The very first review of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag has found its way online. The review is from French video game magazine Jeux Video who awarded the latest game in the popular franchise an impressive 18 out of 20. Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag was played on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and was praised for the wealth of content it includes. The publication even went so far to say that it’s the best Assassin’s Creed game to date. The roughly translated review concludes with the following:
“AC4 is the most successful game of the franchise. Better mechanics of gameplay, better level design, the game is a real success. You’ll need about 20 hours to complete the main path and 50 hours to complete everything.”

Same. AC 3 ruined the franchise for me. I’m not even hyped for IV. The gameplay looks fun, but after the mess of 3, I just lost all the love I had for that franchise. Add that to the fact that Ubisoft is releasing a new AC game every year… eh.
I’ll still play Black Flag, but I’m not really in a rush to do so. (Black Friday sale, anyone?)
Ac game every year is the biggest factor for me to not be hyped about them anymore.

Then there’s the quick travel sections they’ve added in, most will just use those instead of sailing everywhere.

20 hours is good for the campaign if you’re just doing story missions and nothing else (but really who does that?). The series has always offered a ton of other things to do which usually gives you a lot more gameplay out of it.
20 hours is just for the main adventure, which is generous. And the game will have loads of interesting side content.
Different genres have different appropriate lengths’ IE action games should last about 10-15 , Adventure games 20-30+ , RPG’ 40-80+
i can agree with you, to an extent.
this is to be next gen, we should expect a little more, but, this gen is going to go through some serious growing pains.
Maybe this will be my first ass creed game. 18/20 is pretty fantastic considering that this site pretty much never gives out nearly perfect scores.

im slightly disappointed the main story is only 20 hours, but still with the mechanics of jumping off the jackdaw to go explore at any given moment im sure it will take me until the end of the year to even get close to the end of the main story!

20 hours to complete? Our Animal Crossing 4 takes over 300 hours to complete, and even then, you’ll have alot more fun afterwards as well.

Pretty sure all games take time to play, so it’s not an invalid argument. the point is that you’re playing it, still having fun, and still doing new things.
Animal Crossing doesn’t end. It’s a completely different type of game. Why would you compare the two?
