Jonathan Ross Loves Wii U And Says ‘Wii U Is Like The Wii On Steroids’

UK television presenter Jonathan Ross was won over by Wii U at E3 and after spending time with the device at E3 he proclaimed that it was like Wii on steroids. Ross offered praise to Pikmin 3, and also the third-party developers that Nintendo has secured for the console.

“Seeing as Nintendo are paying for my hotel they currently have the lion’s share. Which, conveniently, they have also earned, for at least showing us something if not exactly new, at least different, in their next generation home console, the Nintendo Wii U. It’s not new because they showed it last year as well… they promise that it will be out this year, before Christmas, and you will want one.

“It’s the Wii on steroids – faster processor, better resolution and with delusions of grandeur that has encouraged it to grow a screen on the primary controller that not only serves as a backup, so that you can keep playing if someone else comes in and wants to watch another three days of piss-poor jubilee coverage from the BBC on the main screen, but also adds to the gameplay in some rather fun ways.”

Staying on the subject of Wii U, Ross was most impressed with Pikmin 3, “which looked absolutely gorgeous and introduced a new type of character – the rock-pikmin – and a more immersive, deep-strategy gameplay that seems to benefit from the extra screen”.

He also offered praise to Nintendo for securing Batman: Arkham Asylum, Assassin’s Creed 3, Aliens: Colonial Marines and Mass Effect 3 for Wii U.

  1. I like to hear people had fun with the console. At least he’s smarter than that guy who played the U but didn’t realise it was a new console. Btw, don’t use steroids Wii. It shrinks your balls. Leave luck to heaven.

    1. Says the troll who fails at playing Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge (a Nintendo published title).

  2. I had no idea Jonathan Ross was so into his games. He seems genuinely clued up, something which you don’t really see from mainstream press, particularly in the UK.

Anyway, if it’s good enough for Rossy, it’s good enough for me. Top bloke.

  4. Sickr… could you please edit the last paragraph? It’s not “Batman: Arkham Asylum”… it’s “Batman: Arkham City: Armored Edition”.

  5. Well he does kind of work for/ work with Nintendo after all so it’s not surprising he’d say something positive. He presented there European 3DS conference thingy or whatever it was called.

  6. I don’t like the sound of wii on steroids. he should have used a different analogy to express the awesomeness of wiiu. he makes it sound like it’s still a wii with more power when it’s actually a new beast.
