Nintendo of America spokesperson Sharon Matheny has confirmed that The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword has as game breaking bug which currently has no fix.
“We have been made aware of the issue that results in being unable to progress in the Song of the Hero quest.”
“If the game has been saved after completing the sequence of events, it will no longer be possible to proceed through the game on that save file. The only options at that point are to either start the game over or to use an earlier save file to continue.”
So what you’re wondering now is how to avoid this game breaking bug? Well here’s what Nintendo advises you should do: avoid Golo the Goron after you obtain the Thunder Dragon’s song.
Which one is it? the Goddess cubes one or that who keeps excavating?
The one that was digging in the Lanayru Caves.
That guy? I walked near him and it triggered an event, which he then gave me a key to proceed to the sand sea. Right now I’m passed [SPOILERS~][SPOILERS~]The second: The Imprisoned fight.
Am I safe?
Yeah, you’re safe. You’re safe all the way past the second set of three dungeons you are on. Once you reach a quest to obtain song parts from the dragons, be careful.
I think you get the thunder dragons song after you finish in the Ancient CIstern or in the SandShip or in the Fire summitSomebody Please reply ASAP with an answer Because im Scared to play my game now
The Thunder Dragon’s song can be obtained before or after the other two parts of the Song of the Hero. You’ll have beaten all of the dungeons but the final temple by the time you can get the Thunder Dragon’s portion of the song. If you already have the song, just don’t talk to the Goron who was mining in Lanayru. If you don’t have the song, you’ll need to talk to him to get to the Thunder Dragon in the first place.
It’s recommended that you do the obtaining of the song in the order of Faron, Eldin, Lanayru or Eldin, Faron, Lanayru. If the current information is accurate, then you’d be safe if you safe Lanayru for last.
Yeah, the Goron who tells you about the excavation project he is doing. Also, I talked to Golo once, but NOT twice, so does that mean I am safe?
Golo is the mining Goron. Gorko is the traveling goron who studies the Goddess Cubes, etc.
Then I think I’m clear. I’m gonna remember to avoid that character altogether pretty much. Thanks for the heads-up!
Reading up further, I’m good.
[possible spoiler]I already completed the Water Dragon quest and I’m working on the Fire one. I won’t be affected by it.[end]
You only have to talk to the Goron that Nintendo is telling you to avoid ONE TIME! before the point in time they’re telling you to avoid him MAYBE twice. You talk to hi, to activate getting to the thunder dragon and then you can ignore his existence for the rest of the game. I only talked to him when I had to and never even bothered with him again and I never had problems.
The people who’re afraid to play SS now or wont buy it cause it’s “Full of glitches” need not worry. It’s no big deal.
this is why nintendo should’ve embraced online more. a patch could easily fix that.
I think they can do it.
But they never do it…
As much as I love Nintendo, I agree with this statement 100%.
This really wasn’t a foreseeable issue in 2004 and 2005 when they were developing Wii…
Nintendo is one of the best companies when it comes to releasing games without any huge, game-breaking glitches. Look at Skyrim, which shipped as a terrible, sloppy mess just to get it out the doors for the holidays. I’m sure Bethesda knew their game was a mess, but intended to patch it up after release. This “patch” mentality is unhealthy because now many gamers have lost trust in the Bethesda brand.
I’m not saying Nintendo would ever do something like this, but it goes to show how companies can be less inclined to perfect a game when they know they can patch it up after it’s already generating revenue.
YEP CAUSE SKYRIM IS SO GODDAMN BUGGY THATS ALL YA HEAR ABOUT THE GAME IS THAT IT IS SO FUCKING BUGGY BETTER NOT BUY SKYRIM CAUSE ITS SO FUCKING BUGGY. Skyrim doesnt have a single game breaking glitch in it. hell the only “glitchs” ive noticed is untethered lands which is no big deal since its just a visual glitch and drunk dragons which are fun to bad they patched it. but now look Skyward Sword has a game breaking glitch so im not going to be buying it because its so fucking buggy with all of its glitches.
Skyrim has a couple bugs that could be considered “game breaking” to many. There’s the issue with the PS3 version that basically rendered the game unplayable after about 40 hours of gameplay on a single save (not much for a game like Skyrim). Just Google it and you’ll see what I’m talking about. The PC has a similar known issue, in which a save file can become corrupt and all character data lost under various circumstances.
