Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime believes that third party developers haven’t given up on the Wii U, despite dwindling support from big name publishers. With a number of key titles missing from the Wii U lineup, it’s certainly interesting to hear Reggie’s perspective on things, especially with regards to Call of Duty Ghosts which sold poorly on the platform.
“With a healthy and vibrant installed base, those key publishers are gonna create content that are going to be wonderful for the system. Case in point: Activision. One of the number one rated games [recently] on the Wii U is Skylander SWAP Force. They’ve done a stellar job creating that content. And absolutely we look forward to Call of Duty coming on the platform. A true Call of Duty experience, leveraging unique play with the GamePad. You look at someone like Ubisoft. They do tremendous business with Just Dance on our platform. And we look forward to Assassin’s Creed, we look forward to Watchdogs next year coming on the platform. Warner Brothers… I could go through the list in terms of key software publishers that are making great content for the platform. And what they tell me every day is, “Reggie, how can I help you drive your installed base?”

regie thinks a lot nowadays….
The time for convincing publishers and developers to support Wii U has long passed,Reggie…
Minds can always be changed.
This isn’t something as set as sexual preference.
that’s true…and I hope they can put aside their defenses of the past foolishness to make a great gaming years to come.
Wishful thinking..haha
LOLOL he smokes weed
I don’t know about this one Reggie. Let’s wait until after 2014.
By the End of 2014 The Future of the Wii U Will Be Clear.Hope its not a Bad Future.
I do believe that many third-party developers will come to the Wii U, as long as Nintendo makes sure there are NO excuses for EA, Bethesda, or Bungie, and others that don’t develop titles for Wii U to use when asked why.
I do believe that many third-party developers will come to the Wii U, as long as Nintendo makes sure there are NO excuses for EA, Bethesda, or Bungie, and others that don’t develop titles for Wii U to use when asked why.
They ran out of excuses.
Now they can ride the only real excuse, low install base.
Depending on how PS4 and XBOne fares for the next 6 months.
Bungie never said they don’t want to develop for Wii U. Bungie are actually Nintendo fans. You are referring to Destiny, which is Activisions choice to put it on Wii U or not
Actually Bungie’s contract is VERY liberal. They have near full control over waht platforms their game end up on and what they can and cannot do. The only reason they were able to secure such a deal is because of what they did with Halo (which kind of put Xbox and Xbox 360 on the map). The simple fact is I almost guarantee Bungie wanted to stay away from the Wii U because Nintendo would never give them the infrastructure they need to support the game, and the Wii U’s online is still pretty bad.
Excuse my insolence Lord Reggienator but I wouldn’t call it 100% support when they skip online features or other features from the Wii U version…
The next time they ask “Reggie, how can I help drive your install base?”
He needs to tell them that.
Agreed…
Like he should use our empire’s holy motto:
Get N or get OUT!
Or the new motto. Why do we play 3DS? Because its Nintendo. We should just use the motto, Because its Nintendo from now on. 3rd party asks why should we put our game on Wii U? Because its Nintendo. Then they reply back saying MY GOD…your right…how did we not see that. you got a deal.
“Yeah… It’s Nintendo? That’s great! Now make a half-decent platform for us to develop for!”
They did, it’s called Wii U
He said half decent, not underwhelming.
They’ve done a stellar job creating that content.
And we don’t care about Electron garbage either…
Eh, I doubt that the third party is going to be so helpful after this holiday season. I didn’t buy a Wii U to play Skylanders. I want third party content like Kingdom Hearts III, The Division, Metal Gear Solid V, and Destiny not Skylanders and Just Dance.
Agreed. No one wants Skylanders, it just soaks up your money.
I have no problem with Skylanders or Infinity but those games just aren’t for me really.I might try them at a friends house but for right now I would rather play MGSV, KHIII, Destiny, and The Division.
The reason that Diablo 3 did not came to wiiu it was just to not screw the 360 and ps3 version cuz the only version that could actually had a proper console version is wiiu. Not even the ps4 could get the superior version with all his power.
Definitely Kingdom Hearts.
I want a competently made Kingdom Hearts. Oh wait, it’s from Square, competence is asking too much of them.
