David Marshall, a Nintendo customer service representative, has announced that a “unified account system will be implemented later this year with the launch of the Wii U,” and the “same account system will be made compatible with Nintendo 3DS systems.” Marshall also revealed that if your Wii U or 3DS is stolen, Nintendo can transfer your account to a new system.
“A unified account system will be implemented later this year with the launch of the Wii U. Eventually this same account system will be made compatible with Nintendo 3DS systems. At this time we have no additional details to offer and nothing to indicate how or if this will work outside the United States and Canada. In the meantime, if the system has a problem, taking it to an Authorized Service Center will maintain the Nintendo eShop account. If the system is stolen, we can transfer the account to a new system once we are provided with a valid police report.”
“Of course, you asked this question because of the upcoming launch of New Super Mario Bros. 2 in retail and digital formats. What you need to know is that the digital format will only be available in the United States and Canada. We have nothing to announce regarding Latin American availability.”
-NoC customer service member, David Marshall

Very cool.
FUCK YOU DONZALOOG
Don’t hate on one of the best fans on this site. Donzaloog is a legend. Leave luck to heaven (Nintendo).
Are you fucking stupid or something? Donzaloog isn’t a fan — he’s just a yes-man. A sycophant. The last time he ever had issue with Nintendo was their E3 conference this year, but other than that, he never says no to Nintendo. Seriously, that was like the one damn time he was truly objective.
Because I’m not a whiny fanboy like you, that means I’m a sycophant? Fail! Try again, troll.
Well, you do seem more tolerant of Nintendo than most, but you’re by no means a sycophant.
You’re a basement dwelling Nintendo-loving virgin, and by the way “Leave Luck to Heaven” isn’t an accurate translation of what Nintendo actually means. Less Wikipedia and more being an open minded gamer rather than a sad brand loyalist for a company who doesn’t care about their fans.
There is no direct to english translation of the word Nintendo. Leave luck to heaven is the closest one. Maybe you should do some proper research before you post so you don’t confirm what people already think of you, that you’re an attention seeking idiot.
This is my last reply to you. I’m not in the habit of feeding trolls.
I specifically made a point that it is not a translation of “Nintendo”. No matter how “close” it is, it’s just one of many translations that ultimately doesn’t sum up the company’s name.
Putting it in the majority of your comments as a signature makes you look like little more than a deluded fanboy who would wipe their rear ends no matter how much they screw the gamers over.
I dont really get how that makes him a yes man? I havent found any reason to be angry at nintendo since the conference, which while it was poor, their entire E3 was good.
Everything after thats been pretty good news (dont say 3DSXL, its just another choice, not a remodel)
This would be amazing and would open up the doors for many other new features. Unified achievements, cross-system save files for the likes of Brawl, NES savestates, etc., and an easy way to connect with the Miiverse.
Looking forward to the Wii U more and more each day!
So, are you saying cloud saves or wireless transfers? But if Nintendo does do this they should do both.
Well seeing as you can sign into your account on any WiiU it would make sense to have a Cloud save feature.
yeah me 2
So what I want to know is, getting it on a new 3DS XL. You just transfer your SD card?
I would do a system transfer.
first you do a system transfer form the old 3DS to the new 3DS XL to get all your prior downloads to your new system, then you take out the old SD card and put it in the new 3DS XL,
good question.. i would like to know about this too. im also getting the 3dsxl =)
At about a new system that doesn’t play 3DS cartridges, will I be able to play my digital super Mario bros 2? Hmm
what do u mean by a new system? is it a new hanheld after the 3ds? if in that case, i think u could since nintendo said that your account can be access in any nintendo system..
you will have to have a 3DS or 3DS XL in order to play Super Mario Bros.2. If the System you are talking about doesn’t play 3DS games then you won’t be able to play it.
He’s talking about the future when there’s a 3DS successor. I’m going to guess that 3DS games will be compatible as there will still be an eShop, similarly to how DSiWare can be purchased on the 3DS.
Oh I see. Yeah I would assume that we would be able to play it on a successor, at least on the next one which could be years from now.
Interesting…
Nintendo is going in the right direction
Woah, what?
Sounds promising, but still quite confusing.
Yeah, they should have done this ages ago, but better late than never. Sending them a valid police report seems like a lot of hassle though.
