Youtube user Joel Furtado has made a stunning Legend of Zelda Wii U trailer to tide us over while we wait for the real Zelda Wii U footage to surface. The trailer uses a similar cell-shaded look that caused plenty of outcry when The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker was released on the Nintendo Gamecube. Do you dig it? Or do you prefer the more realistic approach?
Not a fan of fan made stuff
You didn’t like this? I thought it was awesome. It captured the spirit of Wind Waker, with a grittier art style that actually might suit the Wii U quite nicely. For a trailer made by one guy, you have to give it props.
I love it too, and for everybody saying cartoony Zelda should go on handheld, well… almost everybody loved Wind Waker, which worked especially well on console.
P.S. this was the first thing that came in my head:
Zelda X Rayman Origins
the cel style looks like ww and then the gel style in the cutscences in fire emblem radiant dawn
*Ba Dum Tsss*
I’m not a fan of who say “I’m not a fan…” o.O
But what does Michael Pachter think about this?
I think he said that this new game will not sell well :/ XD
hes too busy playin halo
Lol
KILL MICHAEL PACHTER!! HE DOESN’T NEED TO FIND OUT ABOUT THIS!!
he already have if he go to this site,
THEN I SHALL BLIND HIM IN THE FACE WITH BLEACH AND ACID!! :D
Looks more like something for 3DS than WiiU
Pretty neat. Friend Code is 2878-9589-3646.
I love this but more for the handheld/downloadable console side. I would much rather prefer a realistic approach because that way it feels more like the Zelda series has evolved and matured to a more “Next Gen” level. Skyward Sword, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, etc. All look amazing but I feel its time for Nintendo to take the Twilight Princess feel to the next level. :)
It looks gd but I hope the Zelda for “Wii U” will look waaaaaaaayyyyyyyy better than that
………..(jizz)
i always loved the cartoony zelda
but link looks like he has an enormous penis in the image on top of your website so it kinda killed it for me
now that i have seen i will never unsee :(
Very impressive!!! I’d definitely enjoy playing with those visuals.
Looks like it could be for 3DS, which wouldn’t be bad, or if it were a full downloadable title, that would be cool, but I personally hope that they go with the style from the demo video for the first HD Zelda title.
i prefer the more colorful (Wind Waker and Skyward Sword) Zelda over the dark and edgy all realistic like Twilight Princess.
there’s enough dark games out there you know
simply awesome, no words can describe my feelings *sniff*
This was REALLY good! Although I rather get a Twilight Princess style with more natural eyes, this game would be really nice on the 3DS!
For a one-man job, this is REALLY high quality!
2 thumbs up!
I personally wouldn’t want Zelda Wii U looking like this, as I’m more interested in a photo-realistic Zelda. However, this fan made Zelda Wii U trailer makes me yearn for an animated series for Zelda. Sure, it might be niche, but if done well, it could be very good and entertaining. Even if it was a youtube exclusive miniseries, I’d be all over it.
im probably the only one that wants zelda for wiiu to be realistic not like SS or WW. to me twilight princess wasnt real, it was just themed a bit dark with an anime style. im talking about skyrim -sh, but with more color of course.
I like the cartoonish style more because I hate when they try to make video games look to realistic. It kills the feeling of a fantasy world for me :/
That fellow is exceptionally talented. I hope he’s making a lot of money with those skills somewhere. Whichever direction they go with it, I’ll be happy. I really enjoyed Wind Waker, since the visuals fit the system’s power. I felt that both Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword were half-measures, trying to be more realistic without the power to do it properly (although I also enjoyed those games, especially SS). The WiiU WILL have the power to go all-out on the visuals, so I would be excited to see what they can do with it, but you won’t catch me complaining if they decide to go cel-shaded or what-have-you again.
This was really impressive! but I believe that Zelda series on Home consoles(Wii U) should look realistic and Zelda series on handheld should look cell shade(cartoonish).
amazing this guy rocks, screw all you haters, lets see you do better. thats right you have no talent. trolls
……um…..what haters? Haven’t seen any yet….
awesome animation! it has the very same adventure spirit as the series :)
If it plays well and has a good story, I dont care what it looks like. But if it looks like that, then it would be pretty stunning. He did a good job.
I like the sub title- The Lost Oracle,
Holy Shit.
Well done. That was pretty damn fun to watch!
