With this years E3 conference soon upon us online gaming publication IGN have posted their personal E3 predictions. Whilst there are plenty of interesting discussions regarding what the different platform holders will showcase at the event, IGN are still on the fence regarding whether or not The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword will become a Nintendo Wii 2 launch title. Are you guys thinking it will remain on the Wii, or will it be moved to Project Cafe? Alternatively it could feature on both consoles like The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Whatever Nintendo decides to do let’s hope they make the right decision.
Nintendo’s got a tough decision to make with Skyward Sword. On one hand the company has set this precedent before, when Twilight Princess was shifted from the GameCube to be a Wii launch title. On the other hand, we won’t see the new Nintendo system till 2012, which means the Wii is looking at a pretty barren release schedule this fall if Skyward Sword gets taken out of the mix. This one could definitely go either way.

We need at least 1 wii-native Zelda game
You know what, I won’t be surprised in the slightest if they decide to release it for the Wii and Cafe. I wouldn’t have a problem with it either, just as long as they’re perfect!
The only way for me this would be acceptable is if its got the quality graphics and FULL (project cafe) support! And i dint see that happening! Give me a wii skyward sword!
I hope it doesn’t. I will buy the Project Cafe for Skyward Sword, but I really don’t want to have to.
And I preordered this at Gamestop a year ago after it was announced at E3. I hope it just comes out for the Wii.
No way, it’s too dependent on the MotionPlus.
Plus, it’ll look like crap compared to the other games (hopefully)
I think it will be on the Wii because of A. Wii motion plus is such a main component. and B. it’s almost done and Cafe will probably come out at the end of next year. So It’s gonna be on the Wii. It only makes sense. Plus it will give the Wii a final hoorah before it gets canned.
The wii is on critical condition right now. Developers seem to be either out of ideas or unmotivated to release new material for the system. Nintendo has to act now if they want to have good earning for the holiday season. I don’t think just a few good 3DS games are going to give Nintendo the profit it has received during past holidays. I think they’re risking the holiday season at this point waiting until early 2012 to release Project Cafe. What good is it that Nintendo wins the hand held war/sales if it gets pummeled by the competition in home console sales?
it better fucking be released on the Project Cafe cause if im gonna fucking be using a mother fucking Wii Mote to play zelda i might as well be using the wiimote to fuck myself in the asshole
Daw… did mommy forget to change your diaper today? Is that why you’re so mad?
You do realise that whichever console it’s released on it’ll probably use Motionplus either way?
You know what? I 100% agree! I played Twilight Princess on Wii and felt like my soul was dying the controls were that bad. I got a gamecube copy and I’m on my 3rd play through (for the fun of it!). Wii has died! Leave it for Project cafe!
better be on the Wii..
it’s been delayed so much already >_>
Hope so! 1st Zelda to be HD + this game looks amazing so it deserves the new system!
First, I have to see what the Project Cafe controllers are going to be like. They put so much effort into the Wii MotionPlus it’d just be silly to abandon that. Twilight princess was different because the controller was the main thing that wow’d us about the Wii 5 years back and virtual no one cared for the GCN version after that (save for myself. I hated the idea of a reversed map). This is a zelda game made from scratch for the Wii. And that’s where my anticipation lies.
Just keep it on the system it was INTENDED to be on, don’t pull a Gamecube on us Nintendo, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON’T
To only have one Zelda game on the Wii in the span of nearly 6 years would be an atrocity. At least Gamecube had Wind Waker, 4 Swords, Twilight Princess and disc versions of all the classics except Link to the Past. It better come out on the Wii ONLY! They should be working on a completely new Zelda for Project Cafe.
They won’t move it. Skyward sword was completely made with wiimotion plus in mind. Changing platforns would completely alter the game.
No! That target practice game that came with the Wii Zapper doesn’t count as a Zelda game in my opinion.
I’m all for making it a Project Cafe launch title. I’d rather play an HD Zelda soon than play a Wii Zelda sooner. But I wonder how they’d convert that 1:1 motion control to the Cafe, which sounds like it’s going to use a more standard shaped controller ( screen, of course).
It is also possible that the Café will support Wii controllers if it is intended to be backwards compatible.
If this game goes to Wii2, I swear to God I’m gonna pop a blood vessel. I’ve been through two Nintendo Wiis waiting for this game to happen! They already pushed it back porting a whole other Zelda game to 3DS. Don’t do this, Nintendo. Please?
I honestly don’t know why this speculation article is even being considered as news. It’s not even a rumor with some kind of source, so why are you treating it that way?
Their reason is the same one we’ve been hearing over and over, “It happened to Twilight Princess.” Guess what else happened to Twilight Princess? It was given a brand-new control scheme that the GCN didn’t provide, and the console it launched with, the Wii, is backwards-compatible with GCN discs anyway.
