Mario’s first adventure on the new Wii U console, New Super Mario Bros. U, launches 30th November in Europe. In addition to all the side-scrolling fun that Mario is known for, the game includes a number of special modes and features that will make players want to jump in again and again.
- Challenge Mode: Challenge Mode tasks players with completing specific objectives, such as clearing a course without obtaining a single coin or touching the ground. There are four single-player Challenge categories: Time Attack, Coin Collection, 1-Up Rally and Special (miscellaneous challenges). Boost Mode Challenges require two players. Once players complete a Challenge, the game saves a replay of the action so players can show off their accomplishments.
- Coin Battle: Up to four players run through a course and compete to see who can collect the most coins. Another player can also use the Wii U GamePad in Boost Mode to place Boost Blocks to help grab hard-to-reach coins. Players can also use the GamePad to edit and customise the coin layout in dedicated courses. The coin layout can then be saved and played by the players using Wii Remote controllers.
- World Map: New Super Mario Bros. U is the first side-scrolling Mario game since 1992’s Super Mario World that features a seamless world map with named worlds and courses. The map contains many secret exits, which might change the map and cause shortcuts to appear. The worlds are interconnected, so people can play through the game in a nonlinear fashion.
- Nabbit: From time to time, a creature named Nabbit will appear on the world map. Players must enter the course and catch the speedy Nabbit to recover items stolen from Toad. If Nabbit is nabbed, players receive a powerful P-Acorn, which will allow them to fly continuously through an entire stage. The only way to obtain a P-Acorn is to catch Nabbit.
Prediction: the final boss will be a giant Bowser like the last two NSMB games.
Lol no shit?
My point is that he doesn’t always have to be made giant by magic for the final boss fight. I remember his fight from the first Galaxy being pretty engaging and he wasn’t made giant.
The music will probably be the same too, just like the rest of the game.
Nah. Seeing as how they have a new main theme, they probably will have a bunch of new themes.
“new main theme”
But they all sound the same…
To a person with PS moves instead of ears , they will do..
key word: Sound. We don’t know anything until we play the game.
But I already played this game in 2008.
Err, 2009*.
gasp. time traveler?
The music is different unlike NSMB2.
The final boss music will also be the same as the last two games as well.
I will just be part of the off-chance, that it is a giant mutant Princess Peach that breaths fire.
That would be cool
im looking forward for this game it seems preety good
Wish I hadn’t blown $60 on beer.
Epic fail man!
u just keep going and going wish i haven’t spent it on fast food
why
i know right
MUST HAVE THIS GAME!!!!!!!!! Seriously, these new modes look like a blast with friends.
Why no online mode?
Lag in a platformer would be awful.
Because Nintendo hates online play.
yeah, lol THAT’S why..
does this game really need online play i mean it’s a 2d platform lol
Because it’d fucking suck. Half the fun of multiplayer in this game is having your friends in the room with you. It’s like Mario Kart online, it’s nowhere near as fun as local multiplayer because you can taunt or abuse your friends.
Sounds awesome, but still wondering if I should pay $60 for this..
NOV 18th here I come!!
Ok, I wasn’t thinking of getting this game, but this actually sounds interesting. Super Mario World kind of interesting. I loved that game, so maybe I should get it? We’ll see how it turns out.
Reblogged this on Drndark.
That’s nice and all, but I still don’t know if I can play as Mario and do Boost Mode on the Gamepad. Add or announce it already, Nintendo!
If you mean at the same time on the GamePad as only 1 player, No you cannot as it requires at least one other person playing with a wii remote. that would be cheating if you could do that :P
Challenge mode > Coin rush mode by the sounds of it! Making this game much more appealing to me (I’ve said in the past that the opposite was true; and yes I already own NSMB 2)
Ok I may now consider this game.
I can’t wait to play this game! Hopefully they back off the newer type of music that has been used in the New Super Mario series and go back to classic tunes. Preordered already…
screw the classic tunes. nintendo desperately needs new music in their games. i like the new theme :D
I’m getting this game on day 1 with AC3 and Zombiu :). I will be the judge of this game…. not IGN…
lol u right homie u be the judge not gamespot
Well seeing as how IGN is loving the game in it’s most recent preview, I doubt there will be much of a problem.
Yeh after that preview – I’m expecting 9/10 :)
Most likely. The full game would have to really bomb to not deliver at this point.
this should have ben new super mario bros 2 im diggin this
Yeah, this game is definitely shaping up to be much better than nsmb2, and just really great all around. The challenge mode sounds great, and coin challenge, nabbit, everything. It’s just got so much content.
this should hold us off til the next 3d mario universe
What is a world map going to do to make the game fun? I just want stages to be brutal
P-Acorn = Super P.
Doesn’t seem like they put a lot of effort in the game, but that’s just me.
Why do you say that?
Dang Nabbit
I hope they’ll allow player one to be someone BESIDES Mario. I get it, it’s a Mario game, but four characters go on the adventure, I wanna be Blue Toad!!
In the videos of the demos from E3, I saw little arrows around the player-one character selection. That suggests that you CAN select other characters.I’d play with Luigi or Yellow Toad \o/
This game will definitely be in the top 10 best Wii U launch titles.
This is looking to be the best NSMB game in the series. I want it.
This game sounds awesome.