While other bugs are less significant (such as Dragon’s not awarding souls on death or not being able to join the Thieve’s guild because the required NPC won’t participate, which locks out a large section of the game for that save file), I would argue that they are still notable. I’m not saying that they’re all game breaking or as notable as what we’re seeing here in Skyward Sword; rather I am saying that your claim that “Skyrim doesn’t have a single game breaking glitch in it” is both ill informed and false.
meh your retarded if you buy a Bethesda game for the PS3.
*Meh , *you’re retarded…
You’re about ignorant if you’re saying Skyrim doesn’t have a single game breaking glitch, and even more ignorant for implying that Zelda has as many or more bugs than Skyrim. Certain glitches in Skyrim leave you stuck until you reset the game, while others render the game unplayable. Of course it’s going to be “all you hear” about Skyrim. It’s just another one of Bethesda’s annual glitch fests, and I cannot look past that for another time. Fallout 3 was one of the first of its kind for consoles so its glitches are understandable. But in late 2011? Bugs in such great numbers are inexcusable in this day and age.
To give you some perspective: imagine a Zelda game where Ganondorf walked backwards everywhere; where Epona arbitrarily flew up into the air and spun around until I reset my Wii; where every NPC walked around rigidly and emotionless. You’d hate it, just as everyone else would, no matter how riveting the story was or how good the graphics were.
actually in wind waker theres a glitch where Ganondorf one move at all.
anyways if u fall in a hole between rocks dont be a fucking bitchy baby. restart the damn game.
^^This^^ Pretty lame that I gotta avoid a part of the game & that’s Nintendo’s solution. Things like this better be fixed for the next generation…*sigh* oh well…just gonna need more than one save file.
You do know that all you have to do is avoid talking to him after getting the Thunder Dragon’s song, which you get from him. You only need to talk to him once and never again so it’s not a big deal.
If it was that big a deal, they would offer to patch the game for free by sending it in. Obviously, the glitch isn’t that big a deal.
Oh god, not again. This was also a problem in Twilight Princess.
Anyway, saying avoid Golo after getting the Thunder Dragon’s song isn’t telling me much. Does this mean I can’t talk to Golo period after getting the song or is there a point in the game where I can start talking to him again?
I remember that problem from TP too. Now we have to be careful about it again.
No, it just affects the dragon song quests.
Never encountered a problem with Twilight Princess, I guess it was cause I still had a GameCube before I got the Nintendo Wii, IDK if I should wait now for Skyward Sword until they figure out how to get rid of this glitch, or see for myself if I glitch before I get the Thunder Dragon’s song.
Thankfully, I never encountered those glitches before I knew about them. I don’t think I could have got it in Skyward Sword the first time around since “Water Dragon” first popped into my head when it came to learning the songs.
Its weird i already walked near golo and it triggered the event with him giving me the key then what i got to the nearest Bird statue i saved and nothing happened my game data has been fine up until the point where you have to do the Eldin Volcano Silent realm challenge and nothing has happened to my data so far.
Well, obviously since you are still doing the silent realms, you aren’t to the point where this glitch could happen.
There is one more silent realm area after the first three.
This is one of those cases where DLC would come in handy. There were also game breaking glitches in Twilight Princess and Metroid Other: M.
I hope there is no other bug in the game. I suggest gamers to create a second save file just as a backup after you end a Dungeon. Those times the game put the save screen without asking, save in the backup file just in case.
Except you can’t save to other save slots while playing on one. When you click “save” it doesn’t give you the option to save on whichever slot you want. It just saves to the one you’re playing on, so that advice isn’t helpful at all =/
Good point. I just realized it can’t be done. But you can still backup the game copying the Wii save slot to a external SD card.
Or you could just copy it to a different slot when selecting your save file.
Strange thing is, I seem to remember not only talking to that Goron, but saving afterward, and I had no problems at all.
Hm, good to know. Maybe only certain games have that problem.
IT’S THE SAME GAME OMG. He obviously didn’t talk to the Goron at the bug stage.
LOL. It’s not like a manufacturing flaw. Bugs like this don’t come in certain games. It’s the same for all the games sold so far. Probably Patrick didn’t talk to the Goron during the Quest.
I didn’t have this problem either,
Wow. I’m glad I know this now. I’m definitely creating a second save file just in case. It’s actually rather disappointing. It feels like the game is a little unprofessionally polished imo. Don’t get me wrong, I’m enjoying the hell out of it, but I can’t help but feel it’s of lesser quality than what it could be.
I wouldn’t say that. You can’t expect every glitch to be ironed out of a piece of software – asking for that it impractical, and simply impossible to do. Considering it’s a very specific circumstance where this occurs, it isn’t really a huge issue. Case in point: the cannon glitch in Twilight Princess.