Then tell the 3rd party developers to develop for the console then.
How on earth is saying “Eh, I doubt that the third party is going to be so helpful after this holiday” helping anyone!?
Once the developers start doing stuff for Wii U, then we should see sales climb. I really want some good titles. I only have 7 titles to play right now since launch – that’s terrible in terms of me wanting to play games on my Wii U. I want new stuff!
I have bought a ton of third party games. I signed several online petitions to bring Kingdom Hearts III to Wii U. I have massively supported the third party. I have bought Batman Arkham Origins, Batman Arkham City: Armored Edition, Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor’s Edge, Assassin’s Creed III, Assassin’s Creed IV, Splinter Cell Blacklist, Rayman Legends, Sonic Lost World, The Wonderful 101, ZombiU, Call of Duty Black Ops II, Call of Duty Ghosts, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Darksiders II,Injustice: Gods Among Us, a ton of indie games, and have Watch_Dogs on pre-order. I also plan on buying Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director’s Cut, Mass Effect 3, Pac-Man, Tekken, and Ken’s Fury. Care to tell me how I’m not helping the cause for third party games on Wii U?
This is how you support. Well done sir. Wish I had the money to get this stuff. I got the arkhams and the cods and injustice. Seriously all we get scred on is dlc and honestly that is never a deal breaker for me.
Well Tyler that is very supportive of you! Kudos to you sir! :) One game I have recently got that I am enjoying is Edge.
:O *stands up and claps*… you sir are amazing
and people say there are no games on wii u, this comment proves otherwise
So what you’re saying, is you bought 16 of the 20 third-party titles available already? That amounts to 1 third party title every 3.5 weeks since the system launched, and about half of them were available a year or so before the Wii U even came out. Third Party Support, the Wii U has none.
I hope he is not leaving it to faith only.
He should be hard working on it.
Was it 7th Dec. when they were supposed to announce something?
He can believe it, but Nintendo needs to invite third party developers to make games
POOR REGGIE SOMETIMES I FEEL BAD FOR HIM. HE ALWAYS GOT A BIG MOUTH
The man is living in a fantasy world.
Anything is Possible.
Please stop!!!
Nintendo needs to buy Capcom and sega, make a Gamepad Mini, and make a Metroid and a Starfox and everything will be okay for Big N.
You cant just Walk in a Company and Buy it! Its not for Sale! And Gamepad Mini!? Some are actually People are complaining that its not big enough,And How Would You Even See on a “Gamepad Mini” Screen? It would be bigger than the iphone by a bit. And StarFox and Metroid are not System Sellers!
Maybe not sega but Capcom’s for sale. Metroid is a bigger system seller than Pikmin and Kirby. Starfox is bigger than punch out and kid icarus. Iphone screen isnt big enough for you?
They should just retcon all this Gamecube+ crap with the Wii U and make new Nintendo games using classic arcade gameplay. Y’know the stuff that made the original Wii so popular in the first place.
The stuff that made the original Wii so popular was a super low price point and gimmicks.
he thinks a few devs making wiiu games is good enough. no no, he needs to try harder to bring every dev to the wiiu. if big games like gtav are skipping the console then more efforts need to be put in. they need to start thinking outside of the box for once.
Yes,Agreed,They Should Try Harder With Third Party Developers,I Actually wanted GTA V on Wii U.
I think Nintendo try with gta5 but rockstar plainly said no.
he is being delusional like always and the 3rd party developers, they are not coming to the wii U you(nintendo) needs to bring them to the wii U. show them why they should develop for the wii U not wait until they change their minds because they wont. delusional like always reggie, people like you and iwata made the nintendo brand a joke to the gaming industry.
No,Once the Console Starts Selling,Games Will Come To it. More Console Sale= More Third Party Games.
Luis wrote:
“show them why they should develop for the wii U not wait until they change their minds because they wont.”
No, simply no. Developers need to actually think what they can develop for the console and put everything to good use. Why should Nintendo have to do all the hard work? Yes they have to sell their system somehow, but that’s not the point.
