroller. This could potentially show how beautiful a 3d mario world could be. *crosses fingers* please let Yoshi be involved

        1. Let’s not kid ourselves. Nintendo would obviously turn that tech demo into an actual product if it meant people would buy it.

          1. New Super Mario Bros Mii will probably be the launch Mario game for the WiiU and they will announce a 3D Mario game for a later release.

      1. The Galaxies were full 3D. The sidescrolling sequences were small and few. But I see your point and agree it could work nicely.

    1. they already have a side scroller mario game for wii u called super mario bros. mii so it’ll porobably be a 3d action adventure

  3. this is really obvious, after the massive sales of the SM 3d land on the 3ds and the burst of consoles sold cause of that and MK7 they dont want to do the same mistake they made with the 3ds and his launch games
from what we know now the wii u will have lots of “semi-old” but succesful third parties (DKsiders 2, ninja gaiden 3, batman, aliens, AC 3 etc…) and with all this and some other first parties i think it will do very fine with the launch games.

  4. this is exactly what Nintendo needs to do to make the Wii-U a success, some proper first party popular and great content is certainly a step in the right direction. every major mario game does well and this is also excellent news for mario fans like myself. also appeals to kids for the wii u making it again more appealing to a broader market. hopefully they manage to make a fantastic game, i dont think mario has been truly brilliant since sunshine, although 3d land was tremendous fun it will be interesting to see more about this, i have no doubt it will be a triumph for the epic series

    1. lol sunshine? both galaxy games beat the shit out of both M64 ans sunshine! thats why they have the two top spots for mario games as well as Galaxy being the best game of all time this far!

  5. Yaaay! After the 3DS fiasco, they would be foolish not to put all their resources into making this a long lasting launch title. I’m fine with whatever it is, but i’d rather it not be NSMB Mii. Unless it has a level maker, then YES!

    1. Of course you’ll remeber Reggie’s statement at that E3 that all the “experiences” from Nintendo weren’t actual games. NSMBM was one of those, and too many people forget that. He could have chosen better words than “conceptual stage,” though. Then again, that wasn’t the only poor communication that occured at that conference.

So in short, I wouldn’t worry about it. If anything it would be A feature and not “the” feature.

  6. I think this will most likely be the next 3D Mario game, or the New Super Mario Bros. Mii game we saw at E3 last year. I am personally hoping for Super Mario 128 :)

  7. Really hoping its that New Super Mario Bros. Mii game. Yes, I realize it was only a tech demo but I can hope they make it a full game.

  8. Now THIS is the real deal…I want this Mario game at Launch…if that happens Wii U is going to rape the current consoles.

  9. Thank you Miyamoto!!!! I love waking up to news like this. I hope it’s a brand new 3D Mario but if not, a sequel to any 3D Mario game would still be GREAT as long as its not Sunshine. Sunshine was an ABOMINATION!!! Then again, SMB4 would be great with a bunch of new Mario suits but in a 3D world….. My imagination is running wild now, just give me E3 already damn it!

    1. An abomination? Hardly. Yes, it’s the worst of the four home console 3D Mario games but it is up against Mario 64 and the two Galaxy games. Sunshine is a terrific game and still better than 99% of 3D platformers.

      1. Sunshine was terrible because it was so “confined” by specifics. I didn’t allow creativity. Now I could see FLUDD being an item in SMG3 where you use him to hop from planet to planet? THEN FLUDD WOULD GET SOME FUN GAMING!!!

  10. Thank the Lord!

This was definitely news that Nintendo needed to put out for the Wii U even before E3. Mario instills the necessary confidence in the console, and if they make it a launch…*tears*

  11. I’m so glad to hear this. I knew they would have to bring one of their major first party titles at launch and nothing is better than Mario. They can use it to show off the capabilities of the Wii U like the did with Super Mario 64 for the N64. Mario in HD ftw!!!!

    Leave luck to heaven.

  12. i got a feeling it might be a super mario world remake/sequal but the chances seem slim. mario sunshine could use a sequal but idk how many other people would bare to buy it. mario galaxy 3 seems a bit redundant but is still on the table as a possibility. a crazy assumption of mine would be that miyamoto flips the script an makes a game through the eyes of bowser in 3d but probally not.
