Alison Rapp, who assisted with Nintendo’s Treehouse broadcasts, has announced on Twitter that the company has let her go, explaining that she is no longer a “good and safe representative at Nintendo”, due to the controversies that she has been the center of.

I’m extremely tired of these no life low lifes. I’m very disappointed in Nintendo for giving in to bullying and harassment.
She advocated for pedophilia on twitter multiple times. I’m pretty sure she was fired not because of GG, but because of that.
That’s because they (unfortunately) have to be. They may have a mountain of lawyers, but bullies of the company are much, MUCH stronger (legally and financially) than fans could ever be. All it takes is to lobby Congress for a couple of a million dollars for a little while and Nintendo is done (knowing how “anti-video game” governments are).
In contrast, they can’t touch Sony and Microsoft because they’re much more financially capable of defending themselves (since Sony makes stuff like TVs/cameras/tablets/etc. outside of video games and Microsoft makes stuff like Windows/Surface/Office/etc. outside of video games).
The government has (and will unfortunately always be) against video games in general and I don’t expect that to change any time soon (or ever). Maybe that’s me being pessimistic, but right now, I don’t think so.

I’m… not too sure what’s so difficult to understand about what I’m talking about. It’s simple: Nintendo doesn’t want any problems when it comes to these situations and so in order to make sure that any opinions expressed by the employee aren’t pulling down the company (because many stupid people in power will make others think that the employees opinion = the company’s opinion), they decided that they need to end the employment of said employee. It’s the same as if an athlete was found to be using performance-enhancing drugs: the sponsors will end their contracts with said athlete so that people wouldn’t think that they’re advocating doing that sort of thing while playing sports.
In any case, you can hate on me all you want but it’s an opinion; an opinion that’s in no way stating which side I’m on, but as a response to TurdFurgy’s comment. Am I in support of it? Well, I don’t have a dog in this fight, so I’m going to remain undecided on the matter.

I know it’s still shitty for anyone to defend child pornography, but she had statements about how her opinion had changed, and it was a paper from a long time ago, when she was in college, and she was defending the Japanese view of how 13 year olds can be sexualized in their media. MY POINT being that that thesis was totally out of line, but it sucks when someone has since changed but their past actions catch up with them like that. Well, the intention wasn’t to explain in complete detail what happened. She was fired, and I briefly said why (although I should’ve used quotes for the GamerGate mention seeing as how I was mainly quoting her). The article was about her firing, so I let the tweets announcing that do the talking.

If owning it is illegal there’s less reason to produce it because you can’t make money off of it. Making it legal to own it would mean more of it would be produced.
