In 2013, The Witness game developer Jonathan Blow advised that the title may eventually come to the Wii U, however in a recent exchange of Tweets it appears that this may no longer be the case.
A Twitter user asked the developer whether he would consider importing the title to the Wii U, and he replied with “It is unlikely that we could do it on the Wii U but we will see about the next Nintendo console.”

So, the game isn’t completely off the cards for a Nintendo console, just probably not the Wii U, and only time will tell if it will be made available on the NX.

I feel like Nintendo killed any potential the Wii U had by announcing the NX. The reply about his game seems to be quite common with other developers regarding Wii U development. I know Nintendo starts working on their next console right after they complete their current console, but Nintendo announced it way too prematurely.

This game is really pretty, and has cool puzzles. It is way too expensive though 40$ really? It could run on the Wii U though, so i think the Dev just wants to wait for the NX because the Wii U isnt selling that well.
Yay another lazy developer. If it does come to the NX please be smart and make it $4.99. Nobody is going to buy your year old indie game for full price.
The Witness on Wii U? lol let’s be honest here, there’s a reason why the Wii U is nicknamed the “Weak U”. Judging from the trailer, that game requires a significant amount of graphical power to run despite it not having a more realistic art style. You’ll be wasting your time to ask for this. If Nintendo doesn’t screw over its consoles again for the last 3-4 generations, hope for it on NX.

Xenoblade X is optimized really good to work on the Wii U. Considering the Wii U’s hardware and how big the game is, it is indeed impressive. Obviously it had to get many compromises for it to work that way though. Xenoblade X is not exactly graphically intense. It’s just a case of good optimization. If other open world games this generation like The Witcher 3 for example were on the Wii U, it would need to be downgraded even more than the PS4 and Xbox One. And they’re already on like mostly medium-high settings running at 30 fps. Wii U would be like low-medium settings at 720p with probably low textures. PS4 and Xbox One are already struggling to break past 30fps at 1080P. But they are still capable of doing quite a bit more than the Wii U can. That’s what people mean when they call it weak. The Wii U didn’t need to be $800 with high end hardware. It just needed to at least be on par with the other systems for people to be satisfied. People don’t seem to understand that unlike the Xbox One, it’s hardware is not that far from the PS4 and it only needs to have a few things to be scaled back slightly like maybe a bit of drop in texture quality and it will run fine compared to the other console. Whereas the Wii U needs to make a lot of compromises to the point where it takes too much work for some developers and not even be worth their time. They’re not going to want to put so much effort into a version that probably won’t even sell that well.
Yea, but the Witness has about as good graphics as ZeldaU and obviously the Wii U can run that game. Maybe not in 1080p 60fps, but maybe 1080p 30 or 720p 60.
Seeing as how that game isn’t currently on the Xbox One either, it’s most likely just the developer’s decision.
Yea. Well the Xbone isnt selling well either so thats a factor. They put it where the most buyers are, PC and PS4.
