Nintendo 3DS Sells Twice As Many Units As Nintendo DS Sold In Its First Year (4.5 Million)

Nintendo of America has revealed via a press release that the Nintendo 3DS has managed to sell twice as many units as the Nintendo DS sold in its first year. The Nintendo 3DS has sold an impressive 4.5 million consoles since it launched in March last year in North America.

“Nintendo 3DS closes its first year with a lengthy list of accomplishments but we’re still just scratching the surface. With a massive lineup of first- and third-party games and more on the way, a budding library of entertainment options and an engaged and growing installed base, Nintendo 3DS has an incredibly bright future. We’re just getting started but this platform is built for the long haul.”

              1. Umm….

The 3DS is 0.02 inchs smaller then the DS lite.

Also the 3DS is 17 grams heavier then the DSI.

The 3DS is way lighter then the original DS.

Also Nintendo has confirmed no plans for a 3DS lite.

                    1. It Doesn’t make any sense a 3ds Lite However it would be to fragile and nintendo always makes their consoles with the capability of taking a beating, for example dropping it, However a 3DS XL I wouldn’t be surprised.

              2. If the 3DS got any smaller, it’d be as small as the GameBoy Color, and that would be stupid. Besides, I think a new 3DS model is WAY too early to be released right now. Give it at least 2 years. If anything, I think Nintendo may go with a larger 3DS model with a bigger screen size. Now that would make sense.

  1. So glad sales have picked up considerably now :D
I’d feel rather cheated if id bought a system which never lifted off and got the support I thought it deserved :P

      1. You mean Microsoft. Sony knew Nintendo would do this thats why PS3 was in it for the long term from the start with it’s bluray and free online. What makes the XBOX stand out now? They’re finished.