I’ll make it easier for you. It’s like MobileMe and iCloud.
come to think of it, what if you happen to lose your 3DS ??? I guess then ALL your downloaded games and apps would be gone too.
I know I can re-download my games to a new PSP if I were to lose my current one. I think PSN has a set limit of 5 or 6 re-downloads. That’s plenty.
Hmmm… , Some people might do a false Police report after losing their 3DS in order to recover their digital games.
I only hope Wii U isn’t region locked, but I’ll be fine if it isn’t.
Unlikely, are you hoping so you can buy titles that dont make it out of Japan? . Because, seeing as they’re having a full digital store, they might put the JRPG titles and other games that dont make it out of Japan on there, seeing as they dont have to worry about production and shipping costs
But they’d still have to translate it and possibly provide new voice actors for it. Seems like a lot of work for something that probably isn’t going to sell well
All of the YES!(Ignore what my pic says please)

Analyst and Aeolous can suck it lets see Microsoft and sony do this
Sony. In 2006. Microsoft. In 2010. Not saying it isn’t significant but don’t act like it’s some kind of revolution, people have been doing this for years.
Microsoft did it later than Sony? I’m kind of shocked.
…………..You do realize this is absolutely nothing new right? Tons of companies, video game or not, have been doing this.
But nope “DURR HUR, NINTENDO DOES EVERYTHING FIRST AND SONY AND MICROSOFT ONLY COPY”
u mad bro?
Are you tired of being a newfag, bro?
⑨? whats that? that pic looks very familiar…
I think it would be neat if we could play 3DS games on the Wii U and Wii U games on the 3DS, at least the ones that shouldn’t require high specs like New Super Marios U. I like being able to play the same games on my away from home (or on the couch, away from big TVs, etc.) device, and also to be able to play that same game on a much bigger screen whenever I want. Kind of like Gameboy Advance and Gameboy Player all over again.
I guess the 3DS>Wii U thing would work bu then people would only buy Wii U, 3DS sales would plummet. However, the opposite is impossible, while it may seem simple to port higher graphic games to other consoles, it’s really very complicated and it would be impossible for people to just say “ta-daaaa! Wii U on 3DS!” even if it was games requiring low graphical powers. And there wold be lost sales in games released on both platforms.
If they did that for some games then they would be able to compete with PS3 and PS Vita.
compete? 3DS IS DESTROYING VITA AS IT IS HAHAH!!
I meant the PS Vita and PS3 cross-play.
Sales wouldnt plummet because youd have to have a 3DS anyway to play the game. It could give us the possibility of seeing another Four Swords game, or at least seeing it released on the store
Almost there… but what about if you simply lose your system? Why the need for a police report?
So they have proof you’re not lying, simple.
Some people will lie to get a Police report in order to recover the games. Nintendo should just let you re-download them if you register a new system with them, they could put a limit of say 5 or 6 re-downloads per game like Sony does. It will make people a lot more comfortable buying a lot of digital games.
So what if you are, though? Why not just let people re-download the stuff they bought digitally? If they’re not going to lower the prices, they could at least do that.
And still, that doesn’t help you if you drop it in water or run it over with a car or just lose it. People should have a way to recover their purchases if something were to happen. Outside of filing a police report.
Isn’t there a 3DS update coming that links your eShop account to the internet? I’m sure I heard that going around at the time of the big December update.
well even so, as it stands, it looks like you can’t just go ahead and buy a new system. log into your account and re-download your games again even with this new update coming up.
you need a police report if your 3ds gets stolen hahaha. that’s really funny whoever wrote that.
Erm… Nope… It’s… You know? Insurance? It’s that thing companies have to use so they don’t have to feed heir families on tuppence a week.
I’m pretty sure the average person will not file a police report if they lose their 3ds. get real fool.
I just wish I could download my eshop games on my “new” 3DS’s without the stupid transfer method, that method even has a limit. I know not many people will buy that many 3DS’s but there’s still a limit =/. I’d just like to get a new system, log in, download my games and apps and enjoy it, even if my old one is stolen. now I have to go get a police report and show it to nintendo to get my eshop titles back?… =/..