The point is, EA and all that need to see that they need to change their ways of designing games. PS4 and X1 have similar set ups. Why should we, I repeat WHY should we not get good games for? It’s unfair!!!
They are not similar setups. The Wii U uses a Tri-Core PPC CPU (clocked at a snails pace) and the X1 and PS4 use AMD x86-based Octo-Core CPU’s. That means the new consoles from Sony\MS have 2.67x as many actual CPU cores, and are clocked almost 3x as high. That’s a massive performance difference.
On top of that, PPC and x86 use completely differnet instruction sets which means games can’t just be swapped back and fourth, you need to completely remake the game from the ground up to support either set of hardware. That means in this generation the Nintendo Hardware is the only one using PowerPC, which does not bode well for them.
Then there’s the GPU, the Wii U uses an AMD HD5000-based solution (likely a derivation of the HD5770), where as the PS4 uses an AMD HD7850, and the X1 uses an AMD HD7750 (with some bells and whistles here and there. The MS/Sony offerings are 2 generations ahead, and something like 80% more powerful–which is a lot.
Then there’s the RAM, Wii U only has 2GB, and PS4 and X1 have 8GB in various setups–about 5-7GB usable by games on both platforms.
At the end of the day, you’re asking developers to develop the same games, on much weaker hardware, using a completely different CPU setup. It’s just not going to happen.
He can’t really assume alot of games are going to have success with driving the WiiU to success. Sure the WiiU can’t “do everything” like the XBox One and PS4, but in terms of technology, the WiiU isn’t exactly up to par. Plus, there are VERY FEW games that incorporate the gamepads usefulness. The thing is that people anymore don’t truly appreciate the classic game systems. To be honest, most of the nintendo game fan base is primarily Old School Game enthusiasts and young children (ages 4-13) who like these toony characters. But if Nintendo wants the WiiU to truly “WOW” people, the system needs to do better with incorporating the gamepad (in other words, they need to treat it as a unique way to help out the game experience in more ways rather than having be used as a portable game attachment or some sort of “equipment store”), try to incorporate some of the rarely seen franchises, add an online multiplayer experience for games that can use it, and try to encourage companies and prove to them that the WiiU is capable of success.
Then again, the other thing that doesn’t help is that they are pushing the 3DS more than the WiiU (Heck, within the time that the WiiU has been out, they’ve upgraded the 3DS and created three different versions (yes this include the 2DS). If they would’ve focused on upgrading the WiiU and figuring out how to improve the quality of the WiiU, the WiiU would be doing more decently with sales and advertisement. The only thing helping to boost the sales currently is Nintendo’s Flagship Franchises (Mario and Legend of Zelda) and Ubisoft’s WiiU versions of Rayman Legends and Just Dance.
“the WiiU isn’t exactly up to par”
Tell me what are the reasons for your logic? Didn’t you know that Wii U is just as powerful as PS4? The old megahertz myth kicks in here.
Don’t be fooled by the Cores and Ghz – they don’t mean a lot these days. It’s all about what the hardware can do and how you use it correctly. We already know Wii U was designed with code efficiency in mind.
“Wii U is just as powerful as PS4”
lmaooooooooooo
Shut up, Wii U weirdo. You’re head must be up Pizza Man’s ass, you’re probably one of the idiots who thinks Wii u holds its value against the two next-gen consoles.
Hey idiot, Cores and Ghz do mean a lot, ask any pc gamer or enthusiast. Not to mention the WiiU only has 2gigs of DDR3 RAM(antique) compared to 8gigs of GDDR5 RAM on the PS4.
Stop being a Nintendrone.
Nintendo tried to skimp out on hardware hoping for success like they had with the Wii and now they’re paying for it.
You guys do remember that the Wii U premium was $350 at launch, compare that to the PS4 at $399 with 4x times better/faster hardware and more third party support.
This is what Nintendo gets for being cheap.
I got my Wii U 2 days before launch, and all I use it for now is just the Internet app, which is awesome. That’s it.
This man speaks the truth!!
Except Wii U is a games console not a PC you fucking idiot!
Man I thought people here were smart, but clearly not. Also Wii U is just as powerful. GHz in a console are not as nearly as important as it’s architecture.
