It’s that time of the month folks as we’ve now received official video game sales information from the NPD Group. It was a slow January due to a lack of new releases, but LEGO Marvel Avengers made it in the top ten at number nine. The Wii U version of the game was the fourth best selling version selling more than the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation 3 versions. Talking of the PlayStation it was the PlayStation 4 that was the best-selling system last month in the United States. Anyway, here’s the best-selling games!

Are there any major 1st Party releases for a Nintendo System from now until Starfox Zero’s planned release date?

Umm… I still do that with Nintendo. Otherwise I’d have a PS4 for KH3 already.
My taste is so so so different. I had one call of duty game in my whole life. I did buy fallout 4 though for the ps4. Nice game. But I never bought a sports game except mario hoops 3 on 3 which was a blast. FIFA… NFL… Those games being in the top 10 every week of the year. Just makes me sick. Because it really just is the same. Mario bros changes. And we do not get one every year. The GameCube did not even have a mario bros.
Nds had one. Wii had one. 3ds has one. Wii U (if you include dlc(super Luigi U) and mario maker) has 3… That’s 6 in like the last 15 years(including the gba and GameCube since they did not get a mario bros.)…
And mario bros changes. NFL FIFA just stay the same. Call if duty is at least different. You can tell you are playing a different version. New maps. Gives you a new game environment. But sport games… I play all kinds of games. My 3ds games:

But people go out and only but gta FIFA and call of duty every year.
Just received my copy of paper mario the thousand year door. Playing old games… I find video game taste in a lot of people ruins ruined :/

Just because you don’t like them, doesn’t mean others have to fit with your choices. I don’t like a large part of your listed titles, and I consider myself a traditional gamer. We also don’t even have the option of sports games on the U, I would prefer to have it than not to.
Also, there are roster changes and extremely subtle changes to the sports games, so it’s worth it for that market. Call of Duty is a regurgitation every year. And IMO Mario hasn’t changed much in the last few years, hence why I haven’t bothered with the U releases.
Either way to each his own, that’s why we have choices and there’s no need to ridicule an alternative one.

That’s pretty sad if it is. It’s just a sandbox title. I would say the Mario 64 was the most innovative in the series.
I always thought galaxy was more innovative than m64. but yeah, opinions man. I do think maker is more than just a sandbox game though, with it having basically what is it’s own social network where you can share and rate levels, and then event courses always being added I really do think it’s the best title in the series.
I repeat again, that’s pretty sad. A social network within a title measures it’s worth? Terrible way to look at something that’s completely unrelated to actual gameplay.
I think it’s pretty neat that I can browse around an infinite amount of mario levels while i’m at work, bookmark the cool looking ones, and play them later when I get home. I think it’s fun to try to speed run levels and get a world record. I think it’s really cool being able to build my own levels and get rated for it. As for gameplay, it’s just the classic gameplay of any 2d mario platformer, so that just speaks for itself, i’ve enjoyed it since I was 5 years old. So IN MY OPINION it’s the best mario game made so far, and IN YOUR OPINION that’s just sad lol
What can you change in a sports game? They have teams, a roster and rules. You can really only change the A.I. and the mechanics and the rosters and teams like LA Rams moved. Sports are different from other games. You can change how metroid is played because their are no rules to metriod. Call of Duty can change but to change it they may lose some fans and gain some.
Yep there is not a lot to change. But why is the top 5 best selling gave every year. It is the same. Sold more than witcher 3

More people are into sports games. I use to buy a Madden for all home consoles and PC until they stopped PC and then stopped on Wii U.
I just do not think that Madden FIFA are nearly as good as the sales suggest.
The games are fun. I buy a variety of games but none are better than the other. They all provide me with joy and fun. People play what they like. My brother in law use to buy a variety of games but now all he likes is MLB the Show, FIFA, and Madden. I played sports and so did my brother in law so we enjoy sports games a lot. Our dreams may not have come true with each of us having a chance to play professionally but we chose family over personal gains. Sports games are also easy for people to pick up and play. Not really a learning curve. You understand sports then you understand the games.

I think it is time for NPD to have a top 15 or 20. Every NPD top 10 looks the same minus a couple of games. No way to tell if an exclusive game was successful with just this information. Multiplatform games will always be near or at the top.

With this set up, it’s unfair to certain games because then they don’t get any publicity for being on the list even when they did better than certain ports of the same exact game.*~
