GameSpot has published the results of a reader survey which shows consumers most requested feature from next generation consoles such as the Wii U, PlayStation 4 and the next Xbox. Surprisingly the most requested feature wasn’t graphical prowess but the ability to play your old games on your next generation consoles. Thankfully Nintendo has already stated that Wii games and peripherals will be fully backwards compatible with Wii U.
I think a lot of people expect the graphics out of the other 2 therefore want the backwards compatibility.

10. Skyward Sword, I haven’t played it, but once again, it has new places, so even if you have the same gameplay, it’s good. For example, take Super Mario Bros. The game was good. Then came Japanese Mario 2, Lost Levels. Same exact game code, but fun, although hard as shit. After that came Mario 3 and World. It’s the same basic idea, with even the same plot, but with new levels, it never gets old. So stop your fucking whining and either play Nintendo or don’t.

Hopefully Microsoft will take note of this and make their next console FULLY backwards compatible. So frustrating how only 50% of my xbox games work on the 360… I love how the wii was 100% compatible with all GC games and controllers.
Yeah, Microsoft was bad with BC, But Sony is worse. After a while, they purposely make new models without backwards compatibility. That really pisses me off…
As long as Nintendo feature Gamecube games as Virtual Console downloads, then I’ll be happy with the current backward compatibility.
I was hopeful that since Wii could play gamecube games, that Wii U could play Gamecube games… I’m not looking forward to buying my gamecube games again.
Since New Wii’s won’t have Game-cube playback, I suppose there must be some expense involved, but still, … :(

I realy dont care if they can play gamecube games because the thrif store in my area sells games and i got a gamecube + 2 controls + 5 games for $15. i sooooooooooo much perfer doing that.

I dont care about playing my Gamecube games on it cause well I still have my Gamecube and Wii, I just want to be able to use the Gamecube controller, especially when the new Smash Bros comes out its the best way to play it in my opinion.

When it comes to the graphics, in my opinion, I think we may be near the end of focusing solely on them since you can only get so realistic. I think the more important thing is making a game that has replayability – that is, can be played for hours multiple times and still be enjoyable.
The only question is how long will it be until the backwards compatibility is removed. Just look at the Wii’s now sold on store shelves that don’t play Gamecube games anymore.
Yet that didn’t happen until the end of it’s life.
Besides, if you think about it, people who would buy a wii now, would not buy it to play gamecube games. And if you did want to play gamecube games, by NOW you probably already have either an original model wii, or you have a gamecube. If you have gamecube games, you should have one of those already. (And the wii is pretty durable. I don’t know about you guys but I got my wii at launch and It’s taken quite a bit of abuse, but it still works just fine, so I never had to worry about buying a new one.)

Lots of people would rather have 1 device to play all games, then 2 devices that each only play 1 set of games.
Said older device can be used to trade in for the new device, or put the older device into storage. Not everyone wants to have 10 power strips, 6 RCA/HDMI cables plugged in at the same time.

I Already have a SNES, SEGA, N64, and NES daisy-chained to my TV- I do not want to cram a fuckin gamecube or wii on there when I get my WiiU!
Some people have to trade in their old system in order to afford the new one, and those people like when they can still play their games on the new system.

I’m currently working on metroid prime cuz I never had a gcn and some friend gave me a gcn controller and a memory stick, that makes also, what if you want to play old multiplayer games and new games on. I’ve made thread after thread about this on the 3DS on various fourums. This is why I’m so adamant about digital downloads, no worrying about cartridges in future generations.
backwards compatability needs to be improved for the next generation. excluding the Wii, backwards compatability SUCKED for this generation. the fact that my Xbox 360 can’t play the ONLY Xbox Original game i own is bullshit. what also sucks is that my PS3 can’t play ANY PS2 games! but my Wii can play ALL of my GameCube games, plus the thousands of games on the Virtual Console, the Wii killed the other 2 systems when it came to backwards compatability. though there are ways the Wii U can have better backward compatability before it even starts!
Add GameCube controller support. via an adadpter, because i can’t fathom the thought of Smash Bros. with that tablet!

I purchased a 3DS at launch because I needed a second system to easily trade pokemon with. I could have saved a lot of money and just bought a second DS Lite but the BC was the most important factor in my decision, and since then I’ve purchased four 3DS games and several DSi and Virtual Console titles. In the five years since I bought my DS Lite, it took me half that to own four DS games
Funny, I thought that it was graphics that were more important with fun and backwards compatibility being almost dead last
I hope they can up the resolution for the GameCube games like Dolphin emulator does. It would be awesome to play GameCube games that I never played in Full HD.

I wish the Wii U could play GCN games for two reasons:
a) Paying for a game I already paid for doesn’t appeal to me and
b) all the first party games will be there, but what about the third parties? IMO, the GCN had the best third party support out of any Nintendo console, but I don’t think MGS, Splinter Cell, Hitman, NFS, Burnout, TimeSplitters, James Bond 007 and among many others will be on Wii U VC. They might be, but I personally doubt it.