One thing I do know is that I will be playing some incredible 3D World and Zelda U when it is out whilst your playing your shitty CoD!
And no I am not a drone, I am just an experienced gamer who understands the games industry more than you numb skulls!
The PS4 and Xbox One are objectively more powerful than the Wii U. if you deny this YOU’RE the one who doesn’t know anything about the Wii U’s hardware.
“Power” is the only excuse why those so called “powerful consoles” are selling now since morons of today are only buying consoles for that sole reason and yet, I hardly see any good games for those platforms in sight while Wii U starting to dish out more interesting software and know what to expect next year.
If Wii U’s specs are truly similar to PS3/360, why the fuck is the third party complaining if they’re more than familiar with its architecture which means porting shouldn’t be much of a problem? The real truth of this Wii U dilemma is that they’re pulling off the “Wii” nonsense all over again complaining of weak hardware without even trying much of it. In short: 3RD PARTY LAZINESS. Nothing more or less.
I know far more about hardware than you do. Did you forget that Espresso has a 4 stage pipeline so it can knock code out far quicker than a 1970s relic x86!
I’ve read more about Wii U’s hardware than you moron!!!
It’s not all about hardware and power thicko!
No ….. No ….. Caterpie think you are a drone. In fact, Caterpie know you are drone.
Do you even know anything about Wii U’s hardware? A 1.24Ghz PowerPC OOE is very powerful and crickey it’s fast!
Yes, Wii U is very powerful, but the PS4 is 3-4 times more powerful than the Wii U.
yeah 1.24Ghz is more like 2Ghz of a PC processor. RISC processors have always been known to perform much more then the clock cycles may lead people to believe. That’s why Macs when they used them tend to run much faster than the PC counterparts with both clocks being equal.
Didn’t think about that at first but you are right. Plus it’s all about the transistor count as well as higher clocks don’t always mean its faster as the more transistors in the processor means it can handle more data at a time. So it is very possible for a higher clock processor to perform worse than a lower clocked one.
In the end though the AMD processor is fast but the Wii-U processor is certainly no slouch and if Nintendo would’ve just added a couple more gigs of ram and up’d the graphics card a bit more Nintendo would certainly be able to contend with PS4 and X-Box One.
Oh Reggie, thanks for pointing out what we already know. That when 3rd party devs make good games i.e. Swap Force and Dance party…they sell. And you can keep waiting for COD to come to the platform without being gimped…aint gonna happen. But honestly, I buy Nintendo consoles for 1st party.
the mistake with the wii u is that they dont have a unique game that use the gamepad in its totally at launch like the wii have the wii sport if they dont have a game in production that use the gamepad since the beginning why they realease with gamepad in the first place.
They actually had a unique game at launch: Nintendo land. That was supposed to be like Wii sports, to bring family together and to let people play all these mini games. The game is designed perfectly, but it just didn’t interest people.
Nintendo Land sucked and its coming from a Wii U owner and 20 year Nintendo fan.
Its not even close to comparable as Wii Sports which demonstrated the Wii Remote very perfectly. All Nintendo Land did was stream the game into the Gamepad and use the accelerometer. That’s it. ZombiU actually did a hell of a lot more with the Gamepad use.
The more I hear him talk, the more I think he’s got an awesome dealer……….
The only way I think third party developers will come to Wii U would be if Nintendo buy all the mayor third party studios, Capcom, Ubisoft, Squere Enix, Konami and Namco, Sega is already a good partner, they just need for EA to go bankrupt after the win for third consecutive year the golden poo.
They need to come out with some original material instead of releasing sequels that for it, but leaving the prequels out. I’m not going to buy a sequal to a franchise if I can’t play the prequel.
Oh Reggie Pizza-Meh… NO THEY FUCKING WON’T! If you want third-party support, how about your company actually release a console that is worth the developers time and effort.
Even if third-party support comes to the Wii U, the Nintendo fagboys won’t buy the games. Maybe they would if a Mario face was plastered on the box.
Basically NoA can’t be arsed…
Reggie is a idiot, most PS4 & X1 games are x86 the WiiU is not a x86 machine, the ports won’t work, nobody will bother investing the time & money to port or convert games to the WiiU.
