      1. A portable Mario with Coop?
Might want to refresh your gaming knowledge. Not quite the expert Aeolus needs. Try asking Batman if he needs a sidekick.

          1. This game needs to be priced at 29.99, 40 bucks is too much money for this game. Especially when compared to sm3dland, the game looks kinda lazy for the amounr of money its originally asking

              1. Id prefer 2d gaming over 3d any day. But clone let’s be honest, it looks good but not great. Quit being an over obsessed fanboy and use reason. 30 bucks is reasonable, 40 isn’t, and newegg obviously thinks so too.

                1. WUT? all im saying is that people think 2d games are garbage, thats it, no fanboyish, nothing.

i have no idea where U got that other information that has nothing to do with what im saying.

    1. PhantomBowser16 (twitter)

You’d have to be a tremendous cynic to call this exactly the same game – not that I’d doubt your ‘abilities’. Nobody’s laughing, Aeolus.

      1. Except for the fact that it IS almost exactly the same game. Watch the GameXplain review of it on YouTube. They show that the title screen music for NSMB 2 is nearly identical to NSMB Wii, it’s just more upbeat. This game was made with lazy in mind.

        1. If it were “The same game” there would be the same levels. This is just “Nintendo caring more about making the gameplay than the plot and title screen.”
          Just play the goddamn game.

          1. But the gameplay hasn’t evolved since the original NSMB.

Which in itself, was a rehash of the very first game.

            1. LOLno.

The Coin Collecting feature gives us more vertical and secret heavy gameplay and level design.

But I guess you’re too stupid to notice that.

              1. Coin collecting gimmick which adds nothing to the experience.

SMB3 was more secret heavy than this map pack. Factoid.

                1. “Coin collecting gimmick which adds nothing to the experience. ”

You keep telling yourself that, moron.

You keep telling yourself how Coin Rush mode “adds nothing new”.

You dumb asses’ problems is that you want OBVIOUS changes, and don’t appriecate what matters.

                  1. But it’s the truth, how does spamming coins add to the experience? How?

Ironically, that makes it all the more casual, since 100 coins is always an extra 1-up.

Coin Rush mode is a rip-off of Rayman Origins.

These changes are as major as CoD MW2 to MW3. As you can tell, they only added a few modes along with a giant map pack. A lot like this.

                2. oh, and is Coop a gimmick too? Seems the gaming industry thrives on it, and Nintendo could use a little more. That is why this game is selling better than you hoped.
                  Sorry about your luck.

                  1. Glorious local co-op with everybody that happens to own a 3DS and this game.

Ought to be fun, and it adds to the experience. Yup, yup.

          1. Oh wait! The level design still looks like bland crap, and the gameplay is EXACTLY the same! And yeah, the music is STILL the same, along with that annoying ass “BAH BAH” every 10 seconds.

            1. “The level design still looks like bland crap, and the gameplay is EXACTLY the same!”

              Yeah, no it isn’t, moron.

In fact, when someone compliments the game, they mention how the level design is one of the best they ever seen in a 2D game for some time.

              1. I’ve read reviews on it and some say it has good level design, but from what I’ve seen that won’t change my mind. Add the fact that a lot of levels from previous NSMB are bland, I don’t see this one changing (lol it isn’t, at all). And the gameplay is still the exact same.

                1. “but from what I’ve seen that won’t change my mind.”

As if you would by the game period.

And oh look, another ‘oh, well I didn’t feel too well about the other games, so this one will suck!’ comment. You’re such a freaking tard.

And no, the gameplay isn’t the exact same.

                  1. The gameplay is the exact same, there is no difference in the platforming here and previous games. No physics changes, no changes made to jumping, this game is such an obvious reskin it’s absolutely staggering to see how badly you’re defending it.

Oh, let’s add our old flight powerup, nobody will notice.

                  1. I seriously don’t see where you’re coming from.

This game is literally a map pack with *once again* the primary SMB3 powerup. Oh, now he has a Golden Fire Flower than can turn blocks and shit into coins. This is a big, innovative change that means a lot to the series.

Great, just keep collecting coins and be proud of your “total” which is shared amongst every save file. HAHA.

                    1. That’s another thing that annoys me, what the fuck do you get for getting 1,000,000 coins? I fucking whopping title screen.

