Nintendo 3DS: Nintendo 3DS Messaging System Hopefully Coming Soon

Bill Trinen, Product Marketing Manager at Nintendo of America, has stated that a messaging system should be coming to the Nintendo 3DS soon.

“The goal is that there will be some messaging functions.”

Messaging functionality is currently missing on the Nintendo 3DS as I pointed out in a earlier article but users can still set status messages and show friends what they’re currently playing.

  1. That’s pretty decent, not that I’d use it much but still.

I’d like to know if the wirless connection thing is better than the DS’ there are so few wirless routers my DSlite connects to it’s stupid.

    1. To be specific, the 3DS supports WPA and WPA2, but for old DS games, WPA will not be supported due to the way the 3DS handles backwards compatibility.

  2. Have you added any friends? And is there some sort of wii-like “3DS connect 24” setting so you can always be online?

    1. The 3DS has a pass-by mode where it is always communicating through wi-fi (where available) and wirelessly.

    2. There is functionality similar to WiiConnect24; it’s called StreetPass. Even while the 3DS is closed (in sleep mode), it can communicate with other devices nearby and automatically download updates over wifi.

    3. Yes I’ve added a couple of people who picked up review units. Like Alex said the console is always online and receiving communications(if you let it)
