IGN Awards Rayman Legends For Wii U Best Platformer Of E3

IGN has published its best games of E3 and Ubisoft’s Rayman Legends has scooped the prestigious award for best platforming game. Rayman Legends beat a number of high-profile games, such as New Super Mario Bros U and New Super Mario Bros 2, to win the award. It appears that this is the platformer to look out for on Wii U when it launches later this year.

    1. Normally, I would agree. But, the Mario games looked very underwhelming whilst Rayman Legends looked awesome.

          1. not really… show mario to anyone and show them rayman. Mario is well known. Origins is a good game but def not Mario…

            1. as much as i love mario, i have to disagree with you, you said that legends looks just like origins, but doesnt mario bros U look the same as mario bros wii? I normally dont like rayman but origins is easily one of the best platformers ever.

                1. I prefer Donkey Kong Country Returns over any other 2.5D platformer. Rayman looks more impressive than NSMB U though it looks like they have more imaginative level design. I prefer the way mario controls more though…

  1. It’s good to see some competition between Nintendo and other companies. Maybe Nintendo learns to not milk their games.

    1. rayman legends looks about as similar to origins as mario bros U looks to mario bros wii, your point? Don’t get me wrong origins is my favorite platformer of all time, but don’t act like they didnt just push this sequel out as soon as they could.

    2. nobody has out-beat Nintendo yet so…. what do you mean milk there games, i don’t see no bad games from Nintendo yet. so rayman is comming to wii u so they won on that.

      1. the 3ds mario Game was pretty dissapointing, short levels and the illusion of twice as many levels, if that’s not milking a franchize then Activision is as great as nintendo, I’m sure as hell that the NSMBU is gonna be short too.

  2. I love that this happened. Personally I won’t be getting Legends, but it’s some publicity for the Wii U

    1. I’m with you on this one. I am a huge Nintendo fan, but who gives a shit what IGN thinks? They spread their own name across wikipedia, for pete’s sake!

  3. I think Rayman Legends really deserved it, NSMBU lacked any creativity and the idea of spawning platforms at random places to get extra stuff didn’t excite me, but Rayman Legends use of the touchscreen has limitless possibilities if the developers do it right and not make each level too much of more of the same.

    1. and rayman legends is also fucking similar to origins. Don’t act like nintendo is the only one at fault here, because mario bros U and mario bros 2 will be the only 2D marios for the system’s lifespan

      1. Legends has new characters, and a new engine. NSMBU still has Mario Luigi and 2 toads… WTF. People are getting tired of the NSMB series, your just quick to defend Nintendo.

      2. “rayman legends is also fucking similar to origins.”
From the footage shown so far, it seems less similar to Origins than NSMB2 & U is to NSMBwii. Stop being a blind fanboy.

  4. Why does IGN’s opinion matter if it’s positive news, and not matter if its negative news? IGN sucks, whether they have good or bass things to say about Nintendo.

  5. Judging by what has been shown of NSMB2 & u, it’s just as conservative in level design as the previous one. Nintendo are playing it too safe with this game (again), not sure why because we all know they’re more creative than this. On the otherhand, Rayman Legends seems pretty experimental whilst retaining the spirit of the previous game. We don’t know how it’ll all turn out in the end, but it certainly seems like they’re working harder on this than the Mario team are on their two games. They deserve the title of best Platformer of E3 2012.

Of course, Mario will sell better due to being such an iconic brand name, which means we’re unlikely to get much improvement any time soon (I doubt they feel much of a need to), unfortunately.

  6. I would normally be all over this like”NOTHING IS BETTER THAN MARIO!!!”… but I’m NSMB’d out. Unlike Galaxy and the original SMB and World and all the other Mario titles, NSMB all really feels like the same game to me. Id honestly prefer Rayman (for the simple fact that Origins was so much better than any NSMB game in my opinion). If Nintendo would have pulled a 3D Mario platformer instead of playing it safe, they would have taken home the gold.
