Nintendo DSi: Six Year Old Finds Pornographic Images On Nintendo DSi

Alicia and Bill Elam of Springdale, Ohio recently purchased a pre-owned Nintendo DSi from Gamestop for their six year old son only for the child to discover that the previous owner had taken explicit photo’s of himself using the Nintendo DSi built in camera.

“I was in shock, I mean it was beyond unbelievable. “My 6-year-old son saw it, my 8-year-old too, and neither should ever see that.”

  1. Game Spot should really check what’s in a used piece of hardware before they sell it…
This is outrageous but used items or games often have trademarks of the previous owner in the software such as names or in this case… well you know. Next time make sure that the console is wiped of any undesiered content.

    1. They do. They are “supposed to go through a procees in which all the data on the ds is wiped. Now if someone leaves an SD card in there well that is a different story

  2. There’s a reason parental involvement are such a talked about issue with Nintendo PR. Some Gamestops check to see if there are any pictures, and deletes them (mine does), but I can assume most don’t.

  3. C’mon people, you’re using PREVIOUSLY OWNED hardware, with a built in camera, that’s a risk you should consider, so before handing a used camera device to your six year old, find out how it works, check it yourself, format the damn thing and THEN give it to him.

I blame the parent for being an ignorant and just blaming everyone else.

  4. two male children saw a picture of something that they both have themselves? I’m sure they will never get over that.

  5. wow… who cares anymore?
    I agree with Greenmousa.

Did people even learn their lesson about the reports of a PSP containing porn? I think not.

  6. Possibly the funniest thing I’ve ever read in my entire life. Successful troll was successful, also the troll took full advantage of the dsi’s camera feature, so congrats to him.

  7. I thought Gamestop had to delete all the old data before reselling systems. That’s what they have to do at my Gamestop anyway

  8. I understand why people say “It’s the parents fault” and I agree to a point. But when is life really that ideal? We know that most parents are really not tech-savvy. I’ve been teaching my parent things about technology since I was 14. Most peoples parents would have made the same mistake. I think if you are going to sell a used piece of technology that can store data, you should be required by law to check any stored data first.

  11. I’m sure they’ll make a pathetic attempt to sue Nintendo even though it’s clearly GameStop’s fault.

  12. I am a GameStop employee (not of this particular location, thank goodness) and it is our job to format any and all preowned systems, especially DS systems. We even go as far as to change the name that the previous owner had stored. Some different managers at other stores are more lax, or perhaps this was an employee hired for holiday help. Ideally, the employy should have wiped the memory. However, everyone must remember that people are human and make mistakes. What person in their right mind would assume that a DS had porn on it anyway? And what 6 year old needs a game system with a camera and internet access?

  13. Really? I blame the parent. You gave the kid a USED device that has 2 frigging cameras. Check the thing before you give it to a six year old. While I don’t think it’s much a problem that a couple of kids saw something that they both have, we still should have learnt our lesson back when there was the incident of the used PSP containing pornography.

  14. Look man, if you as a parent can’t learn how to use a device that you will hand to your freaking 6 year old, maybe you shouldn’t be getting it at all, you’re not in control of the things your kid will be spending HOURS with, and if it has any kind of trouble you’ll just go an whine with tech support? Just to hear…oh yeah, you should hit the reset button, there, it’ll be 10 bucks. That’s useful.

I understand that maybe the Gamestop employee skipped one console and look what happened, it’s okay , it is partially his fault but…c’mon man…you’re a grown up too, and if your kid could access the photo gallery on a console made by NINTENDO (meaning it can be accessed easily by a 5 year old) so could you.
Get a fucking grip and get into the things your LITLE KIDS like, i’m not saying you should dress as a skater and hang in the park with your sons smoking pot when he turns 18, but hes 6 dude, be aware it’s an infant!

I think it’s far more easy as a parent to just blame someone else and not take real responsibility for your lack of attention or interest in your children hobbies, apparently, it’s easier to go around 20 years later blaming Call of Duty for your son trying to shoot people at school and getting arrested for it.

    That’s all i’m saying.

  15. Yeah it’s a mix of the two really. When buying something preowned you expect the store to have wiped the data. That being said I’ll always wipe preowned data when purchasing the product. It takes a few minutes for the parent to check if the product is suitable for their child. Common sense really.

  17. Boys have a penis. Girls have a vagina. We learned this in Kindergarden Cop. Nothing new folks. It still amazes me how so many in the Western World (or is it in just English speaking Western World countries?) react to simple nudity. It’s not pr0n for fraks sake!

Perhaps its because of my Eastern European heritage, or due to my medical background, (or too much SBS?) but i accept nudity and parts thereof for what it is: Natural.

Get a grip folks (pun intended ;) this should not be blown out of proportion. While i agree that stores should check for and wipe certain material from pre-owned storage media before re-selling (esp. anything with cameras), i don’t think that anyone should lose their job over this. Let’s see how long it takes for the ‘affected’ parties to try and scab some money off Gamestop, or even Nintendo.

  18. kids nowadays don’t even know how to play games so idk why parents would buy them especially since kids would break them

  19. Breaking them? Amen! Next thing you’ll find out is “Mommy, theres porn on the Nintendo web browser history!” I remeber my mom giving me a gameboy Micro when I was 6, (They dont make those anymore, right?) Parents these days.
