    1. The GameBoy Donkey Kong game starts out with the same levels as the arcade, but instead of DK falling on his head at the end of the rivet stage, he escapes and that’s when the game REALLY starts.

This game is the birth of the gameplay that Mario vs. DK is known for.

This is the one gameboy game that I could think of that I wanted released for 3DSVC. I just hope they release it in North America, not just UK.

  1. Aw man I remember this game! I always called it Donkey Kong 94 cause that’s when it came out. It’s so addicting once you get into it.

  2. Will NOT be getting this. For the power that the 3DS has, you would think the hardware could handle something a little more recent than ca. 1981 tech. Bring on Gamecube Monkey Ball, and then we’ll talk about what I’m going to do with my money.

    1. Well, duh.. that’s the entire point of the virtual console. I’m just wondering where the rest of today’s update is.

  3. Donkey Kong aaaaand, … That’s it. Wtf Nintendo. Why don’t you add some 3D depth to the original Zelda, and sell itnto me again for the 10th time. I’d happily buy it again.

    Seriously. One, 2D game.

The good news is, I’m finished. You beat me down nintendo. My expectations are now so low, and I’m so not excited by anything you do, I’ll be dazzled at almost any sign you actually give a fuck.

Thanks for Excite Bike though. I did enjoy my first and only downloadable 3D game. (kinda makes me wonder why the hell you couldn’t have put a few other fan favorites in 3D… You showed us it could be done, then showed us just how much you value your own 3D technology, by making everything else 2D.

Three more days, three more days…

    1. Virtual console is to play retro games, not to play brand new or remastered games. That falls under a different category. Besides, Nintendo is just getting started on the 3DS store.

      1. Oh, I totally agree. They are JUST getting started. I couldn’t agree more.

I bought my console in march on day one.

They launched eshop months later with 1 3D game. Their first update they gave us zero 3D games.

You don’t like my bitter tone, fair enough. But I’m talking common sense. The first 3D console that’s a category of one… Has one 3D game in their eShop nearly three months after launch.

        Sorry, no excuse for that.

        1. Would you prefer a half-assed shit eShop that was thrown together or something good that took time? For the love of God, be patient. More games are on the way. Be happy the eShop wasn’t delayed as much as Valve would’ve delayed it.

          1. After creating a 3D console, you really think they couldn’t have taken the time to port a few old games so we could have one per week?

They created a glasses free 3D console.

They could have ported more than one 8-bit game.

            1. I’d rather spend my time playing full quality games from my cartridge like Legend of Zelda. Nintendo is prioritizing high quality games over old game ports.

Why is that such a bad thing?

    1. Right on. OOT hits here in the US on the 19th. If you’ll note the last phrase on my original post. ;-) I just have to wait 3 more days!!!

  4. I wish it was free. There’s no way my Mum would let me download it for the E shop price off the E shop.

    1. Can you buy a prepaid card for the eShop where you live? Save up $20, then buy one when there’s something in the eShop you absolutely must have. You’ll have lots of money to shop with, and one of the games you can pick up is this one

If my understanding is correct, this is Donkey Kong ’94. This game is the pinacle of everything pre-Country DK is. As someone noted above me, this is the first Mario vs. Donkey Kong game. This and Link’s Awakening DX would be the best purchases you can make from the VC, and that is by no means sad.

    1. BTW, I’m aware Munch’s Oddysee is an Xbox exclusive. It was the first single-player game I got for it.