                  2. The game is still running on the exact same engine. Other than porting it to the 3DS and adding the very subtle gimmicks, there was practically any coding and programming involved other than level design.
Listen, I’m a huge Nintendo fan, but I was honestly heavily disappointed to see that Nintendo was releasing two MORE New Super Mario games running the same engine. It sucks how Nintendo has gotten to the point that they can just shit they games out with no effort and still have strong support in doing so.

                    1. Glad to see you’ve seen the light. Spread the word and put a STOP to this rehashing and promote innovation.

              2. These ignorant kids have nothing better to do than waste your time. I commend you on defending Nintendo, but they don’t need it.
If you continue to antagonize them for your own personal satisfaction, then please continue. :)

            2. Hello sir. Would you like a shitty experience on your next new mario game? Then get the new shittier graphics, physics, and music you could expect from Crap Cleaning Mario Platform: Super Bad Edition. It’s just as bad gameplay as Sonic the Hedgehog 06 will make you go crazy over this game. So why don’t you come on down and get a copy today.

Meanwhile at Nintendo… “DON’T MAKE IT SHITTIER, JUST USE THE SAME ENGINE SO PEOPLE WILL BUY IT!”

Basically the moral here is “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
              (points at Sega)

          2. Exactly! Damn idiots, get your hands on it and you’ll have a blast! Can’t judge a game until you’ve played it.

          1. That’s the exact same mentality that shows Nintendo gamers don’t want new games, just lazy MARIO MARIO MARIO. Just keep giving them sales for what is largely the same game and a lazy title. Just keep showing them we don’t want what the fanboys praise them so much for, innovation.

            1. Close, Mario, Zelda, Metroid, MK, RE – we’ve been getting all these for quite some time, but you’re a little slow, so I understand you may only have heard of Mario.

              1. I’m not even sure what you’re talking about. I am talking about NSMB2, which is a complete and total rehash. Don’t bring in other franchises for lack of arguments you don’t have.

            2. Without Mario video games wouldn’t be anything like they are now, Nintendo is practically the father of modern video games!

          2. We’re all entitled to criticize the living hell out of the game too and question your sanity for entertaining Nintendo’s blatant cash grabs.

How interesting the 3D effect here is actually terrible, looks like they didn’t care to make it work properly after their blatant reskin of the first game.

This screams low budget. But that’s smart of Nintendo, seeing how blindly and mindlessly people will keep buying these games, that’s all they have to do.

Fuck quality and evolution of game design; it’s all about the $$$.

            1. Thank the Mobile market. They went cheap first. There’s gotta be competition. Are you actually running Sony? That would explain a lot.

      2. The joke’s on you when you read some of those critic reviews. The majority of them cite the repetition of this franchise.

        1. If by “repetition” you mean “saying that it uses the same graphics and music”, then yes, “repetition”.

Let’s ignore the whole meat of the game, it doesn’t look like it does something new from first glance, therefore it’s the same, derp.

          1. The meat of the game has next to no substantial differences. If you think rearranging blocks, platforms and coin-centric gameplay is a “difference”, then you’re beyond help.

              1. You call it dumb when it’s the bitter truth, I know it hurts playing your new level edited NSMB1 maps as a $40 game.

                1. You keep telling yourself that, troll.

I’m surprised you didn’t make a third account to write this shit yet.

                1. This is the truth. Most definitely the former, since the latter actually felt like they’ve changed the physics ever so slightly.

            1. At least we have a mobile console that sells well.

God damn, sony’s falling apart and their minions are coming out of the woodwork.

The 3DS sells exponentially better than Vita.
The 3DS software sells exponentially better than it’s handheld competitors.

Are you delusional? Ignoring the facts? For an arrogant SOB, you’re pretty damn stupid.

                1. You constantly tell us how sales of hardware don’t matter and how sales of software matter more. We say how they both sell well and BAM that’s not good enough for you.

            2. What the fuck do you want Mario to do! Whip his d*** out and have Peach ride it as a new ability? You kind of people are just plain out retarded.

              1. And that will still be more innovative than the entire NSMB series.

The franchise needs evolution, if Rayman can do it. So can Mario.

        2. I’m actually glad this game is getting knocked down by reviewers. It has below an 80 on Metacritic, a first for a main Mario am I correct?