Unprofessionally polished??? They polished the crap out of SS. There are VERY few bugs to be had, and screwing things up is almost impossible.
I never had that problem. Then again l sat down and beat the game in 1 sitting
No one cares! You obviously used a players guide because you can’t think for yourself. Bragging FAIL!
If you click the link where it says “has confirmed” it takes you to the following:
Nintendo released a how-to guide to BREAK your Skyward Sword game and while it does contain some minor SPOILERS, if you want to guarantee to avoid this bug, it might be worth while giving it a quick scan.
SO BASICALLY AVOID TALKING TO GOLO AFTER OBTAINING THE SONG.
It all takes place as part of the “Song of the Hero” quest:
1. At the beginning of the quest, go to Lanayru Desert to retrieve the song of the Thunder Dragon.
2. In the Lanayru Mine, speak with Golo the Goron.
3. Complete the Thunder Dragon’s event, and receive his song.
4. Before heading to the forest or volcano regions, speak with Golo in the mine again.
5. At this point, the forest and volcano events will no longer occur, making it impossible to continue.
I have a basic solution to this. (I’m going to try to avoid as much Spoilers as I can)
When you start the Song of the Hero quest, You need to collect three different songs each of which can be attempted in any order.. Just leave the Thunder Song in the Lanayru Desert to be the last one you obtain. If you do this, the bug will not affect you.
Yeah…I just did them in the order of all the other stuff. Forest, Volcano, Desert. didn’t have a single problem with the game. Problem solved.
I did this too.
I haven’t problem when through that point of the game… But I first come to the Water Dragon, after with the Thunder Dragon and finally with the Fire Dragon :S
I will avoid the dude and make sure my game don’t break
I’m confused why people are saying “make a back-up save file”. Um…you can’t make a back-up save file with this game. The way saving works in this game is that when you hit “save” during the game, it saves to the slot you’re playing on, without the option to save to another one. This means you can’t have a “back-up” save file from the same quest. Why people are still confused about this beats the hell out of me. It’s like a lot of the people here haven’t even played the game if they’re saying that =/
Yes, you are right. I didn’t realize this can’t be done because I always backup in a different way. It’s copying the Wii save file onto a DS card. This means you can still backup your game.
I mean SD Card…. XD
Save your file, return to the main menu screen, click on said save file, and choose the copy save file option. I don’t have the game yet but assuming it follows all previous zelda games this option should be available.
Yeah, it does.
It can be done, by going to the main menu you can easily choose to duplicate your game file.
You can save right before obtaining any of the 3 songs, then quit, copy your save into another slot, and start playing with the first one, if you get the bug, you still have the other save you just made, that’s a backup.
Noe biggie, they’ll just release a patch to fi-Oh wait, this is Nintendo.
Disappointed.
They delayed the game 6 months for polish and testing… Maybe passing out a few beta versions of the game to people might allow more in-depth testing.
It would be worth giving away a few hundred games to folks early to help prevent this.
Still, the game is pretty impressive. I’m enjoying it quite a bit… A little nervious now though… What if there is a bug we don’t know about yet in addition to the one we just heard about?! D:
These kinds of glitches are harder to find, you actually have to find them first to fix them.
That’s pretty much easy to avoid since there is a bird statue outside where the Thunder Dragon is. Which is good if you want to come back and do his Challenges.
Avoid him at all cost…
OMG THIS GAME IS SO TERRIBLE ITS GOT SO MANY BUGS AND GLITCHES ITS ALMOST UNPLAYABLE OMGOMGOMG DIS GAME DUSNT DSRV ALL THE PRAISE IT IS GETING CAUSE IT GOT SO MANY BAD BUGS AND GLITCHES OMGOMGOMG. trolling aside. this is all i hear when a zelda fan talks about skyrim even though they havnt played it they complain about glitches. which is an over exaggeration. there are hardly any bugs in the game and none of them are game breaking. most of the glitches ive experienced are either hilarious (DRUNK DRAGONS FTW…to bad they patched it D:) or helpful (training exploits with your companions) so from now on if i ever see a bitchy zelda fan bitch about the little glitches in skyrim ill throw out the “YOUR GAME BREAKS WHEN I DO THIS” glitch card. so now Zelda fans…ITS TIME TO DU-DU-DU-DU-DUDUDUDUDUDUDUAL
I’ve played Skyrim. Plugged in around 30 hours (compare that to my 52 hours in Skyward Sword). It feels like more of the same crap Bethesda’s been churning out for the past 6 years, only with a little more spit-shine. I have lots of fun exploring (which Skyward Sword toned down far too much imo) but it’s hard to get into the actual gameplay because everything still feels clunky. The glitches pull me out more than anything, and they’re more common than you let on.