For a fan made trailer give the guy credit, i thought it was great.
Pretty incredible… However, I would much rather like a style like the Zelda tech demo
Cell shading. Fuck the uber realistic, monochromatic look of newer games. Looking back, I liked the Twilight Princess art direction, the cell shaded efforts are much better.
If that was for the WII U or 3DS would buy hands down
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANT IT NOW!!!!
Nice. This looks more like a movie than a game.
This was a wonderful interpretation of the Wind Waker style, and I’d love to play it.
As far as what I’d like in the future, I’d like Nintendo to continue trying different styles instead of keeping things pidgeon-holed in this whole dual “toon/realistic” approach. While I do believe the first game for Wii U should stick as close to the E3 2011 demo as possible for the purpose of bringing people back, I don’t want Zelda to be visually static going forward. By opening the door with Skyward Sword’s Impressionistic approach, they have a wealth of options at their disposal.
Going into my specific desires, I’d like to see a game where an Expressionist/David Lynch Surrealism style is fully realized. Link’s Awakening was based on Twin Peaks, and Majora’s Mask added this flavor to what was otherwise the OoT look. It’s time for a 3D Zelda to bring the concept into its own.
I think it’s nice, but I don’t think cell shaded style should be used with WiiU, Maybe the 3DS. WiiU should show off it’s Power and make it something like the E3 Demo.
I’m sure it’s a mini series sanctioned by Nintendo for the wii u. Research your shit Ffs.
I think it’s interesting what they have done with the art style in this trailer. I would love to shake the hand of the guy that made this because there is definitely not a lot of fan made material that is as good as this.
Kid link is best link
Well done, I really liked the video. Although I would prefer a realistic Zelda this time around. I think they should cycle styles around.
Interesting that he used Ganon instead of Ganondorf.
I was not a fan of Wind Waker because of the weird characters, but I do like Toon Link more than regular Link. This trailer was stunning. :)
Yeah it’s fine for a fan made trailer. But I think it totally misses the point if he wanted this as a Wii U title. One of the things that the Wii U will offer is better graphics! I don’t think Nintendo would have the balls to do another Wind Waker game on a console. The reaction would be quite negative, in my opinion.
But, of course, that doesn’t change the fact that it’s still really impressive! I’d suggest picking this game for a handheld, like Nintendo 3DS. Oh, also, make it two versions, like OoS/OoA
In the case of Wii U, not unless there’s a second title for the system. When those who are clamoring for “High-Res Twilight Princess” get it or something equivalent to it, I’m sure more people would then be open to a more adventurous style in the follow-up. I’m not specifically saying “another Wind Waker,” but I for one would like to see them continue experimenting once they’ve gotten over the hill, so to speak.
U fags still play zelda smh
skyrim scored high because its good. Pc has always been better. Wii u is 25 years behind pc. Xbox is more closer than ninty trarsh. It must s uck being poor.enjoy dlc while i and friend pirate them haha waste mommy cash
Hey graphics whore… GTFO! This is Nintendo territory! Let’s not forget the fact that Zelda: Skyward Sword have scored a perfect 10!!!!!!!
more like for 3DS
Toon Link is alright and all. . .
But I think a style similar to the Wii U Zelda Demo would be a good way to show off the Wii U’s graphics capabilities.
This was beautiful. I know a lot of people like to hate on the Wind Waker art style, but it’s gorgeous. I really like this.

It looks excellant, but it looks more like a 3DS game than a Wii U game.

although it took me some time to get over the cellshade of windwaker, i enjoyed the game greatly. i think it would be best to keep the cell shade to the gameboy and all its incarnations and the realistic approach on the console system.
however that being said i can not, not acknowledge that by switching out the graphic styles of the game, it gives each Zelda a fresh feel to immerse your self into. It allows the development team more room to create different experiences with in the Hyrule world. so although my preference is “realistic” graphics, i am thankful for the diversity.
I would totally dig a new Legend of Zelda with Toon Link in it, Would rather have it for the 3DS thought but that Wii U controller of Nintendo’s sure could make the game a lot more intersting then what the 3DS touch screen could do with the game..

I’ve always loved the toon links series but something about this game that makes it more of the realistic versions