I can think of a few companies that will port games to Wii U. Capcom is surely one of them.
Then how the Xbox 360 and ps3 got those ports too? Wiiu is closer to xbone and ps4 than 360 and ps3.
And right you are too. It’s almost pointless putting 360 into Wii U as you’ll get frame rate issues unless you put the eDRAM on the GPGPU to good use.
Pingback: Reggie believes third party developers will come to Wii U
Wiiu will never get zero third party. It will always hare someone willing to risk to make money the problems with wary games are taking the risks. I wish activision got the balls to atleast try with destiny but we all know if that game came to wiiu Sony and Microsoft would lose tons of cash.
Nintendo should’ve bought Atlus. That is all.
they can still buy sega :)
That would be amazing, but Sega is still up and going so I don’t see that happening.
Gotta hand it to Nintendo, no matter how much others shit on them, they always keep it clean and classy. Even with all the negativity, they never throw blame on anyone but themselves.
Reblogged this on Curiosidades na internet.
Call of Duty is really good on the Wii U, but one thing that sucks really bad that every console has but the Wii U, DLC. Assasin’s Creed the same, no DLC on Wii U. Batman Arkaham Origin has DLC, but no Multiplayer. If you start a game, you might as well finish it.
I would be very happy if Destiny came to Wii U.
Only way Nintendo gets more games on Wii U is if they but third party companies like Sega, Konami, Capcom, Square Enix, Namco, and Tecmo.
when they finally realize that the core audience for the other boxes are mainly Sports & first person shooters they will fly back to wii u to make it unique games
Well then, you better make those third party developers feel right at home. It’s rude to invite guests and not give them proper hospitality and thus make only yourself the life of the party.
Good analogy.
Oh Reggie. I’m having a hard time believing anything you say these days. The problem with the Wii U is that most gamers nowadays have been brainwashed by CRAP games and consoles like the Playstation and Xbox. It’s truly a sad generation of gamers today. Nobody is happy without blood, gore, violence, crime and sex. It’s SICK!
No wonder there’s so many shootings and things going on in the world today. I’m willing to bet that every person that shot someone in schools etc. were Playstation and Xbox fans/owners. Because that’s not the kind of thing that most Nintendo gamers would do. Nintendo is the good, decent, down-to-earth company. And true, old-school Nintendo gamers usually reflect the same good, decent, down-to-earth qualities.
I bet The Nintendo Commander would agree with me.
Caterpie thinks you’re pretty fucked up.
You’re probably an Xbox or Playstation fan.
Go back to masturbating to your Kinect 2.0 while NSA is obviously watching your free show.
Actually that’s ONE moron…. Not all Nintendo fans are violent… Xbox Fanboys are far more violent, because I remember almost getting beaten up by an Xbox Gamer for saying that Halo was overrated even though I like Halo 3 (Not Halo 4 and the others, they were horrible). Lucky, police came and pulled him off me.
I got away with just a massive bruise to the leg and a broken wrist. He was strong for a fat fucker.
What the hell are you talking about, MrRetroJunkie. You think PlayStation and Xbox make peopel commit real life shootings? You’ve been watching too much FOX news.
PlayStation consoles are great and you would probably enjoy them if you gave them a chance and weren’t a close minded asshole.
I hope Nintendo Commander wouldn’t agree with you because he’s actually a normal, sane person.
Nintendo Commander usually shares all of my same view points. There’s only been a couple times when he said something I felt differently about.
And the reason I say bad things about consoles such as the Playstation etc. is because of games like Grand Theft Auto (and other games involving shooting people and stuff). People that are already mentally disturbed in the head probably plays these kind of games, and it goes to their head and makes them think it’s fun to shoot people. Just like if they watch violent tv shows or movies.
I know that Nintendo has SOME violent games on their consoles as well (probably all third party). But not nearly as much as what’s on Xbox and Playstation consoles.
And why do you keep calling me by my old user name? What’s the point?