            1. Super Mario Sunshine has a fucking 92 on Metacritic, even though it deserves better.

And I don’t know what you’re “lol”ing at. Metacritic is a huge review score aggregate site.

              1. Again, lolMetacritic.

That site has a biased view on scores. And no, it’s not because of the score they gave this game, their score selections pretty shitty period.

                1. “That site has a biased view on scores”

“their score selections pretty shitty period.”

                  Lol, contradicting yourself much?

            1. In sales, so you only care about the sales and not quality of software they’re selling to you?

I think you’re Reggie on a troll account.

              1. Do you really think Nintendo would be mopping the floor in sales if it were not quality software?
Wow, now you’ve evolved into insulting hundreds of thousands of people.
                Congrats?
                *slow clap*

                1. So you think Wii Fit is quality GAMING software?

People are mindlessly buying their software and you know it.

                  1. Fuck you. I’ve used the Wii Fit every day for 3 years. (Ok, I missed a few days) Hell yeah it’s quality. I’m currently using it to gain mobility in my shoulder after an injury.
Yes. And I bought Wii Fit Plus, I enjoy it, and I will buy Wii Fit U, and so will many others that use it.

          1. That’s a good sign. The reviewers are slowly waking up. I hope it dips even below that for everyone to realize the giant scams Nintendo is pulling on their userbase.

            1. So, we, the fans, demand and buy a product, and you feel depressed your gaming company isn’t successful, so you have to spend your time here?

Are you not paying attention? Critics can give the game whatever rating they want. Analysts can say what they want. Nintendo sells hardware and software today, and will continue to sell tomorrow.
Sorry if that makes your life miserable.
Why are you here when we don’t care what you have to say?
We Fanboys get pissy, then go buy our games anyway. You’re simply so bored you have to be an asshole on a Nintendo post, letting us know we can get a discount? Really? That’s all you have to do today?

              1. “We, the fans”? I don’t recall fans asking for two NSMB games in one year; I recall them asking for a real 3D adventure like 64, Sunshine, Galaxy 1/2, etc.

But you have revealed yourself to be a fanboy, therefore I don’t see the point in even entertaining you. You’ll buy anything they shove down your mouth. They can release a system made out of cardboard and claim it will play Mario and you’ll still buy it.

                  1. SALES, SALES, SALES.

Nothing else matters, just the SALES.

Sales will help my gaming experience be new and completely innovative!

                    Sales help freshen the experience!

Rayman Origins sold poorly, therefore IT SUCKS!

                    -Your logic.

                    1. Developers can’t develop games if they do not make games people will buy. #Fact. Why do you think so many developers are struggling? Try again.

                    2. Your logic is to Criticize. I never criticized a game for doing poorly, you did that on your own. I’m just telling you that what you think people want, and what they really want are 2 different things. This is why Sony is failing. They think like you.

                    3. You are the living stereotype of a Nintendo fanboy, Jaded.

That’s my only explanation for you here, nothing serious needs to be said. You’re beyond needing help.

        3. The Jokes on you when you look at Sales figures and see that Critics aside, we actually like having a mobile Mario Game that we can coop with friends.

            1. But he’s right, Mario isn’t a game that you can dramaticaly change each time like other big titles. Unfortunatly the Mario Franchise is like CoD, you can’t update much more than the weapons and maps.

And if Nintendo changed too much it wouldn’t be the classic Mario we know and love, it’s be a whole new seires that people would resent for it being too different!

    2. …what do you expect them to change, exactly? There’s not a whole lot you can do with a 2d platformer on the 3DS that hasn’t already been done elsewhere.

I’ll admit that I don’t plan on buying this, mostly because of NSMBU. Keep in mind that the team who made it is completely new to making the Mario series, so it would only be natural for the producers to say, “stick to the formula, we want you to learn how Mario works, so in the future you know what ideas will and won’t work.” rather than, “Go crazy with the ideas, guys! Screw whatever makes it great, everything must be NEW, NEW, NEW!”

  1. Anyone know how Newegg is with release-day shipping? I want to order this, but I wouldn’t mind spending $10 extra in a store if there is a chance It may not get here release day.

      1. Actually, it is 3 day shipping for free. But you could get day one shipping for about $12. Which is slightly cheaper than buying it from a retailer due to taxes and whatnot.

