Masahiro Sakurai, the director of the Super Smash Bros series, revealed at the CEDEC developer conference this week that the next Smash Bros game for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS will feature lots of new and exciting moves for existing characters. Sakurai also mentioned earlier this week that the game will have a bunch of new characters.
Oh yes ! Sakurai is working on this game while I work on 200 Mario games for next year ! And sakurai told me he is adding in some GAY moves like link wanking his sword which wil enhance gameplay , that is all Nintendrones ;) Bye.

If it is the same game for 3ds and wii u, I am concerned there may be less moves, because there are less buttons on the 3ds. Maybe new moves but different gameplay… I don’t know about you but I would love a ssb64 remake with online capability for 3ds and new ssbu

Believe it or not, Smash Bros. itself is not a genre. It’s of a genre which was completely dominated by Smash Bros. as soon as it was released, making all other games in the genre look like crap. Yes, Sony is copying it in the fact that they have a load of their own characters in it, and they probably got the idea from Smash Bros, but the genre itself isn’t smash bros.

If Brawl is anything to go by, how Sakurai defines uniqueness is not how almost anyone thinks of it. He probably thinks of unique play styles/what they can bring that no one else can bring for uniqueness, not always unique potential move sets..

Maybe fox and falco in melee had the same animations, but they were hardly clones. Do you even know what a clone is? an exact 100% 1:1 genetic duplicate. Falco was heavier, hit harder, was slower, his recovery moves didn’t go as far. This changes his entire game and the same goes for all the other ‘clones’.
At most they were cousins or siblings.
The reason for their existence is that because the values for jump height/ attack strength/ etc are easily changed, and animation data is easily recycled. It allows them to make different alterations to the same character structure. It allows for greater variety and takes only a fraction of the time as making a character from scratch.

They are considered “clones” because of the copy of the move sets. Ganondorf is called a “clone” of Captain Falcon as he does not have any original moves. It’s not a 100% clone (which there isn’t any), it’s in reference to a lazy copy and paste of the same move set. Sure Ganondorf moves slower, hits harder, but it was the fact that he has the identical set of moves as Falcon which names him a clone. It also applies to many other characters including Fox/Falco, Mario/Dr Mario, Picachu/Pichu, Marth/Roy and probably others that I can’t think of right now.
They play differently as you say, but they are called clones due to unoriginal moves. It’d be like if Sub-Zero had the same move set as Scorpian, just that his moves were faster/slower.

More =/= better. Brawl had a few characters that felt like they were kinda clinging on unwanted. I’ll say it a thousand times, clone characters need to go, and if this means a drop in the roster, so be it. A more balanced roster might mean a smaller one.
Did you not read the article? They’re modifying moves on current characters, which pretty much says that there wont be any clones this time around.
Then be prepared for disappointment. I guarantee you that there will be semi-clones in this game. Granted, some might become unique entirely and we may not have anymore full clones since Sakurai seem to like to lugify semi-clones, but we won’t be seeing a roster in which all characters are completely unique anytime soon.

Betting a ton of money that we get at least 44 characters (transformations included). Sakurai will continue to put emphasis on character additions and I doubt he’s going to cut a ton of characters.

How about Hades as a character, they would have to decrease his size down but he could be awesome as he can shoot lasers from all over his body and he is shown to have good speed from the part in Uprising where he chases after Pit in the final battle.

There won’t be any DLC for characters, barring unfinished characters. Sakurai is the kind of guy that likes to finish stuff and move on to other projects and Smash 4, as big as it is, will be no exception. I understand why there won’t be any character/stage DLC, but it still disappoints me nonetheless.

Same. He’s shown to make projectiles in OoT, but he doesn’t get one in Brawl, and he’s shown using Katanas and Broadswords, but he never gets to use one. I really hope they make him and the other Zelda veterans better, since they all suck. Samus should also change, I don’t think her moveset reflects her games very well.

Make sonic’s final smash a little slower. I can barely use it cuz its too fast and cpu’s always spam and get me first! Speaking of cpu’s half the time, they are all double teaming at me. They barely hurt eachother.
The cpu’s were designed to do that, it can be frustrating. If you go into a free for all thinking ‘the cpu’s are on the same team’, you’ll do better.

This article only specified existing characters – and a lot of existing characters from Melee kept the same moveset on Brawl. Plus, we would only expect a few changed moves, not ‘lots of new moves’.

first things first: I use Zelda alot because is one of the best characters with the best moves. I suppose when they talk about new moves, they might have change their looks as well, just like I believe is going to happen with zelda and link (twilight princess version in brawl, skyward sword or ocarina of time 3D version in Wii U or 3DS).
I am afraid that Sakurai make them very different but I’ll trust him since he always do a good job.

Here’s something to think about; unless they plan to support the Wiimote Plus + Nunchaku for the game[which I doubt, seeing as very few actually used it], the only controllers being supported will be the original Classic controller, the Classic Pro, and the Wii U game pad.
ALL OF THESE HAVE FOUR SHOULDER BUTTONS, compared to the Gamecube pad, which only had a single Z button on the upper right and two normal shoulder triggers.
They COULD just make that single extra button have the same function as its partner……
Or, they could map unique functions to each of the four shoulder buttons, and let us change what does what……
Z would obviously be for grabbing, and a shoulder button, either L or R, would be for shielding, by default, obviously, so if they decided to allow mappable controls, I wonder what they would assign the extra two buttons to allow us to do……
The mind boggles at the possibilities.
Now as to the characters[if you’ve seen my former posts then you likely know who I’m gonna talk about], just don’t give Link any nerfed moves, Nintendo.
For the love of God, I beg of you, no more nerfed attacks, normal or special.
You nerfed his spin attack, bombs, and boomerang in Brawl, on top of giving him an incredibly bad recovery capability, and it took fan mods to fix him.

As long as the characters are balanced (IE, worst character having a chance to win against the best character) it’s all good. I really can’t wait to see legitimate information (images, trailer, gameplays) about SSB4…I’m at least hoping it will be awesome enough to convince me to buy the Wii U.

I hope Lloyd Irving from Tales of Symphonia is in the game. It was one of the best games for the GameCube.
They should make character “transformations” into separate characters, and then add more characters for a total of 50. Then they should add plenty of new moves now that they have a good controller for it. 3DS controls might limit that, unfortunately.
Bing Bang Bop!!! Yeah, Zero Suit Samus should be a character to chose from in the selection screen. Also, Samus should be able to switch between Suit form and Zero Suit form like Zelda and Sheik. They both should have separate final smashes and you shouldn’t be forced to be both of them in a match. < This should also go for Pokemon Trainer as well. Yes. You should only be able to choose one for a match. No “transforming” at all. It only makes it unfair and confusing. And forcing you to change in to Zero Suit Samus almost makes some people hate Samus altogether, even if they like her in suit form.

That’s interesting. Maybe mario will make use of the new powers he got in super mario galaxy 2, while peach makes use of the powers she obtained from the vibe sceptor. Link gains the ability to trans into a wolf and use his wolf powers while pikachu can make use of iron tail or volt tackle. I can only wonder what abilities and movesets they’ll have now
