During the latest edition of Iwata Asks Nintendo president Satoru Iwata gave a hint that we may see the next installment of the popular Pikmin franchise on the Nintendo 3DS.
“Itoi: Well…you know…this is really… Oh, that’s Pikmin! Great!”
“Miyamoto: Doesn’t Pikmin look great?
“Iwata: It seems like Pikmin is perfect for 3D.
“Miyamoto: I like the way they scurry around.
“Itoi: Pikmin is a game with a peculiar 3D effect as if you’re getting down on hands and knees to look at something small. Man, I want one of these! I’ll buy one, Prez! How much is it going to cost me, Prez?”– Iwata Asks

So what does this mean for the Wii?
I’m guessing no for the Wii. It likely is on its last year or so and Pikmin would probably be a better game on the 3DS anyway.
According to news releases, Nintendo keeps saying Pikmin 3 is being actively developed. I believe there’s even a quote somewhere saying they didn’t show it off at E3 2010 because it wouldn’t have gotten the reception it deserved due to how many other big announcements there were. Maybe it was going to be on the Wii, but they decided now is a great time to take Pikmin to its first portable with how powerful the 3DS is.
Looking forward to some official confirmation on the future of the franchise.
Somthin in my head is tellin me that nintendo is goin to slowly stop makin games for the wii
Well, they already spoke about their next home console, so it looks like the Wii is coming to the end of it’s life, so yeah they’ll slowly try to focus more of their efforts on making games for whatever they have next.
I just hope it has graphics that can actually compete with the other consoles.
Why not hope for quality gameplay because graphics =/= fun factor.
Of course, if quality gameplay is present then better graphics are more than welcome. In the end though, I’ll take gameplay over graphics any day.
Why should I hope for quality gameplay? I don’t need to. Nintendo has an obsession over quality gameplay but for a ton of other things they don’t really seem to care. I actually shouldn’t have said graphics, I probably should have said power.
I also hope it comes boxed with a controller that is similar to the gamecube or classic controller. I’m not saying I don’t want a Wiimote type thing to come with it too, but if you ask me, one of the reasons developers are so reluctant to work on the Wii (besides the lack of power) is because they had to make their games Wiimote compatible. Sure there’s the classic controller, but not everyone has one since it didn’t come in the box.
I just want it so that I don’t have to buy two homeconsoles like I have now, one for Nintendo, and one for 3rd party games.
