Nintendo Wii: Nintendo Collaborated With THQ To Produce The uDraw Tablet

The super stylish and extremely innovative uDraw tablet was the result of an “incredible partnership” between THQ and the Japanese gaming giant, Nintendo.

“When we came to Nintendo in the beginning with the idea for uDraw, they said ‘that’s brilliant, let’s figure out how to do this. It’s been an incredible partnership. … I’ve been working in game development for 17-plus years and I can honestly say this is one of the smoothest collaborations with a first party I’ve ever had, just because everybody got it on day one.”

“The prototype was a like bunch of lasers and mirrors and loose parts, it was wood and it had brass on it,” he recalled. “I said, ‘There’s no way we can get this to something like this [the current hardware] without it costing a fortune.’ Nintendo said, ‘Don’t worry about it. You guys are software developers, we are the kings of hardware. We will figure this out.’ And they did, for one reason — the idea was solid. Everybody knew it was a good idea, so we figured out the rest.”

    1. I’m not sure why you’d be embarrassed for Nintendo over this. I actually think it’s a neat idea. It’s a better idea than the supposedly forthcoming Vitality Sensor peripheral xD

  1. 1. If it flop, then Nintendo dont have to take the blame.

    2. If it succed Nintendo can sell more Wii systems.

    3. If it just “only” (in comparison with wii fits multi million) sell one million, it will be great for THQ.

Win win for N. Big risk for THQ

    1. The could make the both screens on the TV. Probably will happen when the next console will have HD output. :) Could work now, without the HD resolution…

  2. Wow, a slightly larger, half a DS! This is such a ‘uPad’ related rip, whats next, the ‘uPod’, the ‘UTouch’, the ‘UShuffle’, the ‘UMac’, or even the ‘UPhone’?

Shut up we’re Nintendo we got this!

  4. There are several useful possibilities for this. As said in an earlier topic, it could be used for a new Mario Paint game, or even a WiiWare version of FlipNote Studio. Both of which would be very cool, especially if they’re done correctly. This could even be use with educational games, such as learning to read & write, for smaller children. If the right games come out for this, it’s gonna sell like hotcakes….Believe me.

Could someone explain to me how this is revolutionary? What could this possibly do that is so incredible? All I can think of is stuff that’s already been done, and would just be redundant to do again. This looks like just another cheep little add on and it isn’t even a new idea or anything. What’s worse is that there won’t be that many games for it since the Wii is coming to the end of it’s life line.