Skyward Sword is built around Wii Motion Plus, and I don’t see them introducing a button-mapped or other drastically different control scheme. Plus, Café should also be backwards-compatible with Wii games. For these reasons, they won’t be making a Café edition of Skyward Sword.
Lets just hope it on both the wii and project cafe. Like how they did with twilight princess.
Like I said, there’s absolutely no reason for them to do this if Café is backwards-compatible. The only reason Twilight Princess got another version was due to the new Wiimote-Nunchuck control scheme. Since the game was built around Wii Motion Plus already and I don’t see them having a button-mapped version or some other crazy new control scheme, it wouldn’t make sense to release 2 versions.
I hope they release it for both systems. It’ll be awesome like they did with Twilight Princess.
I’m sensing a bit of fanboyism here, yeah the graphics are lacking on the Wii, but if Nintendo does go the Gamecube route again, its really only just gonna be a straight up port of a Wii game, with probably no graphical updates, just a control change, thus making a Project Cafe version UNECESSARY THANK YOU AND GOODNIGHT
and George is right
Thanks, I really appreciate the support. :)
I do think you’re still being a bit too lenient towards the idea by proposing a “control change.” This game was designed around Wii Motion Plus, so I just can’t see them doing something unique for Café.
While I believe it’s absolutely not getting a different version, Café could be the preferred platform for playing Skyward Sword if Nintendo decided to have the Café remote also be backwards-compatible. For anyone who decided to not get a Wii (Wii Motion Plus at the very least), this would make the transition easier.
There is no way Nintendo will be releasing Skyward Sword on Project Cafe. It just won’t happen, I guarantee it. They owe us that much on the Wii. Plus, the graphical difference between the two systems is huge, unlike GCN to Wii. It just isn’t going to happen, I guarantee it.
What I think they’re planning is for Skyward Sword to be the very final game for the Wii, so this generation goes out on “good terms”.
It basically comes down to this: does Nintendo think the title would benefit from Cafe/Stream controls more than it currently does from WiiMotionPlus? Also, consider everything we’ve seen so far. A crap-ton of puzzles depend on MotionPlus, and a lot of work clearly went into this game to make it work for the Wii controls. Unless Nintendo thinks that the Cafe/Stream controller will work for the game much better, then the Wii-only version is here to stay.
I really hope not… the wii needs it’s own zelda game and so does the wii 2 otherwise why the hell did I even bother buying it when I could’ve just gotten a gamecube for $40 >.<
I doubt they will drop the current engine and rewrite a new one just so this game can have better graphics. I wouldnt be surprised if its released on their new console but it definitely wont be as good as it should have been. Its gonna be a native Wii title like the previous was a native GC title.
Lol IGN screws up again… This game was announced for the Wii last year at E3. So far Nintendo has and probably will say nothing about changing it to project Cafe. They’re not dumb. they wouldn’t do that after the amount of marketing they are currently doing for the wii with the price drop. Oh and to make things better. Isn’t the wii 2 compatible with the wii controllers?
As the Wii’s last run this will probably be the best awesome game coming out for it. Also nintendo isn’t like capcom… they wouldn’t cut support on the wii so soon. Maybe about late next year though….
They did that with Twilight Princess. Then announced it for the Gamecube then changed it to the Wii. The only reason I could imagine this being any different would be because the Gamecube was Nintendo’s worst selling console of all time while the Wii is the best selling of all time.
Yea but looking back, the GameCube was just AMAZING and the Wii is nothing more than a family and kiddie console. Apart from donkey kong, and Twilight Princess (maybe some of the mario games) there are no hardcore gamer releases. So in my opinion…
GameCube>Wii
over all the 3ds games i want (like legend of zelda and tales of the abyss) i probably won’t afford this.
No, wii need to have his own zelda game
twillight princess was a gamecube game
so stick to the wii and make another zelda game for the wii2

It would be a terrible move. Combined with the dearth of solid 3DS originals, it would be a tacit admission by Nintendo that they are out of good ideas.
Then the wii would not have its own Zelda game wich is stupid. Every Nintendo console should have a Zelda game they should just make another Zelda for the Wii 2 and not release it so late.
I definitely don’t see it being released on just Project Cafe. If it is on Project Cafe then it will be on both just as Twilight Princess was. I think it would be nice to see it in HD but I don’t even know if that will happen. Twilight Princess was made for Gamecube but moved to the Wii. If you play TP on the Wii on an HD TV, it looks horrible compared to other games that don’t look so bad.
I would be more than happy to wait for this to be a lunch title for the new console, i really do wish Nintendo do this to boost console sales next year with Cafe.
Urghhhh, so unsure. If they keep it for Cafe, it’ll probably just feel like a half assed game a la TP (only in the respect that it was planned for one console then they basically just shifted it to the next).
I say just release it on Wii, then wait for a Cafe exclusive Zelda.