Nintendo is slowly doing the right thing, and I’m looking forward to it! They just need to do it a little bit better :3 At this rate I still wont feel safe to download my games off of the eShop…
i feel the same.
i wonder how the eshop will work
they could do some cool stuff with it
Awesome, was talking about this earlier hoping id see it
Once again Latin America is not taken into account, shame on NOA for not taking this region seriously.
Regarding th unified account system, I was already specting this. I suppose you create a “Nintendo Account” and then register your 3DS’s code into it, or something similar.
I imagine you’d make the account on the Wii U and be offered a merger in some kind of 3DS software update. And on the Latin America thing, while it would be good to have more support, it’s much more complicated and time consuming to release there. It’s not as simple as “Boom, everyone in Latin America can have a Nintendo Network Account now! La dee dah!”
Once again, Latin America is ignored. I just hate to see that even after so many years, Nintendo hasn’t considered the market in here. There are thousands, if not millions of gamers in here that are loyal to Ninty, despite the fact that we don’t even have eShop (we only can access as US residents… and that sucks). We don’t even have access to Club Nintendo either so we are left out of many offers and prices.
Sony and Microsoft already have their services available here for years now. What’s taking them so long? why are they ignoring us?

FUCK U DANIEL
Hmph! I can tell this is gonna suck badly. See when a company uses hippy words like “Unified” their idea is bound to shit itself
How can you tell an idea is going to “suck badly” based on a single word they used in their statement? There is nothing wrong with the word “Unified.” I dont see where your coming from at all… O.o
Because I. I am a bitch! Now get back to yor life and watch as I control the universe.
wow! best troll ever!
id rather have them use a GPS signal to go find the system and beat the living crap out of the person that stole it
You could buy a mini-tracker and stick it inside your 3DS system yourself, though, if it’s really that much of an issue.
I’ve had my games stolen before, and it’s always a smart idea to know your enemies and make friends with the right people, though, so that the theft has a much lower chance of happening.
sounds cool
This is outstanding news from a rep from Nintendo of Canada! A unified account system for both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS is truly a great idea.
Not ib Latin America?
I’ll just have to do some”tricks” to change my ip address.
hahaha cool
Good news.
But wait, if we would have the same account on the WiiU and 3DS, wouldn’t that mean we’d still keep friend codes as well? FUUUU-
It wouldn’t be tied to the device framework but rather the network framework.
As for the “friend code” on Wii U, based on statements I’ve seen so far it’s more a part of the user’s account (which is a real account w/ a username) and not for player interactions (that being the way Wii games were).
Would you keep playing the 3ds when the wii u come out. The wii u would be so much better.
sure, i doubt i can play the Wii U on the bus to work.
I’ll presume the “friend code” will be used in the transfer.
Pingback: Nintendo confirms Wii U and 3DS to have unified account systems | NintendoGlobe
Frankly I’m not impressed! Why? Because, the Wii U doesn’t shoot directed energy blasts, like the XBOX and PS3 do. When I buy a gaming console, I want it to be able to kill someone so I can protect it. *loads laser Rifle with MicroFusion Cells.*
Get out TROLL.
The account seems cloud-ish.
What exactly do you mean, cloudish?
Would make sense, you can sign into your account on any WiiU, not sure if it has cloud saves or not, thought that would be good
Did he say that the Digital Format of the New Super Mario Bros 2 game would only be available in America and Canada?
You know what would be sweet???….
If you could play 3DS download titles on the Wii U GamePad!!!
(Might lower 3DS sales though)o8y4r3if27hbh kjtbvhjebdr fve =]
or or …….it might raise sales since you might buy a nice 3DS title on the Wii U eshop and then might be like
“o8y4r3if27hbh kjtbvhjebdr fve =] how can I take this on the go?/?!!!”
Must BUY 3DSSSSS…..
This had to be announced? I thought it was confirmed a while ago when they said there were going to be no friend codes, but then later amended with the fact that friend codes would be extremely simple. And I thought it was etched into stone when the announced MiiVerse for 3ds after Wii U launches. So color me not surprised. It’s kinda basic shit. Sorry just don’t think its news-worthy.
It’s over, Nintendo is finished.
It’s over, Blaise is a transexual.
FUUUUUUCK!! I’m from Venezuela !! I guess i have to buy it physical instead.
