Xenoblade Chronicles X Video Showcase Details Western Location Names, Plus Dolls Renamed To Skells

Nintendo of America’s Xenoblade Chronicles X video showcase – which was streamed live earlier – revealed some new footage and a few localisation changes today. Though it didn’t unveil a western release date, nor confirm the speculated May 31 release date, it granted fans the opportunity to learn more about the vast world of Mira and its locations.

With five areas in the upcoming action RPG for Wii U, there is plenty to explore. And while you’ll find your feet in New Los Angeles, fans will be able to get a feel for the first area named Primordia with its lush greenery. Other continents include the luminous plant-filled area of Noctilum, the giant desert Oblivia, the dry twilight area of Sylvalum and the harsh volcanic land of Cauldros.

But while Xenoblade Chronicles X will feature mech suits known as Dolls in Japan, Nintendo and Monolith Soft has renamed these handy exoskeleton suits to Skells in the western version.  If you missed any of the footage shown during the showcase, make sure you view the embedded video above. Xenoblade Chronicles X is due for release in North America and Europe at some point in 2015.

  1. Skells lol sounds pretty retarded lol, this game is definitely going to get owned by FF15,both in sales and in reviews lol, this game is going to flop just like W101,BAYONETTA 2,AND SPLATOON.

    1. Sales for sure, but not reviews. Splatoon isn’t even out yet but I agree. Skells sounds better than dolls though, should of just called them suits imo.

          1. i did and not official sales are reported, so nice try! The infamous has vgchartz has 660k, while sure they are 100% they are ballpark numbers. So once again not near 1 million. Next time you “look” it up before making a ass of your self.

    2. it will rape FF in reviews and depth and gameplay in every area not sales as sony fans are fucking retarded

      1. Nah it will, XCX will probably get a slightly higher review because everyone has complaints about a new FF game, let’s be honest guys, Sony’s doing a lot better, so stop starting fights -.-

    3. Yeah, I remember people complaining that the name dolls was pretty dumb, but skells is so much worse. I can see what they were going for, sort of like a shortened version of “exoskeleton” but it just doesn’t sound good when it’s shortened, exoskeleton would have been a fine name but shortening it the way they did was dumb. Why didn’t they call them something like X-suits, sure not a perfect name but a hell of a lot better and goes with the title of the game.

    4. You go to a site about nintendo games and you are so negative. Clearly you’re not a fan. Why waste your time here? I mean there are lots of things people don’t care for. It doesn’t mean they go to websites about them to bash them. Why??

    5. Of course FF15 wil sold well than xenoblade cuz it will be released for both Xbox and PS4, but in reviews I’m not quite sure. Well, I really hope FF15 would be good but for now it did not convince me yet. I hope they will release more footage/gameplay to prove that. Bayonetta 2 flop? Hmmm not really. But anyway, I will buy both Xenoblade and FF15. For me, FF15 and Xenoblade has their own charm and not relevant be compared with each other.

  2. Wow… I don’t think I’ve ever been this stoked for a game. Cept maybe when Pikmin 2 was announced. But still- it’s been a long time since I’m been this psyched.

  3. I’m not surprised at all that a release date wasn’t announced seeing at that Nintendo would probably like to do at E3. Whatever the case I’m still looking forward to it but still I was hoping for at least a release month….welp….oh well I guess

  4. So they just showed us the same thing except in English..

I’m still not convinced this game is coming out in 2015 in the West. Why would they not give us a release date unless the localization wasnt close to being finished.

I do not want to watch anymore spoiler videos. Just give us a god damned release date. Monolith has really pissed me off with the way they are marketing Xenoblade X…

    1. Pretty soon all the Japan walkthroughs of X will be posted on youtube, so it makes these live streams kind of silly. Thats the problem with these type of staggered release dates. Monolith will be trying to market the game in the west with previews and live streams, but at any given time you could just go to Youtube and literally watch a walkthrough of the entire game…

I hate Monolith for not making X have a worldwide simultaneous release… They will learn the hard way this is no way to release such a high caliber AAA game..

      1. I understand and kinda agree with your points, but honestly I don’t see who would watch a walkthrough of this kinda game before playing at least some of it themselves ya know? But you are right I think a simultaneous release would have been optimal given how people just love spoiling things for themselves and others.