I don’t care if you like Skyrim, just as you shouldn’t care if I dislike it. But don’t knock a game for the sake of knocking it, like you’re admitting to doing with Zelda. Anyone will tell you that Skyrim is unstable, there’s no need to try to defend it on the grounds that it isn’t because… that doesn’t make sense. Right now your argument is “Skyrim is fine because Zelda has a glitch,” which is a pathetically weak argument if you ask me.
Good thing I went first to the forest dragon! HAHA!
I always done it Forest, Volcano, Desert the 1st time so I’m good. Also, I didn’t even know who Goro was XD.
simple solution leave the thunder dragon for last
*Response please!* In my file from what I remember: I talked to the goron and did the ship-dungeon first because i couldn’t get past that fat basterd to squeeze in the crawling spot. Am I going to occur this bug? From what I read on gameinformer, it probably won’t happening :)
no. It seems the glitch only occurs if you’ve gotten the Thunder Dragon’s Song Piece, but not all of the first 3 song pieces. You have to get the Thunder Dragon’s Song Piece, then talk to the goron BEFORE getting the other two Dragon’s song pieces.
Hey sickr!!!
Post that Zelda beat skyrim on G4!!!!!
Will do!
Sounds like an unpleasant glitch, nothing to worry yourself silly over. The solution is simple: just don’t talk to the Goron in question until you’ve gotten the first three parts of the song. Simple, no? How you go about it doesn’t matter. And isn’t it possible this glitch, and whatever causes it, will be fixed via WiiConnect24? or am I misunderstanding the point of WiiConnect24?
Uhm I think this is only some copies… Cause I saved and quit RIGHT AFTER I completed this quest and then I beat the game the next day.
Really people? There is no reason to talk to Golo after he let’s you get past him to Lanayru Gorge. Calm the fuck down. No one is losing out on any content by simply walking past Golo and not talking to him.
Uh I don’t care cause I beat the game already and started Hero Mode and at Faron Woods now.
People you don’t need to worry, I saved before the final boss, defeated him then was asked if I wanted to start the hero quest and overwrite the file… I thought wtf hell no I’m not deleting the file. So I switched it off, copied the file to file number 2, then just defeat the boss again on file 2 and let file 2 become the hero’s quest. It is annoying and I was taken aback when I saw it. I thought oh wow this is just like the wind waker, but then it meant deleting the current file, so I thought hmmm how do I get out of this.
Weird. I never encountered that glitch. However, there were some glitches with the cat for some reason…. Anyways, it was a wonderful game (GoTY worthy).
whats the glitch with the cat? from what i’v experienced on my game the cat is VERY annoying and attacks you at night, and eventho i love cats, i attack it back then it cowers in a corner.
Can’t they patch it… or is the Wii unable to do that?
they could release a firmware update for the wii just like they fixed the bugs for ridge racer 3d, wii sports/resort, and other certain software.
Easiest way to avoid: Do the thunder dragon part LAST.
Ah, this brings me back to the days of The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess LOL There’s a similar “game breaking” bug in it. When you get to the point when you have the dominion rod and you go to the basement of that place in Kakariko Village to get the canon that takes you to the Sky Temple, in the ORIGINAL batch of games that was released, some copies (not all) had the same bug where if you saved the game there, you wouldn’t be able to progress any further. (If i’m not mistaken, you have to save the game before teleporting, i can’t remember if you do it before or after talking to the guy that’s in there with you though. but then you won’t be able to warp when you turn the game back on. there’s a video of it on youtube somewhere)
Solution?: Nintendo could release a Wii firmware update to fix the Skyward Sword bug just like they did to Ridge Racer 3D’s bug for the 3DS, Wii Sports/Resort for the Wii, and other software via the firmware updates so that way, the bugs may be fixed!
I just want to clarify. Do you start the Song of the Hero quest once you get the harp from zelda?
yes and much later, you need to have [SPOILER] revisted each area of the main land again first, so dont worry.
It’s a lot later. remember this: don’t go to Lanayru until you’ve beaten the Faron woods quest and the Eldin volcano quest after speaking to a giant flying sky-fish.
fucking badly-bound triggers -_-
It’s a little mistake, which you could expect from a 35 hour long game. It’s the only one I know of, but this should not have happened again after Twilight Princess.