  2. Last time I checked, which was yesterday, the code applies to all games that are $40 or more, but only one game per order, so it is a bit tedious if you want to save on a couple games. And with free 3 day shipping, it is probably a good idea to stock up on all titles you want without a pre-order bonus specific to a retailer.

    1. Those aren’t necessary. We are giving you another New Super Mario Bros™ and you’ll find it to be far better than those games!

Wait for our latest remixes of the in-game music and see for yourself!

  3. This game was only made to improve the 3DS XL sales. Why else you think this game is a NSMBWII/DS for the 3DS and the fact the it has the same release date as th 3DS XL. It makes sense to me.

      1. Because launching hardware without software is smart.
        *facepalm*
Guess no one was paying attention to the 3DS initial launch and Vita’s current state of affairs?
Come on guys, gotta be smarter if you’re going to Troll today.

          1. My Tag name is “jadednintendo”- That’s because when the 3DS came out, I bitched more about it than you and Robin combined. Nintendo’s President took a pay cut. They dropped the system price. They gave me games I wanted from the original NES free, and they finally got the hardware working properly.
Sony has done none of these. Go bitch at them for a while.

            1. Sony doesn’t need to, as they’re not going to apologize for you being an early adopter sucker.

Lol, people thinking 3DS would have stayed at that price for long.

  4. I’ve bantered with the jokers, “DigDug” and “Aeolus” long enough. I’ve proven to myself they are as ignorant as they appeared to me.
Judging people for what THEY think is Quality.
Judging people for buying what we find entertaining.
Judging people for being mindless drones just because they won’t give their cash to a company with Hardware and Software we don’t care for. (sony.)

If I have the energy, I’ll re-engage these fuckers a few threads from now.

    1. I’ve also seen DigDugDiglett in some NSMB2 videos as well. Sigh, he pretty much contributes nothing to any of the videos and just tries to lure people into an argument. People these days, trying to have a condescending attitude and think most of the time they’re right about something that’s negative. .-.

      1. Who am I luring into arguments on YouTube? Please, quote one of my comments that started an argument.

      2. And what am I supposed to contribute to the videos. I don’t understand. The comment section is there for a reason, to give opinions, and that’s what I do.

    2. You’ve proved nothing but, herpaderp, SALES SALES SALES.

I’m not judging anyone, I never brought you or anyone down because they thought this game looks like a quality title. Please quote me insulting anybody, please, I’m waiting.

I’m just ranting on this game, and I don’t honestly see how you can possibly defend a rehash of a game to your fullest extent. I don’t see how you’re ignoring the fact that this series is a cash cow for Nintendo.

  5. I was just gonna wait for NSMBU, but I think I’ll grab it if it’s only 30 bucks. I admit it’s nothing too new or innovative, but it’ll give me something new to play on me 3DS while I wait for the holidays.

  6. Some Guy on the Internet

I’ve been wondering for a while now. If Nintendo is the not the way to go, what does Aeolus(es) and the people who have similar views see as the absolute solution to gaming?

    1. That’s stupid, why should quality 3DS games (Not saying NSMB2 is) be dramatically cheaper than quality Xbox, Playstaion or Wii games.
Just because they’re handheld games doesn’t mean they should be super cheap, they’re not iPhone apps.

Look at Kingdom Hearts 3D, a lot of people have been saying that it looks and plays just like the main series games. It’s a quality game on the 3DS therefore it should be a fair price. One that pays it’s developers for their hard work!
Without money from profit there’d be no new games at all!

  7. I hate how blind fanboys despise cod games so much and yet nsmb games do the exact same thing!!! I dont understand!!

  8. Pingback: New Super Mario Bros. 2 available for pre-order at $29.99 USD « UndergrounDuelists

  9. Dang it so I preordered mine on GameStop so I could get the Mario PIN… But it can only be online so I have to pay like 45 for shipping and handling but dang this offer is better just that I don’t get the pin :(… What should I do?? Should I cancel the GameStop one and get this offer instead??? But then again it’s only $10 more.. What to do?

  10. Thanks for posting this article Sickr; I placed my order yesterday. I was on the fence about this one for awhile, mostly because the preorder bonus item sucked (gold pin). $10.00 discount is MUCH better at convincing me though.
