Shigeru Miyamoto has hinted that gamers could expect a new iteration of the Wii Music franchise.
Speaking to online publication Techland Shigeru Miyamoto stated that Nintendo are working on a brand new interface for the Wii Music series, and he also mentioned that Mario could also make an appearance.
“There’s still a lot of potential in Wii Music because we’re going to change it up and a new interface is coming.
“If we get more people to understand what’s going on with the concept, then Mario might appear in the game. I don’t know. But mostly, Mario is really action-oriented.”

I am one of the few who thinks that Wii Music was way more creative than the popular music games. I just hope they expand the concept of jamming and give your more options in picking notes, this could be a hit if Nintendo professionalized it. I understand Miyamoto here!
I am too! It is INCREDIBLY simple, easy to pick and play, and honestly, how many specific fond memories does anyone have with playing DJ hero with their family? I absolutely love Wii Music, and I love Nintendo’s idea to make a sequel. The only thing I didn’t like was how you had only two options when playing: randomly throw out notes and sound terrible, or follow the song exactly. Like you said, if they expand the options on making notes, it could be even MORE fun.
Glad you agree! You know what I liked to do? Play an instrument with the song on the lowest tempo, and add many notes, like a solo. Then I’d pick another instrument and put the tempo on max, just hear that epic solo you created earlier, haha.
Fact is, you needed people with a bit of musical feeling to play wii music. Many would just follow the exact music score or else it would sound horrible. I play some instruments, and this comes way closer in creativity than, indeed, dj hero.
It’s good to learn from mistakes. I think a Wii Music 2 would be good if they REALLY be creative with it. The Wii Motion Plus can play a role here.
I haven’t seen anything about Wii Music. The last I saw of it was it’s E3 debut, whenever that was. So, based on the above 2 comments, I guess I’ve been missing out?
You absolutely have been. I get harassed and called a casual faggot whenever I publicly list this as one of my ten favorite games of all time. This game is much more involving than every peripheral-wavin music game out there. If someone bashes it (and most everyone did), it’s because the concept for the game is over their head. Wii Music is almost played as much in my house as Super Smash Bros. Brawl, so this news totally made my day.
Wii Music is a very good game. I liked, not as much as a Mario or Zelda Game, but I like more than a GH or).
The thing here is, feel the music. Enjoy it. There’s good things, like the bells game or Mii Director. They should put more music too. Not just more characters. And a improvement to the game play of course.
This is exciting. While I enjoyed the game a lot, there were some aspects that felt lacking. I’d prefer a better musical selection, involving more Nintendo games.
Easy sharing to facebook/youtube for your videos would be really neat, but I don’t think that’ll happen.
Nice!! When Wii Music came out it was all I played for like a month. The one thing I hope they implement in 2 would be the option to create your own songs. That would KICK ASS.

It really needs midi out put so artists can use it.
This game is more like an animorphic instrument. YouTube upload or even post to the wiiware channel.
All old nes roms and vc games should be accessible if they used midi.
Like most music apps it will only sell 500,000.
They should combine this with the 3ds 3G cameras then let you put it all together.