        1. Well, I think alot of people who are on the fence about this game, and maybe never played the first game might just decide to watch a walkthrough instead of buying the game. And there are alot of people on the fence. And also you know how trolls are. They will go to forums and spoil the story just to be a troll. When the game releases in Japan I will probably avoid forums all together, including this one… And it’s all MONOLITHS FAULT!

          1. I guess, but I feel we can’t say a company shouldn’t try to police or change up what they do to be family friendly on one hand then say they should change what they do to stop trolls on the other.

At the end of the day it’s people’s choice to spoil themselves or to look these things up when they shouldn’t just the same as it’s the parent’s job to watch and be informed of what their kids play and the environment of the online game they’re gonna play.

These aren’t new things that just Monolith should know, we should too. But yeah I understand people on the fence, but I have very little sympathy for them if they can’t watch the directs and presentations to find out if they’ll like the game or not when games like The Order 1886, Watch_Dogs, Duke Nukem, and so on do not give you nearly this much stuff to watch or opportunities to learn about a new game. If you can drop 60 buckeroonies for those then you can take a chance with a game that has given over a collective hour’s worth of information about.

            1. I just don’t see any positives from releasing X a few months early in Japan.(I hope it’s just a few months early and not six!) Ok, maybe they can get some income rolling in a little sooner from the Japanese fans, but is it worth it? Is that early income worth the story spoilers and risk of people not buying the game in the West? I say no, it’s not worth it. All their going to do is lower Western sales. Obviously Monolith thinks differently… But like I said on several different posts, this type of release is outdated, and they will learn the hard way that it’s the wrong way to release such a popular game.

              1. Well perhaps the benefits they see and are more fully aware of are not visible to the common man such as us. Or maybe it’s really silly of them. But I can’t say it’s completely without merit. The Japanese may be the target demographic and while we may be hopeful add-ons, and they feel it’s best to grab certain money rather than potentially loosing it to iffy money. I mean they have to change quite a bit in these kinds of games to become more palatable for Western sensibilities as is, and I doubt any gaming company would want to sit on a completed product while working on another version of it that may make money and still wind them up in the hole for itself and the original.

The Western version of the game may simply require a lot of back and forth changing of names and costume editing that would make a world wide simultaneous release more damaging than beneficial. I mean Nintendo had no problem with releasing the Wii U and Smash Bros U, to the West First, so I doubt they are interested in short changing us if at all possible.

As I said, gamers have to take some responsibility and just not spoil themselves. We’ve had releases like this for years and it has yet to be the end of the world, even with very popular or highly anticipated games. And let’s be honest, Final Fantasy vesu- uh XV is by in large, far more anticipated because the name brand is bigger and its history is longer. XCX is equal if not greater to that to us because we keep ourselves informed and are of he crowd to be into XCX, but there’s likely a greater audience that is “meh” about it.

  5. Its coming sooner than June/July (where the Yoshi Yarn for US would have gone) and sooner than September for Europe?

Makes me wonder what they have planned for fall and summer?

    1. I was kinda expecting them to yeah. But eh. I just find it more depressing they renamed the dolls to skells cause it feels like they did that to satisfy those who get easily embarrassed by saying they’re playing with dolls when if they don’t like calling it that they could just call them mechs… Oh well whatever small lil gripes.

  6. dolls sounds better…skells sounds like some random shitty name so people dont have to ride in something called a doll… :/

  7. Skells is very random. I mean why not just call them Zoats, or Bopes? How about Skots or Murps? Yikes or Bilms?

Skells is a stupid name. They are dolls, and dolls is what Im going to call them.. That or Mechs..Not Skell..ffs

  8. Skells? Exo”Skell”etons? They came up with that for Westerners? Dolls was already a name for mechs and mobile suits some of us were familiar with. We were all calling them mechs and suits too anyway. But wait and see. We’re all going to get used to calling them Skells eventually. I wonder how long the deliberation for the name took. Hell, I wonder how the whole discussion proceeded.

  9. I find the woman’s voice very boring and mono.. it really makes me feel uninspired to even join in this fight

  10. Ridley, the Angel of Death

Bleh! I prefer dolls over skells. Sure, I can still call them by their original name, but it just won’t have the same feel as I call them dolls while the game itself is calling them by the name that makes the insecure gamers in the US feel better about talking about this game to their more brodude gamer buddies. “Yay! When I talk to my friends about this game, I can call them skells instead of that girly name doll & they won’t laugh at me! Fitting in is awesome!” *rolls eyes*