Exactly… Third-Party… Most of Sony’s first-party games like Sly Cooper, LittleBigPlanet, Jak and Daxter, Journey, Sly Cooper, inFamous, ModNation Racers feature very little or none over top violence. The few that do like The Last of Us have context.

The irony is MrRetroJunkie (He-Man Fan) is a mentally disturbed sociopath.
If I was, I’d be in jail or coming after you. I’m a surprisingly nice person in reality. I just have harsh, critical opinions.
@Mama Luigi,
Maybe a LITTLE over the top. But I always have believed that the Nintendo fans was the nicer, more down-to-earth gamers. Ever since I was a kid I believed that
give me metal gear solid V ground zeroes and phantom pain, kingdom hearts 3, and a new mature nintendo game…
“And absolutely we look forward to Call of Duty coming on the platform.” Reggie go home, your drunk. The only 3rd party game we want is DESTINY.
Destiny on Wii U… Not likely.
In saying that… how do you know? Seeing how Activision likes money its pretty likely we’ll see Destiny on Wii U next year
All i really want is Watch Dogs. That’s it. If they get more 3rd party good for them if not big deal. SM3D World was no. 2 best selling exclusive losing to Zelda. Everything above was a multiplat.
Personally i’m getting tired of the same fps with a different tittle. All i get is pow pow pow. The screen represents what the character sees. A map displayed at corner bottom left. Press start to change weapon. Aim for the head. Yawn. Aimmo is on the ground or setting on a table. When you kill you get money and you can buy a better gun. “yawn”. Just add better graphics and a different map and call it the same tittle but add a number behind it. Halo, COD, ACreed, GTA. Just add numbers behind those tittles.
So instead of running away from FPS being the same old thing, why not make a Nintendo FPS making it BETTER than the status quo? That’s what Nintendo used to do. Take what other companies were doing and do it BETTER. That is TRUE innovation and creativity.
I want more than just Assassin’s Creed, COD, Just Dance & Skylanders. I want Destiny, The Division, The Crew etc. ( I have a PS4 & PC for those) I’d buy them on Wii U..
Pingback: » Reggie sostiene que las Third-parties apoyarán a Wii Und-games.com
Reggie said all this stuff 3 years ago and Nintendo has less 3rd party support than ever.
I want to trust Reggie, but I’m not seeing any third party support other than ports. I want to see Destiny and Dark Souls 2, PS3 and X360 have them, why can WiiU can’t?
But at the same time, Reggie, Iwata (and the head of NoE, sorry, I don’t know his name) need to step up their game. We have a so-so 2013 year for WiiU, some good games, bad release dates. They don’t market WiiU properly (we had one to show the difference between Wii and WiiU for fuck sake!), I don’t know what games other than Watch Dogs and Donkey Kong will release on 2014.
Yeah, WiiU it’s not on par with PS4 and Xbox One in the tech field (Nintendo opted to developed a new controller rather than go full tech, which I like), but I can still see third party’s are developing for last-gen consoles. Why? I don’t know.
The only excuse (kinda true) is that there’s not a big install base on WiiU…Do you know whos fault is? Nintendo.
So, sorry, I want to believe in Reggie, but after I don’t start seeing true third party support, I won’t settle for Just Dance and half-assed ports.
In the end, it just might not work out since it’s more expensive to work something out on the Gamepad than one a more standard controller like the XBone (I just love calling it that). That’s the main excuse certain Third Party developers have when it comes to evading the Wii U. It’s just the Wii Remote situation all over again.
*on
I’m tired of mss and even sonys take on videogameconsoles tbh. All this cool dudebro male twengamer marketing. I don’t even want achievements. I’m loving Miiverse though -but overall i just want to play games. Good ones. If Nintendo could manage to bring games like DarkSouls2, Evil Within, Destiny, older ports like Bioshock, Bayonetta1, Dishonored, Tomb raider to the Wiiu, combined with Nintendos first party, all implemented into the fantastic Miiverse, off tv play enabled. THIS would be the definition of my perfect entertainment system….like….ever.
as long as those games are on PS3 and Xbox 360, it will not get people get wiiu, the reason is because ps3 and xbox 360 been out for long time already and people got those consoles already.
