Nintendo 3DS: Nintendo 3DS Battery Life Is Shorter Than The Nintendo DS

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has revealed to investors that the battery life for the Nintendo 3DS will be significantly shorter than its predecessor, the Nintendo DS.

“As for the battery, it is inevitable that Nintendo 3DS will be a device which requires more frequent recharging than Nintendo DS.”

“This is why we are going to include the cradle, which is a dedicated battery charger.

“Perhaps we may need to dispatch to our consumers a message, something like, ‘Please place your Nintendo 3DS on the cradle as soon as you return home with it’.”

– Nintendo president, Satoru Iwata

  1. Well, I think that nobody is surprized considereing the 3D stuff. I hope it lasts like, 4 hours.

    Can’t wayt for it!! *-*

  2. Not suprised it’ll spend battery more, it’s gonna be an expensive device and support hi def graphics and 3D.

  4. @ PakoGDLmx – Think about that for a second. Then re-read the statement.

“As for the battery, it is inevitable that Nintendo 3DS will be a device which requires more frequent recharging than Nintendo DS.”

It’s referring to the duration of the battery.

  5. This was expected. The 3D effects take up TONS of power and will surprise me if the 3DS’ battery will last even 4 hours. This is one of many reasons why it’s smart to just wait for the 3DS Lite to come out (trust me, there will probably be one) and at that time it will probably have enhanced battery life.

  6. Well, I kind of doubt anyone is going to be playing it for 4 hours straight, or even 4 total hours in a single day without some time to plug it in to charge it. I know that I always used to plug my DSi back in whenever it wasn’t in my hands (back when I actually had TIME to play it, and the ability. FYI: the L button is broken). Even in the car, I had it plugged in most of the time, either with the car adapter, or the standard wall outlet plugged into my handy-dandy converter.

    1. I’ve always tried to avoid constantly recharging my DS while the light was still green. It extends the life of the battery if you allow it to drain before recharging, reducing the need to buy a new battery when it can barely hold a charge.

Oh well, I guess I’ll have to get used to doing that if I ever get a 3DS.

  7. I think the cradle is an epic idea. Makes charging much simpler. Also, I can only see the 3DS lasting 4 hours if you keep it at the brightest light. For the DSLite, using a low light setting, it can last almost 20 hours. With the brightest, I think it’s at 6.
